Spread across a private motu in French Polynesia's most mythologized lagoon, with the volcanic silhouette of Mount Otemanu rising directly across the water, the Four Seasons Bora Bora works with a geography so theatrical it could easily overwhelm any architectural ambition. Instead, the resort — which opened in 2008 across 107 bungalows and villas arranged along boardwalks extending over the lagoon and through dense coconut groves — subordinates itself to that landscape with considerable discipline. Thatched pandanus roofs pitched at steep traditional Polynesian angles keep the structures low against the treeline, their forms drawn from fare architecture rather than imposed upon it. Inside, the palette is warm and unassuming: horizontal-planked tamanu timber walls, rich merbau hardwood floors, and woven pandanus ceiling panels that filter light and soften sound in equal measure. The furniture is calibrated to the same register — rattan armchairs with ikat-print cushions, freestanding soaking tubs positioned to face garden plantings of heliconia and ginger, carved stone headboard panels echoing traditional Polynesian tapa motifs. The pool bar pavilions photographed here, with their deep-thatch canopies and honey-toned timber bar stools set directly on white sand, carry the same easy consistency between indoor and outdoor registers that makes the property feel genuinely rooted in place rather than assembled from a generic tropical vocabulary.

"The GREATEST honeymoon location on Earth! My wife and I had a magical stay, highlighted by an extremely friendly staff, a magical bungalow experience, and all the little details that show how much thought and care go into making this resort among the best in the world. I could not recommend it more highly for honeymooners, families, and anyone looking to experience paradise!"

"We had our wedding and honeymoon at Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora, and it was truly the experience of a lifetime. From the moment we arrived, every single detail was handled with warmth, grace, and genuine care. The Wedding Coordinator (Marine) and VIP Concierge team exceeded every expectation we had. They transformed our vision into the most breathtaking ceremony we could have imagined — effortlessly elegant, deeply personal, and absolutely unforgettable. It felt like a dream unfolding in real time. Our overwater bungalow was pure paradise: waking up to turquoise water, sipping coffee as the sun rose over the lagoon, and falling asleep to the sound of the ocean. The entire resort is immaculate, serene, and perfectly designed for romance. What truly sets this place apart, though, is the people. The staff somehow manage to be both flawlessly professional and incredibly warm — every interaction felt thoughtful and sincere. We felt celebrated, cared for, and completely at home in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. If you’re considering this resort for a wedding, honeymoon, anniversary, or once-in-a-lifetime trip — stop thinking and book it. We’ll treasure these memories forever and cannot wait to return."

"The Four Seasons Bora Bora is a stunning property with beautiful grounds, including white sand beaches, an exceptional lagoon restored with coral reefs and abundant marine life, and spectacular overwater bungalows offering breathtaking views of Mount Otemanu. I can only give it four stars, as the service and especially the food fall short of the standards expected at other Four Seasons properties. While the service is generally attentive and polite, it is highly inconsistent, ranging from very basic at check in to excellent and professional in room dining. Some staff members do not speak English fluently enough, which occasionally leads to minor but awkward miscommunication. This appears to be a training issue, with noticeable differences in effort and professionalism among staff. Unlike other Four Seasons resorts, there is no consistent standard of greeting or warmth, such as a welcoming smile. The biggest disappointment, however, is the food, particularly breakfast. Despite a fairly extensive à la carte menu, the buffet selection is extremely limited, with few fresh fruit options, a small selection of pastries, and very limited fresh juices. Dining options overall are restricted to just two restaurants, and the food quality does not justify the exorbitant prices."

"My husband and I just returned from visiting multiple resorts in Bora Bora. 3 nights Intercontinental, 5 St. Regis, 1 Four Seasons. The Four Seasons was our last night in Bora Bora. Things that stood out for the Four Seasons: 1. The level of acknowledgement of our special occasion. All resorts gave us something, but the Four Seasons acknowledged upon check in, provided elevated sweet bites, tote bag, water bottles, and hats. A very celebratory welcome! 2. The level of care given to the grounds and lagoonarium. We did also enjoy the lagoonarium at the St. Regis. It is great that you can snorkel and see fish in shallow water without leaving the resort. 3. We had the most direct, closest view of Mt. Otenamu here. Here is a pleasant surprise and tip! We did not have a pool but the bathtub is very large and you are able to slide the doors around it closed so it is like you have your own outdoor bathtub. Very cool. I’ll post a picture. 4. Perhaps most importantly… we arrived late in the afternoon and realized that our toilet had a leak that made the floor wet. These things can happen. Maintenance came and determined it could not be easily fixed. Manager Jimmy came and found us at dinner and talked over the options of moving us or putting some towels on the floor. We chose the latter, given it was fairly late and we were only staying for one night. He proactively took care of our dinner, and seemed to genuinely care about our experience. The next day, as we were about to leave to fly back home, my husband could not find his passport. We looked everywhere then called the front desk. They checked the video and told us where my husband put the passport when the front desk had returned it to him at check in. But it wasn’t there. Manager Veronique went to our room with security after the bellman took us and our bags to the front so we could get on the boat. Luckily, my husband then found it in his luggage. The desk called Veronique to let us know and she was again very kind. The fact that the managers jumped in quickly to get involved with the issues we encountered (and created) was very impressive to us. We expect good service when things go as we dream (like when Elia brings us iced coffee to go at breakfast), but it is even more exceptional to experience it when things do not go as planned. We are incredibly grateful for your kindness and thank you for making sure that our very last day in paradise was exceptional!"
