PB hotel design editorial

Scattered across a private peninsula jutting into the Gulf of Mirabello on Crete's northeastern coast, the bungalow clusters and whitewashed pavilions of Minos Beach Art Hotel have defined a distinctly Greek model of resort making since the property first opened in 1960. Rather than consolidating accommodation into a single monolithic block, the original design spread low-rise structures through mature gardens of olive, cypress, and palm — a horizontal grammar that keeps the Aegean perpetually visible and gives the grounds the atmosphere of a small coastal village rather than a conventional hotel compound. The stone seawall terrace visible in the images, where sunloungers sit directly above turquoise water with Agios Nikolaos across the bay, captures what makes the site exceptional: an intimacy with the sea that newer resorts try to manufacture but rarely achieve. The interiors, refreshed in recent years, work a restrained Mediterranean minimalism — polished concrete floors, undyed linen upholstery, walnut bedside shelves, and seagrass baskets as the primary decorative gesture. Pendant lights on bare cord replace conventional bedside sconces, and the palette holds firmly to warm grey, slate, and off-white, avoiding the glossy excess that has overtaken much of the Greek luxury market. Outside, thatched parasols and bamboo sun-deck furniture sit against dry-stone retaining walls and vine-draped stone arches, the poolside architecture carrying the easy confidence of a building that has never needed to announce itself.

"Our stay at Minos Beach Art Hotel was truly unforgettable and easily one of the most special experiences of our lives. The hotel itself is absolutely incredible — the beautiful setting by the sea, stunning rooms, amazing food and drinks, and exceptional service throughout made every moment feel special. Everything was relaxed, elegant, and effortlessly perfect from start to finish. During our stay, I proposed to my girlfriend, and the staff played such an important part in making it a moment we will treasure forever. A huge thank you to Maria, Vasiliki, and Viola on reception, who were simply amazing. They helped me organise and secretly film the proposal, while also being unbelievably kind, supportive, and accommodating throughout our stay. Their warmth and genuine care meant so much to us, and they truly helped turn this into the trip of a lifetime. They will always be part of one of the happiest memories we have. We also want to give special thanks to Maria Leivadari and Despina in the main restaurant, who made every meal such a welcoming and enjoyable experience with their kindness and attention to detail. And finally, a huge thank you to Eva and the gentleman (young chap, curlyish brown hair) working at Pure Bar by the sea, whose name I sadly didn’t catch. Both of them were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and brought such a great atmosphere every time we visited. Pure quickly became one of our favourite places at the hotel because of them. What makes Minos Beach Art Hotel so exceptional is not just how beautiful it is, but the people who make you feel genuinely cared for from the moment you arrive. We left with memories we’ll cherish forever and cannot wait to come back one day. Thank you again to everyone at Minos Beach Art Hotel for such an extraordinary stay."
