PB hotel design editorial

Sachsenhausen's quietly residential streets have long sat at a remove from Frankfurt's financial district thunder — a neighbourhood of late-nineteenth-century stucco villas and cobbled lanes where the city's pace softens considerably. It is here that The Florentin by Althoff Collection was carved from a pair of Gründerzeit-era buildings, their sand-coloured facades, bracketed cornices, and zinc mansard additions preserved with careful restraint while a new wing extending behind them nearly doubled the floor area. The exterior visible in the images carries that characteristically Frankfurtian confidence — rusticated base, symmetrical balconied upper floors, mature plane trees filtering the light from the street — which the architects handled with enough fidelity to the original fabric that the intervention reads as continuation rather than interruption. Inside, the design registers as a sustained exercise in warm minimalism, with interior studios layering light oak flooring, boucle upholstery, and dark-veined marble side tables against walls held in pale greige and natural linen. Original arched windows in the historic rooms — their ornamental cast-iron radiator covers left in place — anchor the new furniture in period proportion. The restaurant shifts register entirely, its tall arched openings framing dense plantings of kentia and Strelitzia, terracotta leather chairs pulled up to travertine-topped tables beneath slatted timber ceilings. The pool hall, lit by tall arched fenestration and a series of suspended alabaster-effect tube pendants, achieves a stillness that the rest of the property — warm, considered, never cold — sustains throughout its 130 rooms.

About

The Florentin combines contemporary luxury with architectural finesse – an urban retreat in the leafy district of Sachsenhausen. 138 elegant rooms and suites offer an atmosphere of tranquillity and refined style. A particular highlight are the nine signature suites in the historic Villa Beit von Speyer, whose meticulously restored architecture lends the property an unmistakable charm. At the heart of the hotel lies The Garden Courtyard – a lushly landscaped haven of encounter and relaxation, where gastronomy and serenity flow seamlessly together. The expansive spa, spread over four levels with an indoor pool, saunas, treatment rooms, hair salon, and fitness area, invites guests to leave the everyday behind. Culinary variety unfolds at The Florentin: The Garden serves Mediterranean-inspired, seasonal dishes in a relaxed atmosphere, while The Dune fuses French craftsmanship with Asian flavors to create an extraordinary dining experience.

"This is a lovely new hotel in Sachsenhausen, Frankfurt am Main. The rooms are spotless and very well equipped with all the usual items you would expect in a hotel of this caliber. The japanese toilet was also a nice touch. Large windows allow quite a lot of natural light into the room as well. The rooms are also air conditioned, which would be quite nice in the warmer months! Check-in was very smooth, thanks to Thomas, so also assisted with understand the public transport system. The spa and pool area are expansive, with two saunas, a steam room, indoor and outdoor relaxation areas with plenty of comfortable loungers. Nina, the spa manager was very lovely and hospitable. Breakfast was at the Garden, where I also had dinner one night. The breakfast buffet is very expansive, with some rather exotic fruit- dragonfruit and star fruit to be specific. They also do a very nice avocado on toast, amongst other to-order items. The lunch and dinner menu are what you would expect at a gourmet European restaurant. They did have another restaurant with a more specialised menu, but it remains closed Sundays and Mondays. The hotel is quite a pleasant escape from the city. You can literally hear a pin drop in the courtyard. My only point of feedback would be for longer operational hours for the pool and sauna (currently the pool is open from 8AM to 8PM and the sauna from 10AM to 8PM). They do extend these on request, which is nice- so can’t really find fault there! Would definitely stay there again if I have to visit Frankfurt!"

"A very beautiful hotel with comfortable rooms, many amenities, and a great cigar lounge. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay. The only issue we experienced was with the air conditioning in the room."

"A brand-new hotel with beautiful, spacious rooms and exceptional attention to detail. The staff is truly excellent — professional, warm, and always willing to assist. It’s the perfect place not only for leisure but also to unwind and recharge, even during a business trip. A great balance between productivity and relaxation. Will definitely be back soon! 😊"
