PB hotel design editorial

Agias Eirinis Square in Athens' Monastiraki district sits at a peculiar intersection of the ancient and the everyday — a neighbourhood where Roman-era foundations emerge from beneath neoclassical street grids, and where the Acropolis appears suddenly between buildings as you turn a corner. It is precisely this layered urban quality that the Perianth Hotel, which opened in 2018, was designed to absorb and reflect. The building's rendered facade, with its cantilevered balconies and clean horizontal banding, carries the restrained geometry of interwar Athenian modernism rather than reaching for novelty, allowing it to sit comfortably beside the district's eclectic streetscape. Inside, the design calibrates its materials carefully against the city's weight. The double-height lobby sets a dark terrazzo floor against a dramatic vertical screen of oak and brass balusters that traces the staircase upward, while one wall is clad in deep storm-grey marble veined in cloud white — a pairing that feels genuinely Athenian in its gravity. Guest rooms carry the same cool restraint: polished concrete aggregate floors, walnut joinery edged in brushed brass, dusty-rose velvet upholstery and gold-framed full-length mirrors providing warmth without sentimentality. The suites facing the Acropolis take full advantage of their position, grey steel casement windows framing the Parthenon at close range. At street level, the elliptical bar — pale green lacquered cabinetry, a veined marble counter, antique mirror cladding the back wall — draws the square's foot traffic inward with the ease of a well-placed Athenian kafeneion.

Perianth Hotel Reviews

"is lovely and our rooms were quite large. The shower in our room was HUGE! Room 504. The balconies were also very large and we had views of the Parthenon from our balconies. We were top floor facing the parthenon. The view at night was incredible. Athen was NOT my favorite part of this muti leg trip. Basically a Greek NYC. Very crowded streets and somewhat dirty in lots of places. BUT, the Perianth was for sure a welcome oasis in the midst of all of it. My most enjoyable part was sitting on our massive balconies with the wonderful views. It is VERY urban and noisy, but, with doors shut, I never heard a thing."

"This is a very cool and modern hotel. It's minutes walk to everything you want in Athens if you are sightseeing. It has a really artsy vibe which we loved. Our check in was flawless and they left us beautiful sweets and a bottle of wine in the room with a welcome note. The porters coordinated our luggage handling perfectly with our car service both coming and going. Our room was huge and had an awesome view of the Parthenon, even from our shower and tub. The main floor restaurant is really good there too and the staff was super attentive and kind."

"Was fortunate enough to stay here 3 nights. I loved everything about this hotel...from the spacious and sparkling clean rooms to the amazing team ensuring your happiness. And the lively area around the hotel with great nightlife and shopping steps from the front door. But don't worry...the windows are soundproof. Also loved the mattress and bed...you won't regret staying here. And make sure to try the steak Gyros plate at the restaurant. They also serve wine from one of the owners personal Winery and its delicious. I'll be back 100%"

"We loved our stay at the Perianth. Such a lovely hotel in a fantastic location, close to all of the sites (and sights) of Athens. It's a short walk to the Acropolis and the Agora, as well as Monastiraki and Psirri. Tons of bars and restaurants nearby... the square in front of the hotel is very lively and stays open late on a Saturday night, but it was still quiet in our room. Nice view of the Acropolis from our small balcony. This is a great choice if you're looking for something in downtown Athens."
