PB hotel design editorial

Strung across the lagoon of French Polynesia's most mythologised island, the overwater bungalow format that Conrad Bora Bora Nui perfected across its 114 villas represents the archetype against which almost every Pacific resort is now measured. Spread across a private peninsula on the calmer western shore, the property deploys thatched pandanus rooflines and dark-stained timber structures across both the lagoon and the beachfront, the aerial view revealing a branching geometry of boardwalks that connects the individual pavilions without ever suggesting a corridor. Inside, two distinct interior languages operate in parallel. The premium overwater villas lean into a contemporary Pacific register — deeply grained hardwood panelling wrapping walls and pitched ceilings, dark-framed platform beds with live-edge side tables, sliding glass walls erasing the boundary between the room and private deck. The lagoon-facing standard bungalows take a softer approach: canopied four-poster beds dressed in white linen, exposed roof trusses in a warm honey timber, driftwood lamps beside whitewashed side tables that carry more of a resort-casual sensibility. The main restaurant, visible in the images, expresses the full ambition of the public architecture — a soaring double-height space framed by deep mahogany post-and-beam structure, the trusses left entirely exposed, floor-to-ceiling glazed panels folding back to dissolve the dining room into the lagoon at sunset. Against the turquoise of Bora Bora's reef-sheltered water, the geometry holds its own.

"This is going to be one of the most difficult reviews I have ever done. Why, you might ask? The reason is there is much to like and much to dislike about my stay here. A perfect example is with my contact prior to staying. They were great about contacting us, but despite me including my confirmation numbers, they had our arrival date wrong. The lei greeting at the airport was great as was the boat ride to the Conrad. The views are incredible. Sweet Sophie with her adorable Scottish accent was our personal concierge. She was great and very attentive. We then met Ricky (Not Ricky Bobby but Ricky). He is a treasure. A very common thread is the very sweet, kind, helpful people here. I did not encounter a single bad apple. The views of Bora Bora and the sunrises and sunsets from here cannot be beat. The food while very expensive (e.g. $10.50 for a bottle of water) is excellent. We really enjoyed our breakfast each day. The Strawberry Granita is the best breakfast drink I have ever had anywhere in the world. The omelets and French toast are superb. Coffee drinks are included with breakfast. Every evening meal including the Polynesian buffet was delicious with fantastic service. Now I have to address the facility itself. I had already heard that construction delays had happened here and tried to cancel my stay planning to return another time. Hilton would not allow the cancellation. Our initial bungalow was spacious and beautiful, but there were issues. 1. The floor was quite dirty. 2. There was no conditioner. 3. The bicycle seat was pointed upward (not good for an older man in particular). 4. We could not cast to the tv, and the tv had no streaming apps. 5. The curtain was not on the rod properly. 6. Worst of all there was loud construction noise and an unsightly crane. 7. The stores and one restaurant were all closed due to construction. 8. Having come from the Hilton Tahiti and its perfect landscaping we immediately noted the numerous bare areas in the grass and the missing tiles in the walkway. I met with Skyano the manager and shared my concerns. To his credit he listened and tried to fix everything he could. We were moved to a new bungalow. It was very nice, but we lost our view of the sunrise and mountain. We also gained a 24/7 clicking noise that we heard everytime we went out on the deck. The tv here did not cast and had no apps as well. Given the amount of rain and that most channels are French the ability to stream would have been great. The bicycle would not roll without great effort. We also had a strong sewage smell from yesterday afternoon until this morning. They have the thermostat set so that only a mechanic can lower it below 71 degrees. That is inconvenient, because I and my daughter have conditions where we need the temperature low at night. So you might ask why do I still highly recommend the Conrad Bora Bora Nui after all of these problems? There are 3 reasons. 1. The people are incredible. Sky and the whole team are friendly and do their best to help. Kindness goes a long way. 2. The natural beauty here cannot be beat. Very few Bora Bora resorts have the views of this place. 3. The mechanical, construction and landscaping issues are temporary and will be resolved once the construction is through. I should have been allowed to cancel my reservation though, for I paid way too much for things not having been completed."

"The Conrad Bora Bora Nui has went above and beyond exceptional for our elopement/first time here! To start, the resort in its self is absolutely gorgeous. From the pool, to the restaurants, to our overwater bungalow was all so mind blowing! The cleanliness, attention to detail, decorations, and set-up really felt so relaxing and that we were at a spa 24/7. Now for the elopement portion, if you were ever thinking about eloping, this is THE PLACE TO DO IT! Esmeralda, our wedding planner/concierge took phenomenal care of us, that we truly felt like royalty! The precision and execution of every big and small event that was planned was astounding! Not to mention the thought, care, and time she put into every piece really showed off her passion for the job. We did the hibiscus package which included a private island ceremony, photographer, dancers, band, officiant, marriage certification, champagne, breakfast by canoe, private dinner, couples massage, romantic turn down service, I mean the list can go on.. by the end of it, Esmeralda felt like family. And not to mention the rest of the staff greeting us and congratulating us every single day was so heart warming that I felt like they all truly cared about our love and our day. Even Kevin, the manager, came out and was excited to meet us the minute we stepped onto the island, and made sure we were having the best day every single day! From Esmeralda, to Kevin, to Poena (the restaurant manager), to every single staff member that works on this resort, I can not thank you enough for a truly stress free, memorable, absolutely beautiful wedding that will last a lifetime! This will go down as one of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Thank you thank you, and perhaps we’ll see you on our first anniversary as a married couple 🥰"

"Our experience at Conrad Bora Bora Nui was honestly beyond anything we could have imagined. From the second we arrived, every single person made us feel welcomed, celebrated, and genuinely cared for. The level of hospitality here is something truly special. What stood out the most was how personal everything felt. Staff members knew our names, greeted us every day with kindness and excitement, asked us about the wedding, congratulated us afterward, and truly made us feel like family rather than guests. You can tell the team here genuinely cares about creating unforgettable experiences. A huge thank you to Kevin, Poema, and especially Esmeralda for making our wedding experience absolutely perfect. Esmeralda coordinated everything flawlessly, from communication to flowers to photographers to every little detail in between, and somehow made the entire process feel effortless and stress free. Poema made every dining experience feel special, and Kevin leads an incredible team that clearly takes pride in what they do. The property itself is breathtaking, the food was incredible, the service was world class, and the memories we made here will stay with us forever. We truly could not have picked a more perfect place for our wedding. Thank you again to everyone at Conrad Bora Bora Nui for giving us one of the best experiences of our lives. 🤍"

"My husband and I had an amazing time! Everything was perfect! The staff was so great, making us always feel like a VIP customer. We were treated well as a diamond member and upgraded to an over the water bungalow. The room was gorgeous and so roomy! Our favorite restaurant was the Banyan Chinese Restaurant. So yummy! From start to finish everything was 5 star! I highly recommend this resort."
