PB hotel design editorial

Perched at the edge of the Aegean on the outskirts of Agios Nikolaos, where the Mirabello Bay opens toward the island scatter of eastern Crete, NIKO Seaside Resort sits within a contemporary structure whose horizontal concrete terracing steps down toward the water in a geometry that feels less like a hotel than a piece of coastal infrastructure. The architecture — clean cantilevered slabs, full-height glazing, and infinity-edged pool decks that dissolve into the bay — draws from the tradition of Greek modernism while shedding any folkloric reference. The MGallery collection positioned this adults-only property as a design-forward proposition for a coast better known for sprawling resort complexes. Inside, two distinct registers operate in dialogue. The guest rooms keep things spare and sensory: wide-plank pale oak flooring, linen-toned upholstery, black steel shelving frames that divide the wardrobe from the sleeping area without enclosing it, and pendant lights in woven shades casting amber warmth against white walls. Every room frames the turquoise bay like a painting. The food and beverage spaces take a more assertive turn — deep emerald zellige tile cladding the column piers, curved bouclé banquettes in warm grey, terrazzo-topped bar counters, and lacquered wall panels in coral red printed with organic gold forms that carry a vaguely Mediterranean-surrealist character. The outdoor dining terrace, furnished with dark steel and oak chairs beneath a louvred pergola, holds the sunset over the Aegean with appropriate restraint.

"The hotel room stank to the high heavens. Honestly it smelt like a sewage did inform them however nothing was done. The restuarnt has very limited menu per day a choice of 3 meals a day. Portion size is probably for a mouse. We did half board that is breakfast and dinner unlike other hotels ive stayed at you can choose which meal you want to have for example breakfast and lunch or lunch and dinner here they are strict breakfast and dinner which meant one day we couldn't utilise our dinner. The room really smelt I believe this is due to sewer issues. We had a leak in our ceiling too which was splashing into our suitcase. The pool outside was stone cold was told it should be 25 degrees told them it wasn't they said someone will come and try increase the temperature of water no one did. Unfortunately I was not as impressed as I had hoped. The reviews online was not my experience. I spoke to another lady who was staying at the hotel she was having the same issues with the dreadful smell and leaks.. its a shame.."

"I have experienced far better value, food, and quality at resorts costing half the price. NIKO Seaside Resort completely misses the mark on basic hospitality, property upkeep, and daily cleanliness. The bathroom sink basin is cracked and leaking water straight through the stone joints onto the floor, a mysterious puddle of water was sitting on the floor by the balcony door, and a towel hook was completely missing. These are glaring defects that housekeeping and management should have easily noticed and repaired before checking a guest into the room. I asked to change room partly also because the staff that checked me in the night before erroneously said I was in a sea view room and I asked her to honor that after getting to the room and realizing it was an atrium view. The staff shut down the room change request, saying maintenance would fix the sink right away and that I signed up for the atrium view (my booking was for a deluxe room with plunge pool, doesn’t specify view). While they sent maintenance to fix the sink and replace the hook while I was out for six hours, the plumbing job was completely botched. Upon returning, water was still leaking through the stone seams and dripping from the drainage pipes underneath. Housekeeping didn’t bother with resetting the room. They just threw the sheets over the bed sloppily, dirty cups were left unreplaced, and the used bathroom towels were not touched, left hanging untidily exactly the way I had left them. In a premium resort, you expect housekeeping to reset the space so it feels fresh daily. The private plunge pool is also purely decorative and highly unsanitary, filled with bugs, and covered in a strange white residue. Disappointing Food Everything regarding food here is mediocre. My first-night dinner appetizers were served cold, the salmon was overcooked, and the business class food on my flight was of significantly higher quality. Breakfast the next morning was equally disappointing, featuring cold food, stale bread, and dry pastries. Worse, the service is nonexistent. I was seated at a table that was visibly dirty and covered in crumbs from the previous guest. No one ever came to take my coffee order. When I finally flagged down a staff member, she seemed actively annoyed by the request. The coffee finally arrived after I had already finished eating, and it was lukewarm. The view from the hotel restaurant is spectacular, but that is entirely nature's doing, not the hotel's. The actual management, service, and execution of this property are incredibly sub-par. Save your money and go somewhere that actually understands luxury execution."

"We stayed here for 10 days in May. Overall, I would give it 3 stars — definitely not 5. To start with the positives: the location is perfect, only about a 5-minute walk to the boulevard with several nice restaurants. Parking is also convenient; if there is no space available, you can leave your car in front of the hotel and hand over your keys. The breakfast was decent as well. It was the same every day, but there was enough variety to choose from. We did not have dinner at the hotel, so I cannot review that. Although it was not peak season yet, you still had to wake up very early to get a sunbed by the pool. In the 10 days we stayed here we did not manage to get a sunbed at the pool on the 5th floor at all. They simply do not have enough sunbeds for all the guests. The pool on the 9th floor can hardly be called a pool, as it is only about 50 cm deep. The pool bar on the 9th floor was also closed. They said it was because it was not busy enough, even though every sunbed was occupied. There was no music and no staff present, and you had to go down to the 5th floor to get a drink. We went away from the hotel for a few days just because there was no space anywhere. There is also no beach at all in front of the hotel. All they have is a concrete plaque on top of the water with some sunbeds on it. If you want to lay on the beach, do not go to this hotel. Another downside is that if your room is on the 4th floor or lower, you need to take two different elevators to reach the pools and restaurant, which can be quite annoying. The sunbeds were also placed very close together. Overall, it feels like the hotel does not have the facilities to properly accommodate the number of guests staying there. I would say I did not get the value for money from this hotel."

"Overall a really good experience. Staff were very accommodating and welcoming and always had a smile on their face. The rooms are clean and well equipped with coffee and tea making facilities / safe / iron etc. The lights take some working out, but we got there eventually. Beds / pillows etc were comfy. The bathroom sink and shower is open to the main bedroom area without any door across the shower; which may not be suitable for everyone. We had a room on the 2nd floor; the road noise was very loud when sat on the balcony (when the door was closed you couldn’t hear the noise), so if you like to sit on the balcony maybe request a higher floored room. The hotel is in a fabulous position, close to the centre with great bars and restaurants within a short walk."
