PB hotel design editorial

A 1950s Modernist building pressed against the red porphyry coastline between Saint-Raphaël and Agay, where the Estérel massif drops into the Mediterranean, gave the Beaumier group an extraordinary starting point when they transformed it into Les Roches Rouges in 2019. The whitewashed rectilinear volumes — flat roofs, deep terraces, horizontal brise-soleil rhythms — carry the feeling of postwar Côte d'Azur rationalism, the kind of architecture that understood the Mediterranean light as a building material in itself. Paris-based studio Caon & Caon handled the interior renovation, working with a palette that draws warmth from the landscape rather than imposing on it: natural linen curtains, sisal rugs, solid-wood trestle tables, and the vintage Butterfly chairs in tan leather that appear on almost every terrace. The 38 rooms divide between cliff-facing and sea-facing orientations, the best suites opening directly over the water through white-railed balconies with the Île d'Or visible on the horizon. Inside, bathrooms tiled in warm ochre-amber ceramic play against the otherwise all-white shell, while pendant lights — a layered rattan dome in one room, a Verner Panton Moon lamp in another — introduce distinct personalities without fragmenting the overall register. The restaurant continues this approach through a coffered ceiling lined in natural woven matting, terracotta flagstone floors, and banquette seating in burlap with fine red piping. Every material choice defers to the geology outside: the red rock that names the place sets the entire tonal conversation.

"Les Roches Rouges is not just a hotel. If you are looking for a perfect escape from routine and relax - you must be here. Special “thank you” to Lea and the team who made our stay superb. They took our doubts and cover with comfort and joy. We spent 2 incredible nights there and enjoyed each moment. The room with amazing view and comfortable bed, bath tube, balcony are 10/10. Breakfast variety is great. Pools with sunbeds are 10/10. Meet sunrises and sunsets. I can continue but just try it out. Highly recommend and already plan next stay there."

"Absolutely perfect holiday. We treated ourselves to a Junior Suite with Sea view on the second level in the original building for three nights. Excellent views of both the property and coastline. We enjoyed the best rates as we arrived at the end of the season, on a Monday. The careful attention to landscaping, the aromatherapy of selected plants species, and flow of communal areas is to be commended. For those who crave a secluded, quiet place with healthy food and plenty of exercise options, this place offers it all. Excursions are easily arranged with private drivers. Be sure to bring sun hats, sunscreen, sunglasses, etc as they are not provided at the hotel, other than baseball hats. Paddle boards, kyaks, snorkelling equipment and innertubes are all provided for water sports. Impeccably clean hotel with attentive staff. It is a wonderful thing to see other guests enjoying the pools, the view, and each other. Heaven."
