PB hotel design editorial

Tucked into terraced gardens above Ramatuelle, where parasol pines push through the scrubland a few kilometres inland from the Plage de Pampelonne, a low-slung Provençal mas was transformed into Muse Saint-Tropez — a property that has consistently resisted the maximalist impulses of its Riviera neighbours. The architecture keeps close to the earth: warm ochre render, dry-stone retaining walls, and flat-roofed pavilions arranged around a limestone-paved pool terrace dressed with dark-framed pergolas, linen curtains, and white sunloungers that stop well short of ostentation. The interiors carry the same restraint indoors. Rooms are built around a palette of raw linen, chalk-white plaster, and pale limestone tile underfoot — surfaces that absorb the Var light rather than reflecting it back. Repeated throughout is a signature arched aperture framing garden views and private plunge pools, a Provençal vernacular gesture given a contemporary tightness that keeps the effect close to sculpture rather than pastiche. The restaurant pavilion folds back its glass walls entirely to merge with the pool deck, its striped rope-woven chairs and turquoise accents introducing just enough colour to read against the all-white table linen. With only 16 suites spread across the grounds, the property maintains a density closer to a private villa compound than a conventional hotel, which is precisely the quality that makes it compelling on an otherwise crowded stretch of the Var coastline.

About

MUSE Saint Tropez is a rare sanctuary situated along Route des Marres, minutes away from Place des Lices, one of the most elegant epicentre in the world. Perched atop a little bluff in Ramatuelle, the boutique hotel is surrounded by a rambling three-acre garden filled with local flora. The chic retreat reflects architectural simplicity with its pure lines coupled by a meandering water source that refreshes beautiful terraced gardens, weaving around a stylish bar and a charming mill inspired reception area. Its fourteen luxuriously appointed suites lie nestled around the enchanting garden, each dedicated to famous muses and characteristically individual in decor and ambience, opening onto a private garden, terrace and plunge pool in selected suites. Precision and richness of exceptional materials, MUSE Saint-Tropez stamps its unique signature on the Tropezian landscape.

Muse Saint-Tropez Reviews

"We stayed at The Muse from 26–29 August and were told breakfast was included, but at checkout we were given a huge bill for basic items like eggs, which was never mentioned. Every day our breakfast orders were wrong due to the staff’s poor translation/English skills. Also the gym is just a tiny room with no proper equipment."

"Stunning hotel. Great service and friendly staff. Superb shuttle service into town and to beach clubs which is a huge benefit. Very comfortable rooms and fantastic food onsite. Small boutique hotel ideally located between old town and beach clubs. Quiet hotel so wouldn’t suit everyone but for those looking for peace and luxury it’s ideal."

"I’d have loved to have rated this a 5 as it’s stunning and the room was gorgeous with its own garden and plunge pool. Water and a free soft drinks included in the room and some welcome nibbles on arrival. There’s a free shuttle bus to take you into St Tropez as it’s quite a distance. The hotel grounds are stunning and it’s very serene. Pool and bar area is also lovely although I think the pool filter wasn’t working that well as there were loads of leaves and insects in the pool. There’s a small fitness room which is good too. The restaurant is expensive but the food is good, just don’t start eating late as service is way too slow, which brings me to the reason I’ve given it 4 not 5 stars. Breakfast is a huge disappointment and actually stressful as it’s so slow. A continental breakfast is included but anything else is extra - not a huge choice but for example you’ll be paying €10 euros for a couple of small pancakes! All they need to do is just put all the continue metal food out on the buffet and we could help ourselves. My husband had an omelette (€11) which took 30 minutes to arrive and wasn’t nice. It’s a small hotel so it baffles me why it took so long. The final day of our stay we took breakfast in our room as we thought it would be quicker but it wasn’t as half the food didn’t arrive so we had to wait for the remaining food to come. This marred the otherwise lovely experience staying here. I hope that they do alter the breakfast to make it a less stressful and better value for money experience."
