PB hotel design editorial

Perched at the edge of the Aegean on the outskirts of Agios Nikolaos, where the Mirabello Bay opens toward the island scatter of eastern Crete, NIKO Seaside Resort sits within a contemporary structure whose horizontal concrete terracing steps down toward the water in a geometry that feels less like a hotel than a piece of coastal infrastructure. The architecture — clean cantilevered slabs, full-height glazing, and infinity-edged pool decks that dissolve into the bay — draws from the tradition of Greek modernism while shedding any folkloric reference. The MGallery collection positioned this adults-only property as a design-forward proposition for a coast better known for sprawling resort complexes. Inside, two distinct registers operate in dialogue. The guest rooms keep things spare and sensory: wide-plank pale oak flooring, linen-toned upholstery, black steel shelving frames that divide the wardrobe from the sleeping area without enclosing it, and pendant lights in woven shades casting amber warmth against white walls. Every room frames the turquoise bay like a painting. The food and beverage spaces take a more assertive turn — deep emerald zellige tile cladding the column piers, curved bouclé banquettes in warm grey, terrazzo-topped bar counters, and lacquered wall panels in coral red printed with organic gold forms that carry a vaguely Mediterranean-surrealist character. The outdoor dining terrace, furnished with dark steel and oak chairs beneath a louvred pergola, holds the sunset over the Aegean with appropriate restraint.

"Our stay at the hotel was magical. We were a group of three couples staying in three luxurious rooms. The hotel staff was amazing; I must specifically mention Penelope and Maria at the reception, as well as Dina at the Michaela Spa, who gave my wife's father a highly professional massage. The dining room staff was welcoming and attentive to every request. There is just one issue regarding the rooms: The shower area cannot be fully enclosed. Beyond the privacy concern, water splashes everywhere; stepping out onto a wet floor is unpleasant, and it isn't just the floor that gets wet. It would be worth considering a change or finding a way to enclose the shower. Thank you"

"We stayed here in July 2026, and it exceeded my expectations! I was very worried coming to this hotel due to reading the negative reviews and I can confirm that this hotel is the best one I’ve stayed at. So, if you’ve booked this hotel and you’re worried about coming here, do not worry. You’ll love it. I loved this hotel for many reasons. This hotel is so gorgeous. The interior is 10/10. The staff are so helpful and attentive. They can’t do anymore to help you. They were incredible and so friendly! Everywhere inside is Air Conditioned very well. (The best air conditioned hotel I’ve ever been to!) We had a room with a plunge pool which was 10/10. Our room was cleaned everyday and with a turndown service in the evenings. Our room was lovely and spacious. The only negative thing I would add about this hotel is the shower situation, being open and not having a door enclosed to the rest of the room, I found this a little uncomfortable due to having no privacy, but it wasn’t that big of a deal. I also want to add there is no fighting for sun beds before 8am. The breakfast has many options, something for everyone! (Even if you’re a picky eater!) The Lunch Menu is also so lovely! (I would highly recommend eating here especially during a heatwave!) I would definitely return to this hotel. I want to add a special thank you to the staff at this hotel who were so very kind and helpful and made our stay one to remember."

"An unforgettable experience! We had an absolutely wonderful stay. The hotel itself is beautiful, spotless, and has such a relaxing atmosphere. Everything was thoughtfully designed, and we truly enjoyed every moment of our vacation. The spa was one of the highlights of our stay. From the very first moment, everyone was so warm, friendly, and professional. The staff always made sure we had all the information we needed and made us feel comfortable throughout the entire experience. We chose the body scrub, the aloe vera treatment, and the massage, and every single part of the experience was absolutely perfect. A very special thank you to Valedina and Michaela for their exceptional service and incredible massage. They made the whole experience truly magical. The only small suggestion we have is regarding breakfast. Sometimes it took a while for the coffee to be prepared and served. Perhaps it would be worth considering adding a self-service coffee station for guests who, like me, need their coffee first thing in the morning before breakfast. 😊 Overall, everything was simply dreamy. We highly recommend this hotel and spa to anyone visiting Crete. This is an experience you absolutely should not miss, and we would love to come back again!"
