PB hotel design editorial

Conceived as the music-themed flagship of NH Hotel Group's youth-oriented Jaz brand, the Stuttgart property sits within the Milaneo mixed-use development near the main railway station, its white facade articulated by a web of angular diagonal bracing that gives the tower an almost exoskeletal quality — somewhere between parametric ambition and automotive aerodynamics. Ingenhoven Architects, the Düsseldorf practice behind Stuttgart's celebrated underground railway station, designed the building, and their signature interest in flowing geometry carries through the exterior's interlocking faceted panels and deep cantilevered balconies. Jaz in the City Stuttgart opened in 2015 across the lower floors of the complex, with 195 rooms spread over the podium block beneath a residential tower that amplifies the development's vertical drama against the Stuttgart skyline. Inside, the interiors trade the building's formal rigidity for deliberate energy. Guest rooms layer pale oak flooring and grey-upholstered walls with bursts of magenta velvet — tub chairs in crimson with teal cushions, glimpses of hot-pink feature walls visible through sliding lacquered-glass doors. The restaurant ceiling overhead is canopied with a dense installation of irregular metallic fragments, each folded and suspended at a different angle, scattering light in a way that gestures toward acoustic baffling as much as decoration. Up on the rooftop terrace, ornamental grasses and lavender planted between low-slung circular seating pods soften the urban panorama, Stuttgart's hillside suburbs and television tower visible in every direction at dusk.

"Nice hotel with a great location, just beside Milaneo shopping center. Clean and spacious room, very comfort king size bed, excellent shower, coffee machine and minibar are available. 2 free water bottles is a nice gest. Fast internet connection, Sauna is available and free of charge. Breakfast is basic but OK, parking is available in an external underground garage for 20 Euro/per night with an advance booking. Easy and fast check-in and check-out. I'd like to thank and appreciate Catalin from the reception team for his great help and for his friendly and nice attitude."

"Hotel Jaz in the City is a modern hotel on the edge of a lively complex that blends living spaces, shops, and leisure. The Underground and main railway station are just a short walk away, and you are close to the City Library, the sprawling Milaneo Shopping Complex, and a vast choice of eateries. But every adventure has its quirks, and ours came with a few surprises. The rooms, while sleek and stylish, seemed to have a secret ambition to double as a sauna. The air conditioning was either on a break or just not up to the task, so we found ourselves sleeping with the window open, letting the city’s nighttime soundtrack drift in. Housekeeping played hard to get during our four-day stay. Despite using the high-tech door card system to request a service our room was never cleaned. We had to call reception twice for fresh towels and a much-needed tea and coffee refill. Not ideal, but at least the staff were polite when we contacted them, but they never advised us that service should be booked from the room, using the small tablet device. The terrace bar was a let down as staff seemed more interested in socialising than in serving guests. And the downstairs bar/restaurant? It was always closed in the evening when we tried to visit, adding a touch of mystery to our stay. If you are after a hotel with a prime location and don’t mind a few quirks along the way, this spot is worth considering. Just pack a sense of humour—and maybe a portable fan."
