PB hotel design editorial

Sitting above the arc of Megali Ammos beach, where the hillside drops toward one of Mykonos Town's closest stretches of sand, Myconian Kyma belongs to the Design Hotels collection and carries the considered ambition that membership implies. The architecture follows the Cycladic vernacular without being enslaved to it — whitewashed volumes, raw stone retaining walls, and pergola structures with tensile shade sails replace the usual fussiness of resort kitsch with something closer to an elevated private compound. The pool terrace at dusk, lit from beneath the water, arranges itself against the island skyline with the ease of a property that understands its site. Inside, the interiors navigate two distinct registers. Some rooms lean into a clean, almost Nordic-Aegean fusion — sculpted honeycomb headboards in white plaster, mustard occasional chairs, white-painted timber floors and globe pendants that keep things light and unencumbered. Others shift warmer, with cork-toned wall panels framing large-format botanical murals, woven rope sofas upholstered in Aegean teal, and Missoni-pattern drum floor lamps providing a flash of Italian textile confidence. The restaurant pulls both threads together: chartreuse banquette seating and sculptural branching timber ceiling installations set against exposed island stone walls, floor-to-ceiling glazing framing Delos on the horizon. The overall effect is a property that treats the Cycladic landscape as collaborator rather than backdrop.

"This hotel is wonderful - we visited at the end of season in October but it was still very welcoming and a great experience. Staff looked after us very well. Rooms are amazingly clean and well maintained and the view from our room was beautiful. On the last day we ate breakfast in the sister hotel which was lovely too. The pool is gorgeous and the weather was still fab in October."

"First of all I have stayed Kyma many times before and everything has been perfect in previous years. I have also previously stayed at sister properties Korali and Naia. Before arriving at Kyma this summer I also stayed at another Mykonian Collection hotel Utopia overlooking Elia beach. I’ll start on a positive note with the good things…. A lovely warm welcome from POPPI and CHRISTINA on the front desk. Very nice spotlessly clean room with a partial sea view, with the most comfortable bed. Housekeeping kept the room spotless for my entire stay. Chef PANAGIOTIS continually produces food of the highest standard and quality. Fantastic breakfast buffet that has everything. Restaurant NOA has an excellent menu and the food is delicious. Fine dining restaurant BAOS at Korali really is fine dining, producing amazing flavoursome dishes with such attention to detail and presentation of the highest level. Service also at BAOS was very good, especially Maria who had excellent customer service skills. The 2 young bell boys ACHEALIS and KONSTANTINOS were the best. A mention for one other member of staff…… NIKOS the bartender at Noa/Kyma in the evenings was brilliant and so professional. He was the complete opposite of the girl bartender at Naia in the evenings, she was so unfriendly and again obviously didn’t want to be there. With this kind of customer service I didn’t want to be there either, hence why it was so much nicer to have a pre dinner drink at NOA. Now with the things that disappointed me this year. At Kyma and Korali, Pommery Champagne at €40 a glass is unacceptable, especially when most of if not all the other Mykonian properties offer an equally good premium champagne in Veuve Clicquot at €27 a glass (€13 less!), and they also offer a less premium option in Piper at €20 a glass……I enjoyed both during my stay at Utopia. I was told that Pommery is more premium than Veuve Clicquot…… this is rubbish, and in my opinion Veuve Clicquot is a better champagne, but for arguments sake let’s just say they are equal yet there is a €13 difference!! The breakfast service at Kyma was so bad this year and it wasn’t much better in the evening at NOA. It was really disastrous, with so many of the girls so unfriendly and looking like they really didn’t want to be there. Trying to get their attention was a real challenge. One morning my table wasn’t even wiped down from the previous guests…. the plates etc were just cleared away and then my cutlery was laid! However there were one or two staff that tried to safe the day……manager KALI as usual was excellent, and KOSTAS always served the coffees with a smile and a good morning. There were 1 or 2 other girls that did try hard but I forget their names. If I visit again next summer I do hope the service will be better."

"Stunning design hotel with spectacular views of the sea and Mykonos town. Service from the moment we arrived throughout our week long stay was some of the best service we have received. Hotel is small yet so much space to relax and chill out. You are able to visit the neighbouring hotel which equally has the same qualities and experiences"
