PB hotel design editorial

Strung along the sheltered arc of Mirabello Bay on Crete's northeastern coast, where the Aegean shifts between turquoise shallows and deep cobalt, the Elounda Beach Hotel & Villas has shaped the visual grammar of Greek resort architecture since it first opened in 1971. The property spreads across roughly forty acres of landscaped grounds, its low-slung whitewashed bungalows and villas stepping down toward the water in a disposition that borrows from Cycladic village planning — clusters of flat-roofed volumes separated by planted terraces, stone walls, and pathways that dissolve the institutional scale of a 258-room resort into something closer to a private settlement. The aerial view confirms how deliberately the buildings defer to the bay, their white geometry threading between mature olive and palm plantings without ever competing with the hills behind. Interiors across the various room categories reveal two distinct registers. The more recent waterfront suites lean into a spare coastal modernism — floor-to-ceiling sliding glass walls erasing the boundary between bedroom and timber deck, molded resin outdoor furniture in organic forms, pale limestone floors, and upholstered headboards in ivory linen. An older category of accommodation takes a warmer approach, with blush geometric-print throws, woven rattan seating, and warm-toned oak flooring. The waterfront dining terrace, set on a hardwood deck extending over the bay, furnishes its tables with high-backed wicker chairs and cobalt glassware that catches the last of the evening light — a scene that has changed very little in the decades since this stretch of Crete first became a byword for discreet Aegean luxury.

"We stayed a week at this really nice hotel area. It is a really big area but everything is nicely connected. Four good restaurant to choose from and a very good breakfast area. One thing we really liked was that you keep your beach beds the whole week and don't have to chase a spot every day. The staff in general was very nice and helpful. A calm play to just enjoy."

"We enjoyed a perfect holiday at Elounda Beach Hotel. You can completely relax here in the beautiful surroundings and experiences excellent food in the restaurants. Elounda, Agios Nikolaos and Spinalonga island are all easily visited if you can pull yourself away from the lovely beach and clear water. This is a special place"

"We stayed at this resort for 10 nights in mid September and thoroughly enjoyed it - the setting is glorious , the staff are all fantastic and helpful. The slow pace did take some getting used to - until you realise that you you are, in fact totally and utterly relaxed and the resort has embraced you. If you can afford it , upgrade , but the lower tariff apartments we stayed in were still pretty nice. The on-site food is good , but you will have had better , if you like fine dining/are a bit of a foodie and booking a table reservation was easy. I would opt for the breakfast only package - there are a plethora of decent places to eat in nearby villages and towns and you’ll not be tied into dining at the hotel every evening. There is no bar scene as such - it’s all pretty quiet by 12, which suited us but if you are used to a more raucous atmosphere I’d suggest somewhere else. All in all, an amazing experience in a beautiful part of Crete and I would highly recommend this resort to anyone who wants to unplug from their everyday and totally relax in beautiful surroundings."

"We were upgraded to Elounda Beach from Elounda Palace as we were told that the Palace was closing on 23 October & our stay was until 26 October. My room had a fantastic sea view so the upgrade was wonderful as my previous room was a Mountain View. Private beaches and lovely pool. The staff were all exceptional. So helpful friendly. The food in the restaurants was also excellent. Only downside- bad bath design. When having a shower the bath had a sunken gully around it which filled with water and travelled around the bath onto the floor. This was quite annoying as I had to try and pack the gully with towels to stop this happening. Also the Palace hotel had a rave part on the last 3 nights of our holiday. This meant no sleep as the music was very loud and continued to 7 in the morning. Despite these 2 issues I would highly recommend the hotel."

"My stay at Elounda Beach Hotel & Villas was truly unforgettable. I spent two months here, and what made this experience so special were the incredible people who became like family to me - Nikolina, Erini, Marios, Valeria, kirilos and dimitris. I have never met people more genuine, kind, and hardworking. Their warmth, professionalism, and constant smiles made every single day better. They went above and beyond in every way possible, and I can honestly say that my stay was ten times better because of them. Elounda Beach is a beautiful place, but it's the people who make it truly exceptional. I'm beyond grateful for the memories and the friendships I've made here. Thank you for making me feel at home from day one - I can't wait to come back. - Saint Tala"
