PB hotel design editorial

Cascading down a hillside above Agios Ioannis beach on Mykonos's southern coast — the stretch of sand where Shirley Valentine famously lingered — Katikies Mykonos translates the Cycladic vernacular into something closer to a curated residential compound than a conventional hotel. The whitewashed volumes step down the rocky slope in terraced clusters, dry-stone retaining walls threading between them in the local schist that has defined Aegean construction for centuries, the whole arrangement oriented to frame uninterrupted views across the water toward the islet of Delos. The interiors work a disciplined two-tone palette — cobalt blue against chalk white — with a precision that avoids the kitsch this combination so easily invites. Beds upholstered in deep navy leather anchor rooms where every other surface, from the painted timber beam ceilings to the smooth limestone floors, has been held to the same cool white register. Indigo-dyed scatter cushions in a madras check and blue-and-white printed cotton introduce pattern without disturbing the calm. At night, the beach club and restaurant terraces shift register entirely: rattan pendant lanterns suspended from reed-thatched pergolas cast amber pools across teak loungers and sand floors, while arched dining pavilions open to the darkening Aegean. The effect is the carefully tended atmosphere of a private Greek island house, scaled up just enough to function as a hotel.

Katikies Mykonos Reviews

"This is the quintessential “perfect” vacation spot. Not in the middle of the crowd. Not to far from FIRA or OIA with an attentive staff of professionals who cater to your every need. The property is breathtaking. The amenities are plentiful and the location is deal. There is no better place in Santorini."

"Having previously stayed at their sister property in Santorini, which fully deserved its 5-star reputation, we deliberately chose the same suite standard in Mykonos — a suite with a full pool and sea view — expecting a comparable luxury experience. Unfortunately, our stay at Katikies Mykonos was extremely disappointing and nowhere near the standard expected of a 5-star luxury boutique hotel. The most concerning issue was the lack of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the resort. We encountered cockroaches in the main reception area and even in food serving areas, while both pool areas frequently had crisp crumbs, used chewing gum, food remnants, and generally unclean loungers. Adding to this, the cushions from the sun loungers were simply repurposed each evening for seating in the champagne bar, often still damp and covered in sun cream residue — completely unacceptable for a hotel claiming 5-star standards. The suite itself was also poorly maintained. The shower regularly overflowed, and several bathroom fittings were visibly rotting. The hotel advertised a specialty restaurant on both its website and the in-room TV welcome message, yet it remained closed throughout our stay. We emailed multiple times in advance of our stay to book an airport transfer and to make a dinner reservation at the specialty restaurant. Eventually, we did receive a response regarding the transfer, but our request about the restaurant was ignored. It was only when we resorted to calling the hotel that we were informed it would be closed — despite it being actively advertised online and on the in-room TV throughout our stay. In reality, the only dining option available was the pool bar, serving the same very limited menu for both lunch and dinner, with few alternatives nearby. I had also mentioned numerous times prior to arrival that this trip was to celebrate my daughter’s special birthday, including her actual birthday during our stay, yet there was absolutely no acknowledgment from the hotel. Equally disappointing was the complete lack of recognition of our previous stay at their Santorini sister property. The private pool suites offer virtually no privacy, being heavily overlooked, and the overall atmosphere of the resort lacked the exclusivity and luxury expected from the Katikies brand. Finally, the check-out experience summed up the service levels perfectly: staff simply stated the amount due without offering an invoice or even thanking us for our stay, and then proceeded to ask whether we wished to leave a tip despite it being clearly evident from the bill that we had already tipped consistently throughout our stay at every transaction. While the Katikies brand elsewhere does indeed deserve its reputation and all accolades, Katikies Mykonos felt like a 3/4 star property at best. The poor hygiene, inadequate maintenance, lack of service, and misleading advertising cannot be overlooked ."

"The hotel is located in a nice spot on the island and is protected from the winds, there is an easy access to the beach from the hotel but this beach is kind of small. The bus service from the hotel to the city center is pretty convenient. The rooms are spacious, well maintained and clean. The staff were very friendly and took care of our needs."

"This has easily become one of the BEST hotels we have ever stayed at. From the arrival to the departure we had absolutely no issues. They went above and beyond throughout our stay from the turn down service to the daily interactions with staff and the amenities provided were perfect. Highly recommend if you are looking to unplug at a beautiful resort within walking distance of beautiful beaches."

"We loved everything about this property. The two pools were gorgeous with lots of seating and shade. The breakfast was some of the best we've ever had and the level of attention was first class. The room was the best part, very spacious and we had our private little pool and area to lay out and relax. The workout facilities were adequate and overall my location in Mykonos was only 10 minutes from the airport and Mykonos Town. We will definitely stay here again when we return."
