PB hotel design editorial

Cascading down a hillside above Megali Ammos beach, its whitewashed cubic volumes stacked in deliberate conversation with the Cycladic vernacular visible across the bay toward Mykonos Town, the Myconian Korali Hotel makes its strongest argument through siting. The property is part of the Myconian Collection, the family-owned portfolio that has shaped the upper end of the island's hospitality offer for decades, and the architectural language here draws faithfully from that group's house approach — flat-roofed white plaster volumes, dry-stone retaining walls, and tiered terraces that dissolve the boundary between building and landscape. Private plunge pools slot between whitewashed fins in a geometry that gives each villa-category room its own framed view of the Aegean, the distant silhouette of Delos barely visible on clear mornings. Inside, the interiors move between two registers. Standard rooms keep things light and direct — grey porcelain tile floors, striped wool rugs, walnut-framed mirrors, and low lounge chairs in dusty yellow and powder blue that give the space the feeling of a well-edited summer apartment rather than hotel furniture. The upper-category rooms shift warmer, with slatted timber ceiling panels and deeply scored geometric headboard walls in natural oak. The restaurant, by contrast, reaches for more drama: branching Heracleum-style chandeliers by Moooi cluster above round tables dressed in white linen, the floor-to-ceiling glazing pulling the Aegean panorama fully into the room.

"Amazing experience! The staff are incredible and so attentive. Everywhere is immaculately clean and the food/drink was great. Will definitely be back!"

"We stayed in May and loved our time at the hotel. Pickup from Ferry Port was easy to arrange, on time, friendly and comfortable. Check-in was very friendly and efficient, and the team was all very smiley and friendly. We had bid in advance for an upgrade, but on arrival, we had been upgraded further to a huge suite. This was a massive surprise, and we were very blown away with how lovely it all was. We had Armonia suite with a lounge, two bathrooms, and a huge terrace. The bed was super comfortable, and we had superb sleeps. The hot tub reset itself on day 2, and we had to report it. It again lost pressure and warmth (just as we needed it as the weather had turned a touch cloudy) so this was a shame as we had specifically wanted a warm jacuzzi in the event of inclement weather. We had a turndown, which was lovely to come back to. Food and drink Breakfast was superb. The best Greek yoghurt ajd honey i have ever had. Beautiful smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Pastries, meats cheeses and bread along with bacon mushrooms, etc. Everything you could need. We dined at Noa at Kyma on the first evening. The first impressions were it was a touch on the expensive side. Food was delicious (taramasalata and open pie being particularly good). The portions were big, so they probably could have shared a starter, and this did make the prices justifiable. Pools. We did both pools at Kyma ahd Korali. I preferred the Kyma pool. Has a jacuzzi, long pool, and side pool. Felt more like you could enjoy yourself there, whereas the korali pool felt a little stilted. Why the hotel doesn't get 5 stars Pool/dining service. There's clearly a hierarchy, some girls are only allowed to plump cushions and maybe fetch water, others are allowed to take drink orders, I think give everyone some autonomy. If you're asking them to walk round checking on guests, give them the ability to take orders! Pool area at korali was overly fussy. Considering it was windy, they persevered with cotton napkins and drinks mats. If you just wanted a drink, they removed everything else from the table only to put it back again. This is clearly a management specification, but it doesn't make you feel like popping to the bar for a drink to get away from the bed/sun. The setup at kyma was a touch more practical for this, and I felt far more relaxed there. Same with breakfast service. Junior members were allowed to pour water and coffee. Other orders were taken by middle ranking employees. The last breakfast service was chaos due to the rain and everyone descending at the same time. One of the managers took our drinks order then nothing appeared and we asked another member of staff. No major issue, but perhaps less faffing and refine the ordering system. Potentially, it was due to it being early season. The other huge gripe is QR code for the menu. So for instance, you look at one menu for food, one for snacks/beer, and the wine is on a totally separate menu. I dont want to be wedded to my phone. I want to see a pool menu that has snacks and a selection of drinks. I would also like to see a carafe of local wine being made available. I understand this is to prevent printed menus and aid sustainability, but one menu or iPad nearby should do the trick. Overall I think the staff all work incredibly hard, they are all friendly and want to help. They have to put up with quite a lot of entitled and rude behaviour and they do so with grace. Thank you all."

"Beautiful complex of 3 interconnected hotels. You can use facilities at any of the 3. The style is modern. I had a large well-appointed room with a balcony and lovely view of the bay. The room had a lot of storage space with shelves and drawers. I loved the strong rain head shower. Some units had private unheated infinity pools (not mine). The grounds are lovely. The breakfast buffet was fabulous. To top it off, the service was outstanding. The only downside is that it is not an easy walk from the hotel into Mykonos Town, due to steep, winding, indirect roads. It is not "steps away" from town as claimed on the web site. They do not provide shuttle service. You need a taxi or rental car or motorbike."

"Disappointed to say the least. Separates rooms from kids, but given an “upgrade” to compensate…kid’s view was of a wall and our view was cut off by a wall. The breakfast was the exact same every day - no variation. The room cleaning was horrible…one robe, not replacing towels, NEVER replaced the water, took toiletries even though clearly in use, left empty wine bottles and used glasses, did not replace toiletries taken… The staff at the pool was good…I give them kudos. That’s it…save yourself the aggravation and expense…do not book travel here and I have NO idea how it got an award."

"This hotel absolutely does NOT deserve five stars. I honestly question how this so-called luxury hotel is even listed under RELAIS & CHATEAUX . From the moment we arrived until the day we left, the entire experience was a complete disaster. First of all, the hotel completely messed up our luggage situation. When we arrived, they initially acted as if our suitcase had gone missing. Nobody seemed to know where it was, and no one took responsibility. The strange part is that after we had already checked in to the room finally with the our luggage. in our possession the reception suddenly called our room saying that “our suitcase would arrive shortly.” Naturally, I asked: “Which suitcase? We already have our luggage. At that point it honestly sounded like they were about to send someone else’s suitcase to our room. Extremely strange and unprofessional. Clearly, this hotel has serious issues when it comes to handling guests’ luggage. Customer service in general was beyond terrible. Whenever you make a complaint, nobody replies to your emails. Funny enough, if it’s about airport transfers or extra charges, they answer immediately. Trying to speak to the hotel manager was impossible. We were constantly told someone would call us back, but of course nobody ever did. The staff seemed unmotivated, unprofessional, and annoyed whenever guests asked for anything. The room itself was extremely disappointing and completely run-down for a supposed 5-star property. The mirrors were dirty, housekeeping was careless, and the shower leaked every single time we used it, flooding the bathroom floor. It honestly felt more like a cheap old hotel than a luxury resort in Mykonos. Breakfast service was another joke. Asking for something as simple as a slice of lemon for tea required asking five or six times before anyone finally brought it. Everything took forever, even basic requests. Overall, this was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had. Completely overpriced, badly managed, and absolutely nowhere near 5-star standard. I would never stay here again and definitely would not recommend it to anyone."
