PB hotel design editorial

Cycladic vernacular architecture has been interpreted many times on Mykonos, but rarely with the restraint and material intelligence that defines Kensho Ornos, set above the sheltered bay at Ornos with views stretching across the Aegean toward the island's hillside town. The property works with the island's building tradition rather than simply invoking its aesthetic — whitewashed render over rough-cut local stone walls, barrel-vaulted ceilings left as structural fact rather than decorative gesture, and raw granite boulders incorporated into the landscape as found objects rather than arranged as scenery. At the entrance, a single piece of driftwood, floor to ceiling, flanks the glass threshold — an instinct that runs through the whole property: natural material placed with precision against clean geometry. The interiors move between two registers depending on room type. Cave-like suites carved into the hillside feature polished concrete floors, exposed masonry headboards whitewashed flush with the plaster, and Secto-style wall sconces providing the only counterpoint to the monastic quiet. Upper rooms take a more contemporary approach — bleached timber ceiling beams, hanging egg chairs, and live-edge walnut headboards against mirror panels — a tone closer to considered Scandinavian minimalism than to Aegean tradition. The pool terrace, paved in pale limestone with teak decking and oversized white shade structures, frames the bay with the unselfconscious confidence of somewhere that knows the view will do most of the work.

"AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE - THE BEST 5-STAR BOUTIQUE HOTEL WE HAVE EVER STAYED IN It is genuinely difficult to put into words just how special our stay at Kove Hotel Mykonos was. After more than 20 years of travelling and consistently staying in five-star hotels around the world, I can confidently say that the level of genuine care, warmth and guest service we experienced at Kove was unlike anything we have experienced before. This is not simply a beautiful five-star boutique hotel. Kove feels like a home away from home. From the moment we arrived, there was a warmth and personal touch that made us feel less like hotel guests and more like we were being welcomed into someone’s home. A huge part of what made our stay so unforgettable was Nancy, the Restaurant Manager. Nancy is truly exceptional and one of those very rare people you meet while travelling who becomes part of the memory of the holiday itself. Her warmth, kindness, care and attention made us feel as though we were staying with family. Nothing ever felt forced or simply part of her job, her hospitality came from the heart. She remembered the little things, genuinely cared whether we were happy and made every breakfast and dinner feel special. Quite simply, our stay at Kove would not have been the same without Nancy’s presence. The restaurant itself deserves enormous praise. The food was absolutely delicious and, for us, it was the best breakfast and dinner experience we had in Mykonos. The quality of the food, the presentation, the atmosphere and especially the service were outstanding. Even if you are not staying at Kove, I would highly recommend visiting the hotel restaurant for lunch or dinner. It is an experience in itself and one we looked forward to every day. We must also give a very special mention to Andreas and Poliana at reception, who were absolutely incredible throughout our stay. They went above and beyond for us time and time again. Whatever we needed, they never seemed to say no. Instead, they did everything within their power to find a solution and make sure we were happy and completely satisfied with every aspect of our holiday. That level of flexibility, patience and exceptional customer service is increasingly rare, even amongst five-star hotels. At Kove, it seemed to come naturally. What makes this hotel so special is that luxury here isn’t simply about beautiful surroundings or five-star facilities. The real luxury is the people. It is being remembered, being cared for, being listened to and feeling that the people looking after you genuinely want your holiday to be perfect. By the end of our stay, we genuinely did not want to leave. Saying goodbye was far more difficult than we ever expected because it felt like we were saying goodbye to people who had become part of our Mykonos experience rather than simply leaving a hotel. Looking back, we genuinely believe that our holiday would not have been the same had we chosen to stay anywhere else. After 20 years of staying in five-star hotels, I can say without hesitation that Kove Hotel Mykonos is the best five-star boutique hotel I have stayed in and one of the finest guest-service experiences I have ever received anywhere. There are hotels you enjoy, hotels you recommend and hotels you remember. Kove is a hotel we will never forget. To Nancy, thank you for treating us with such extraordinary warmth and making us feel like family. You were such an important part of our experience, and Kove simply would not have been the same for us without you. To Andreas and Poliana, thank you for your patience, kindness, flexibility and for constantly going above and beyond to make our stay perfect. And to the entire Kove team, thank you for giving us a hotel experience we never expected and will always remember. We arrived as guests and somehow left feeling as though we were saying goodbye to family. Kove Hotel Mykonos is a true hidden gem and an exceptional example of what genuine five-star hospitality should be. Without hesitation, 10/10 and highly recommended. We cannot wait to return."

"Stayed ten nights at this beatuiful boutique hotel in Mykonos . I cannot fault the customer service the staff could not do enough to help you. Shout out to all the reception team who booked everything up we required , Boat trip restaurants etc .. Nancy at breakfast was just lovely and I probably had the best massage of my life with Polychronia in the spa and a nice facial Great location in Ornos not far from Mykonos town, we had a driver George who was always available to take us whenever we wanted which was important as taxis hard to get in Mykonos Stunning room with own private pool. So clean . Turn down service every day . Mini bar /tea coffee etc Breakfast was an amazing buffet , I will miss the local yoghurt and honey . We only had dinner in the hotel the first night but it was lovely Pool area not huge but always easy to get a sunbed and fairly peaceful You have use of 2 of the beach clubs ( 5 mins walk ) with free beds /towels Mykonos is a busy party island and as we are in our 60s it felt like a peaceful haven to retreat to . I cannot recommend this hotel and its staff enough"

"A Truly Exceptional Stay at Kove Hotel Mykonos From the moment we arrived at Kove Hotel, we felt completely cared for. The staff have been nothing short of wonderful attentive, professional, friendly, and always going above and beyond to make our stay special. A heartfelt thank‑you to Nancy, Sofia, and Panos., who made us feel not just welcomed, but genuinely looked after. The hotel itself is spotlessly clean and has a calming, zen‑like atmosphere that makes it incredibly easy to unwind. With only 35 rooms, it feels intimate, boutique, and almost spa‑like a perfect escape from the busier parts of Mykonos. Our room was spacious, immaculate, and fully stocked, offering everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The location is also fantastic: just a 5‑minute walk to the beach, making it ideal for anyone who wants easy access without the crowds. The pool area, though small, is beautifully designed and adds to the hotel’s serene vibe. It’s a lovely spot to relax, read, or enjoy a quiet moment in the sun. The reception staff were outstanding throughout our stay. From the moment we checked in, they were incredibly helpful, organised, and proactive, making everything effortless for us. They handled restaurant bookings, arranged taxis, and even secured sunbed reservations at the beach, all with genuine warmth and efficiency. Their support made our trip feel seamless and truly stress‑free. Overall, Kove Hotel exceeded our expectations in every way. If you’re looking for a peaceful, beautifully maintained boutique hotel with exceptional service, this is the place."
