Perched on a rocky hillside above Vence where the Alpes-Maritimes fold down toward the Côte d'Azur, a cluster of white-rendered buildings with terracotta roofs spreads across terraced olive groves on the site of a Roman villa — and later a Knights Templar commandery — that gives Château Saint-Martin & Spa its particular weight of place. The main building, constructed in the early twentieth century and extended over subsequent decades, carries the massing of a Provençal bastide, its arched loggias and wrought-iron balustrades stepping down the hillside in a rhythm that belongs more to the village above than to any grand hotel tradition. The interiors work in the register of a confident private house rather than institutional luxury. Rooms are dressed in warm sand and stone plaster tones, with blue-and-white toile curtains hung on brass poles, Louis XVI-style writing desks, and loose-covered armchairs grouped around low burr-walnut tables. Barrel-vaulted ceilings in some suites reinforce the architectural character of the original fabric. On the restaurant terrace — stone-columned, shaded by retractable white awnings, its tables set with cream linen and terracotta pots of young olive trees — the view sweeps west across the coastal hills toward the Esterel. The pool terrace, screened by pine and cypress, maintains a similar restraint: pale limestone paving, teak loungers, white parasols, the geometry uncomplicated.

Or, occasionally, the distant splash of laughter from the outdoor pool. Alternatively, picture yourself on the terrace of one of our six private villas. The view, like many a guest, stretches gently into the warm waters of the French Riviera. Either image induces endless relaxation and there, you have the allure of our hotel. It is, quite possibly, the most peaceful and tranquil corner of France. Fine dining is close to all French hearts and menus present only the finest local produce and world class culinary expertise. "We visited the hotel to celebrate a birthday and were delighted with every aspect of our stay. From the moment we arrived at this beautiful property (in a tiny rental car) we were made to feel entirely special. Staff were welcoming, efficient and charming. We had been upgraded to a room with superb views over the hills. We enjoyed the beautiful pool area, the spa and enjoyed the chef’s tasting menu for dinner. The breakfast buffet was excellent. Staff were extremely obliging - helping us with walking routes and providing details and samples of the jam we had enjoyed at breakfast. We have stayed at many good hotels all over the world, but what impressed us particularly about Chateau Saint Martin was the service. We would 100% recommend the hotel to friends looking for an indulgent break in a beautiful setting. Thank you for a superb stay."

"Beautiful establishment with wonderful service and accommodations Our junior suite had stunning views with terrace. Staff is superb! Dining options were all wonderful-morning breakfast buffet and staff top notch! Beautiful pool with attentive team to provide service and food/drink options in beautiful Setting. The Rossini bar is a wonderful escape! The bartenders and staff welcoming and always eager to please."

"It is the most lovely location and the place could not be more welcoming. The staff go out of their way to make your stay memorable. In particular, Diego, who was looking after us on our last dinner on the terrace. He was amazingly attentive and listened to what we wanted. He got the kitchen to prepare a wonderful sharing dinner. Diego helped to make it a memorable family evening."
