PB hotel design editorial

At the southern end of Gendarmenmarkt, one of Berlin's most formally composed public spaces, a stucco-fronted Wilhelmine-era building with a patinated copper mansard roof and five ordered storeys of tall windows carries the Titanic Gendarmenmarkt Berlin — a property whose address alone sets a near-impossible standard for urban setting among the city's hotels. The facade, warmly uplift in the images, belongs to the classical streetscape of Friedrichstadt with obvious conviction: rusticated base, rhythmic fenestration, wrought-iron balcony rails at the piano nobile. The hotel operates 179 rooms across the building's full depth, its Turkish-owned Titanic Hotels group having committed to a level of finish that takes the Wilhelmine exterior as its reference point rather than its constraint. Inside, the interiors move between two registers. Guestrooms pair upholstered wing-curved headboards in ivory bouclé with burnt-orange accent cushions and mirrored wardrobe panels reflecting lacquered red-trimmed desk furniture — a palette that keeps one foot in the warm classicism of the building while the other steps toward a sharper, more contemporary Berlin sensibility. The steakhouse restaurant below works a different mood entirely: a coffered ceiling in lacquered auburn timber squares, cobalt glassware on dark walnut tables, and longhorn skulls mounted against charcoal walls. Most surprising is the hammam, its domed ceiling pierced by star-shaped apertures that throw shifting light across travertine-clad walls and an octagonal central platform — an Ottoman spatial idea transplanted, with complete seriousness, to the heart of Prussian Berlin.

Titanic Gendarmenmarkt Berlin Reviews

"Beautiful hotel in general. Greeted warmly from staff. Great service in the bar and breakfast area. Decor is titanic cruise style. Lovely spa. Cleanliness throughout the hotel was top notch. Breakfast is plentiful and a fresh. Quiet room. Cannot beat the location! 10 minutes in any direction and you’re where you need to be! I booked a 5 star hotel thinking even though we have one of the cheaper rooms it’s still a 5 star. I have to say the room was very small (one piece of luggage was a lot) and a bit shabby. Bed was okay but slightly lumpy. We were placed at the back of the hotel, literally the last room and in my opinion the area could use some renovation. Only because again, it’s claiming to be a 5star. I would consider the accommodation that we stayed in a decent City 4. The thing is if you want a bigger nicer room without special amenities then choose another hotel. If you don’t care about the room and love the service and spa then it’s a great choice. Otherwise spend the money and choose a better room here. Also The Hamman is beautiful but you have to pay 15 euro for the scrub. Breakfast is expensive if it’s not included. If you’re not a big eater like me it’s not worth the money."

"This is in a great location. Friendly staff. Fine dining although ruined by a member of staff. We complained 3 times about him"

"This beautifully decorated hotel is in a fabulous location to explore the city, the room was perfect for a short stay, just enough room and with an incredibly comfortable bed. Unfortunately due to renovations in the adjoining restaurant, this was closed (which wasn’t mentioned at the time of booking) but with plenty of other restaurants to choose nearby, this wasn’t a major issue. But what was a problem was the noise in the hotel bar and lounge, intermittent drilling and banging as workmen rushed to finish for the grand reopening. I wish we’d been told of the work as we’d have booked somewhere else on this occasion but would have instead visited at a later date when the work was complete."
