PB hotel design editorial

A Haussmann-era limestone facade on one of Rennes' most historically charged streets, steps from the Parliament of Brittany, provides Balthazar Hotel & Spa with a grounding that most purpose-built boutique hotels spend fortunes trying to manufacture. The building's classical bones — arched windows at the piano nobile, wrought-iron balconies, a stone base giving way to rendered upper floors — have been retained with precision, the street presence updated only through black-framed glazing at ground level and the restrained banner signage visible in the facade image. The MGallery collection property delivers 55 rooms across four floors, with the interiors calibrated to sit comfortably between the building's nineteenth-century formality and a recognizably contemporary French sensibility. Inside, the guest rooms carry boiserie-panelled walls painted out in pale grey-white, dark upholstered headboards, and pendants with a quietly Scandinavian profile — the effect closer to a considered private apartment than a hotel room. Blush linen throws and woven rope terrace furniture appear in the upper-floor suites, which open onto planted outdoor decks. The courtyard garden, framed by a full-height steel-and-glass wall, uses moss ground cover and tall cylindrical glass torchères to give the outdoor dining space an atmosphere quite distinct from the interior register — more organic, lit warmly against Rennes' Atlantic dusk. The restaurant runs to deep green velvet seating, oak flooring, and directional task lighting, a dining room that treats the hotel guest and the Rennais equally seriously.

Balthazar Hôtel & Spa Rennes - MGallery Reviews

"Book this hotel because we plan an early trip to Mont Saint-Michel the next day. It’s an artistic property with great taste and a welcoming atmosphere. I booked a Superior room and was pleasantly surprised to find a balcony included. The spa is a little small—there were four couples in the same session when we went, so it felt quite crowded. Ideally, it would be better if they limited sessions to around six people. If you book directly with Accor, you’ll also receive a free drink. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant as well. I was very happy with the vegetarian option, but my husband’s beef was overcooked. Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay."

"Great hotel.but on check in they ask for a card to block off 100 euros per person. You can can use amex for the room ,you can use amex in the bar. But.no amex for blocking off 100 euros at check in,why? We have never come across this before anywhere in the world let alone a five star hotel. It's a a sharp practice and before booking people should be aware of this. Not good at all."
