PB hotel design editorial

In Dresden's Innere Neustadt, a short walk from the Elbe embankment and the rebuilt splendour of the Frauenkirche across the river, a Baroque townhouse that once belonged to the aristocratic Bülow family carries the weight of Saxony's courtly past into the present. The Bülow Palais — reopened as a five-star hotel after meticulous restoration — presents its ochre-and-cream facade to a cobbled square with the contained confidence of a building that has always understood its own importance. The mansard roof with its arched dormers, the white stucco panel framing around the windows, and the restrained entrance canopy visible in the images all honour the late-Baroque and early Neoclassical grammar of Dresden's Neustadt quarter without tipping into pastiche. Inside, the interiors work a register that is emphatically warm rather than coolly historicist — terracotta carpets, dark-stained mahogany headboards inlaid with gilt-embossed panels, upholstered French-style bergère chairs in jewel-toned damask, and burnt-orange silk drapes framing tall windows. The attic suites, where sloping white barrel vaults carve the ceiling geometry, give the upper-floor rooms genuine character that flat-ceilinged renovations rarely achieve. The bar is the most theatrically resolved space: a curved dark-wood counter backlit by honey-coloured onyx panels, framed by red-and-green lacquered fauteuils with gilt cabriole legs, the whole room carrying the atmosphere of a Viennese grand café filtered through contemporary Central European hospitality. The terrace, set against the Baroque streetscape of Rähnitzgasse, extends the hotel's presence gracefully into the square.

About

Small. Fine. Noble. A private hideaway, far away from everyday life and right in the middle of it. In the romantic baroque quarter, a stroll away from the Dresden sights of the Frauenkirche, Zwinger, Semper Opera or Residenzschloss, lies the privately run 5-star superior Hotel Bülow Palais. From the hotel, those interested in culture can discover the beauties of Elbflorenz on foot. The Bülow Palais has 58 elegant rooms and suites: bright, friendly and luxuriously furnished. Fine fabrics and materials have been used everywhere. Three salons are available for private festivities or business occasions. Gastronomically, there is news: the previous bistro is merging with the fine dining restaurant Caroussel. The new restaurant concept is called Caroussel Nouvelle. The influence of gourmet cuisine remains unmistakable, but it will be more international. Seasonal and regional delights are complemented with specialities from traditional cuisines around the world. Meissen porcelain®, exciting wines and urban nonchalance lift the traditional restaurant boundaries. Chef Sven Vogel is responsible for this. Other pleasure spots are the Palais Bar, the stylish Cigar Lounge and, in the summer months, the terrace facing Königstraße. The Palais SPA with its three saunas, a fitness room with modern cardio equipment, an ice fountain and four treatment rooms exudes Caribbean flair. In the Finnish sauna, guests can even enjoy a view of the Königstraße rooftops. As part of lovingly put together arrangements with Semper Opera tickets and private city tours, hotel guests discover the beauties of Dresden and the surrounding area. A variety of events such as the Golf & Gourmet Cup, the VDP Wine Festival or the traditional Harvest Festival round off the offer.

Hotel Bülow Palais Reviews

775 reviews

"The overall experience in this hotel was rather positive although not exceptional. The front staff was very nice and welcoming. Nice sauna and good breakfast (although cramped at « rush hour »). The room was large enough and quiet, definitely very classical, meaning not very practical in the XXI Century …. And unfortunately the double bed was made with two adjacent mattresses, which was clearly uncomfortable and surprising in a hotel of this standing. Good wifi. Parking in house."
