PB hotel design editorial

Gathered around a medieval campanile on the upper slopes of the Mont Ventoux foothills, a cluster of honey-toned stone houses, a former presbytery, and a sixteenth-century château have been woven together into Hôtel Crillon le Brave — one of the Luberon's most distinctive small hotels, and one that has resisted every temptation to announce itself as anything other than a Provençal village that happens to offer beds. The property spreads across several interconnected buildings in the village of Crillon-le-Brave, with 32 rooms and suites distributed through structures whose rough-cut limestone walls and Roman-tile roofs predate the hotel by several centuries. The interiors, refreshed under the direction of the Beaumarly group following their acquisition of the property, work carefully within the stone envelope rather than against it. Terracotta-tiled floors anchor suites furnished with rust-linen chaise longues, block-printed cushions in sage and ochre, and aged ceramic vessels that feel gathered rather than sourced. Painted half-height panelling in grey-green grounds the rooms without flattening their irregularity, while upstairs rooms open French casements directly onto the valley and the pale mass of Ventoux beyond. Outside, the terraced pool garden — cypress columns rising above ivy-covered stone walls, teak loungers arranged along limestone paving — carries the disciplined informality of a Provençal mas that has simply been very well looked after.

"the most wonderful moments ....we had stayed here years ago and were hoping things had not changed too dramatically....they had not! yes, totally "enlivened" with beautiful rooms...spacious....views onto the countryside...the best shower ever!...inviting sitting areas...patio with a view that grabs the eye and doesn't let go...things had changed, but for the most in a good way...and the beauty of the hotel remained...the dining area open and just beautiful in the evening...food very good....staff helpful, considerate and professional....the area is perfect for daily exploration and to return to Crillon is simply heaven. Thank you all for such a lovely stay with memories!"

"I reviewed the restaurant on 7th Sept and left a very unfavorable review. I checked a day or two later to see if any comments had been left by the management and nothing had been added. I’m surprised to see my review has since been removed. Is this how the restaurant deals with poor reviews. Shame!"

"Lovely hotel albeit somewhat isolated. A place to go for a couple nights rather than a longer stay. Food excellent albeit breakfast poorly managed. Pool great but too few loungers. Great gym."

"My husband and I had a fantastic stay at this hotel in May during our 16-day trip through France. Our only regret is that we didn’t stay longer than two nights! When we booked, the only room type available was a Prestige Room. I was initially concerned it might face the road and be noisy, based on some reviews I’d read beforehand. To our surprise, our room overlooked the hotel’s central courtyard (which was beautiful), but even the street-facing side of the hotel seemed very quiet. The room itself was spacious, with a comfortable King-sized bed, a cozy seating area with couch, and a large bathroom. The shower was especially memorable—enormous, with two separate showerheads spaced about three feet apart. You could fit about 6 people in the shower (we didn't :-) )! A unique feature was a small window in the shower that looked out over the vineyards. We were high enough up to enjoy the view without worrying about privacy. It was a charming and unexpected touch. Housekeeping kept the room spotless, and we appreciated the welcome treat we received in celebration of our anniversary—it was a thoughtful gesture. We arrived to the hotel fairly early and our room wasn’t ready. We were hungry and went to the restaurant to eat. However, employees were clearing away the food, as breakfast was about over, but we were still given some small pastry to snack on and they kindly didn’t charge us, which we really appreciated. The hotel is located in a small, peaceful village with just a few homes and an old church—it’s wonderfully quiet. Yet it’s also well-situated for exploring the surrounding region. The concierge gave us excellent recommendations for day trips, and we were able to visit about 10 different towns in just two days. Out of the seven hotels we stayed at during our trip, this was easily one of our favorites. We can’t wait to return someday!"
