PB hotel design editorial

A former headquarters building for a Cologne insurance company, its limestone-clad wings splayed in a bold horseshoe around a forecourt fountain, gives 25hours Hotel The Circle its most arresting quality: the tension between monumental postmodern civic architecture and the deliberately irreverent interior world fitted inside it. Completed in the 1980s and converted for the Hamburg-based 25hours group, the ten-storey structure sits in the Gereons-Viertel district with the self-assurance of a building that never expected to become a playground — which is precisely what interior designers Werner Aisslinger and his studio have made of it, anchoring the concept around space exploration as an unlikely organizing metaphor. The rooms carry that idea with surprising discipline: exposed concrete ceilings left raw above oak-framed slatted headboard dividers, galaxy-print rugs beneath yellow tulip-form lounge chairs, brass fittings against charcoal walls and freestanding soaking tubs in the suites. The top-floor restaurant opens across floor-to-ceiling glazing toward Cologne Cathedral's spires, its polished concrete floors and hanging planters giving the space an industrial lightness that the red Magis-style dining chairs sharpen into something more vivid. The rooftop bar clusters low pod seating and a black marble fireplace surround against exposed ductwork and a cylindrical steel counter — the effect closer to a mid-century sci-fi film set than a conventional hotel lounge, which is entirely the point.

"Great location. Friendly staff. Excellent room. All the necessary in the room on arrival. Quirky decor. It was a great overnight stay. I would 100% recommend it to anyone else. Excellent."

"I stayed at 25hours Hotel The Circle in Cologne and overall had a very good experience. The room was incredible: spacious, modern, and thoughtfully designed, perfectly aligned with the hotel’s creative concept. You can really feel the strong theme throughout the property—it’s modern, stylish, and different from traditional hotels, which makes the stay more memorable. The included breakfasts were tasty and offered good options to start the day. The service from the breakfast staff felt a bit apathetic at times, although they were still kind and polite, so it didn’t negatively impact the experience too much. The Monkey Bar was a great spot to sit, chat, and enjoy the atmosphere. It’s very pleasant for drinks and conversation. Unfortunately, my Negroni had a slightly strange taste and wasn’t the best I’ve had, but the service at the bar was very good and the staff were attentive. Overall, it’s a hotel with an amazing concept, spectacular rooms, and a very cool vibe. With a few small improvements in service details and drinks, the experience would be perfect. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a stylish and unique place to stay in Cologne."

"We were drawn to the fun pictures of the rooms and hotel facilities: these did not lie! The hotel rooms are fun and the hotel is decorated in every corner! The room was spacious and had the loveliest shower! However, we did expect more of the bed. The bed was hard and mattress seemed cheap. Also the pillows were not very comfy. Breakfast on the other hand was amazing! The views and options were endless!! We also enjoyed having a glass of Prosecco! We also went to the bar for drinks at night and enjoyed the extensive menu and overall vibe of the bar. The location is close to the city centre, which was really nice during our city trip. However, we like sleeping with the window open and due to the club nearby, there was a lot of noise from nightlife on Saturday night. The hotel has parking spots available and if the parking is full there is an alternative across the street, so no comments."
