PB hotel design editorial

Carved into the cliffs above Vroskopos Beach on the island of Kéa — just an hour from Athens yet almost entirely unknown to international tourism — One&Only Kéa Island announced itself in 2024 as one of the most architecturally considered resort arrivals in the Aegean in years. John Heah of London-based Heah & Co handled both architecture and interiors across the 65-hectare estate, producing 63 cliffside villas that descend toward the sea in broad terraced arcs. The massing draws from Cycladic tradition — whitewashed volumes, hand-cut local stone, dry-stacked terracing walls that echo centuries of agricultural landscape — while the curved infinity pools and sweeping plinth edges give the ensemble a sculptural confidence that goes well beyond vernacular pastiche. Inside, Heah resolves the tension between Aegean restraint and contemporary comfort with considerable skill. Barrel-vaulted ceilings open to ribbon skylights that cut shafts of light across walls of veined Greek marble; rich walnut millwork frames openings without competing with the stone; sheer linen curtains soften the threshold between bedroom and private terrace. The dining terrace pairs marble-topped pedestal tables with cane-back chairs against a full-height glazed facade — a composition where the Aegean horizon functions as the dominant decorative element. A three-storey waterfront spa and a collection of Private Homes on the opposite shore of the bay complete an estate that treats Kéa's unspoiled western coastline not as backdrop, but as the primary material.

"This property delivered in a big way and I highly recommend it for couples or families with either young children or adult children (kids in middle would be bored unless you take them out on boat trips each day in my opinion). It is beautifully designed - almost carved into mountains where you feel almost like you are all alone. I imagine many guests never leave their rooms! If you do, the buggies are at the ready to whisk you away. Walking at this resort takes special physical conditioning! The entrance and main bar area and restaurant is simply stunning if you love uninterrupted views of beautiful deep blue water and clear star-filled skies at night. Same holds for the room (we stayed in one of the higher category villas) which was stunning, well laid out and appointed and a terrace with a heated pool and views that went on for miles. The bed was super comfortable and it is so obvious this is a new property (3 years old) because technology well utilized and thought through as part of the room. Service was also just exceptional everywhere - front staff, Ms Christina the hotel manager is a class act, restaurant service (breakfast was uniquely done in diff areas with really warm service) and the main restaurant in particular was wonderful. We ate there twice and enjoyed a special menu they did on Friday night which was really well done. Beach restaurant wasn't our favorite - it was buggy when we went and the servers were more young, male models vs trained waiters and they lit coffee beans in tin cups and the wind brought the burning, noxious fumes into our faces and before we could figure out what was going on, it wrecked dinner. But Ms. Christina was quick to follow up the next day, apologize and say things would be remedied going forwarde (just don't burn aluminum or if you do warn guests so they can move out of the trajectory!). This is not an island to visit for the scene or scenery but this property is worth the trip 100%!"

We had dinner at the Atria restaurant and everything was absolutely delicious. The service was professional yet warm. This place is a paradise on earth. We look forward to coming back!"

"Takes the crown for the most beautiful hotel I have ever been to. The location, the rooms (spectacular), the food and most importantly the staff. Special thanks to Julie, Matthieu, and the great head of the culinary operations Jeremy. The food is fresh and exquisite. The fresh breads in the morning are beyond. The bar had been reset for me."
