PB hotel design editorial

Cascading down an olive-studded hillside above the Aegean at Ouranoupolis — the last Greek town before the monastic peninsula of Mount Athos begins — Eagles Villas arranges its whitewashed volumes in a loose terraced formation that borrows from the vernacular logic of a Greek hillside village without reproducing it literally. The aerial view confirms the strategy: discrete villa structures step down the slope toward the water, each with its own private pool deck, the whole composition threaded together by landscaped pathways and low stone walls that anchor the buildings to the terrain rather than imposing on it. The Sporades islands float in the middle distance, framed differently from every terrace. Inside, the interiors move between two registers. The villa rooms favor a pared-back Aegean palette — white walls, pale limestone floors, natural linen, ash-toned timber joinery — with full-width sliding glazed doors that dissolve the boundary between bedroom and deck. A second room type introduces a more graphic sensibility: a monochrome geometric headboard wall, louvered wardrobe panels, and accents of Aegean blue on a bench end and scatter cushions, the effect closer to a considered boutique hotel than a resort suite. The beachside restaurant completes the picture in the most direct way possible: white-painted timber pergola structure, rush-seated chairs, woven rattan lanterns, and straw parasols standing at the water's edge, with nothing between the dining table and the open sea.

"We have just booked a return visit to Eagles Villas, having had a great 5 day break last year to celebrate the end of A level exams for my daughter. We don’t normally go to the same place twice in a row and rarely even go somewhere twice, so this is very much reflective of the high standard we experienced. If you’re looking for contemporary accommodation with a private plunge pool/sunloungers, an indoor/outdoor restaurant for breakfast that is separate from the bustle of the main hotel, views to die for, private section of a private sandy beach, access to all the hotel restaurants, buggy service across the resort at your fingertips and quick access to a small town/large village for great seafood - then look no further. We slept brilliantly whilst there, comfortable bed and little external noise. Very effective aircon and, despite some mosquitos/wasps at the restaurant on the beach (dealt with very effectively by the staff), succumbed to very few insect bites (and they usually love me). The resort never felt busy although the team said it was almost at max capacity. We found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful (although those at the main hotel reception were less so). I note the main hotel is continuing its refurbishment this winter and hope this includes the spa. My only grumble related to the facilities there. Had hoped for a late check out on our last day but that wasn’t possible so were advised we could use the showers at the spa when we came off the beach. We’d booked to have treatments there too. The only showers are either not enclosed (near the pool) or are within the treatment rooms. When we arrived all treatment rooms were occupied, so this messed up the timings for our treatments as we needed to shower first. A solution was eventually found after much communication. A separate private showers/dressing area with hairdryers would be a great addition. Oh and a second grumble, please find an alternative solution to the small areas of fake grass within the main hotel grounds. The planting elsewhere across the resort is very beautiful and the fake grass just doesn’t work! We are very much looking forward to returning this June."

"This was our second visit this year and once again had an amazing experience. All the staff are so wonderful which is a real difference maker and makes it such a more relaxing experience. The facilities are fantastic, the villas are spacious, comfortable and have stunning views, they are clean and modern and upkept very well, with stunning views of the sea down the hill. The restaurants are great, offering a really good variety. There are multiple pools and great pool facilities, the bars are really comfortable and great atmosphere, and the beach is a lovely atmosphere with great service too. The kids club is a definite highlight for us and a big part of the reason we will keep coming back, the staff are so lovely and caring and our son has a lovely time there which is so nice, knowing he's happy while we can go and relax a little. Already looking at when we can return next!"

"This is our second visit to the villas as we so enjoyed the first in June 2025. The villas are well equipped, clean & attractively designed. The cleaning staff are excellent & efficient. The villa’s pool was well kept, maintained & a perfect temperature. The level of privacy at the villa is also an attractive feature. The views are spectacular & sunsets amazing. However, it is the excellence of the staff & the good quality food served particularly in Lofus & Vinum. All the staff are friendly & & helpful but in these two restaurants the service is charming & exceptional. Room service is also of good quality. The gourmet restaurant Kamares is an artistic experience in a beautiful setting. Best to book restaurants either before or immediately on arrival to avoid disappointment. There is a what’s app facility to contact staff. You can opt for the bin vivant package but the menu options are shorter I understand. We prefer to keep our options open & dine off the full menus & wine lists, but to each his own! There are plenty of activities if you’re looking for something else to do both within the resort & externally. A vital piece of information is that the beach is sandy but stony on entry. If you have sensitive feet then little sea shoes are an absolute essential. The sea is warm & clear. The buggies are on demand & are comfortable & driven with care. This is imperative as the site is set on a hillside (thus affording the fabulous views) & walking up would be for the very fit ! I can’t fault anything, it ticks all our boxes. There are always minor niggles in any resort holiday, but any request was sorted out pleasantly & swiftly. If you don’t want main road noise best to be on the right hand side looking out from the villa reception. The free transfer is a bonus, but it can be tight on the return journey time wise - the journey is realistically between 90-120 minutes so something to be aware of. We were sorry not to have seen Ioanna Arvanitou except on departure but remember her vividly from our visit in June when she was amazingly helpful & interesting to talk to about the local area. We will be returning in 2026 & hope the costings for early June & mid September 2026 are available soon on the website."
