PB hotel design editorial

Agios Ioannis beach on Mykonos's southwestern shore was already fixed in cultural memory — this is where Shirley Valentine waded into the Aegean — when the Mykonos Grand Hotel & Resort was established here in the 1990s, pressing its whitewashed Cycladic volumes into the hillside above one of the island's most cinematic stretches of coastline. The architecture follows the vernacular with genuine conviction: rounded archways, asymmetric stair-step massing, smooth limewashed walls punctuated by small windows, and native granite boulders left in place among the drought-tolerant planting of the courtyard gardens. Nothing about the exterior gestures toward the contemporary hospitality vernacular — it carries the feeling of a Mykonian village assembled at the water's edge. A recent renovation has drawn the interiors into a more deliberate dialogue between Aegean tradition and polished resort design. Guest rooms layer Carrara marble vanity slabs and freestanding oval soaking tubs against sky-washed ceilings in pale Aegean blue, with linen curtains billowing at arched French doors. The suites step further — canopy frames draped in indigo fabric, low stone fireplaces, and Paros-style pale stone floors extending seamlessly onto terraces where the Aegean fills the entire frame. The bar is the boldest move: a cobalt-lacquered ceiling hung with a cascading chandelier of amber and clear glass spheres, the whole composition opening through a colonnade directly onto the sunset horizon. The circular infinity pool, with its teak island platform and brass canopy rail, anchors the seaward terrace with an almost nautical precision.

About

Dazzling whitewashed, cube-shaped buildings and cobbled paths set against the backdrop of a deep blue sea and sky, Mykonos Grand Hotel & Resort has a superb beachfront location barely 3 miles from Mykonos town. Opposite is the sacred island of Delos, the birthplace of Apollo. Scattered across an extensive 5 acres to provide space and privacy, the 96 generously-sized rooms and suites are decorated in bright white with splashes of blue, some with private pools. Furniture and decorative lighting is elegant and streamlined, recalling mid-twentieth century styling. This restful enclave has a pampering spa which offers a variety of natural treatments based on traditional Greek techniques, a 500sqm swimming pool and a spectacular outdoor amphitheater for exercise classes. The hotel’s Nama Restaurant is roomy, allowing for the generous spacing of tables inside and extensive al fresco dining and offers, breath taking views across the Aegean Sea. There is also a Wine Cellar with a wide range of excellent Greek and international wines. Other resort’s facilities include tennis and a Technogym fitness center.

"We first experienced the special social and soothing qualities of the “ MGH” 12 years ago, returned the following year and now this year. We’ve toured the world, been in some fabulously perfect 5 star hotels, but they’re simply NOT the complete joy of staying in this wonderfulHotel. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Wonderful ethos running through the hotel from the owner to the pool staff, porters, cleaners and maintenance team. The barman is a bit special too! This team will wrap you up in care, love, warmth and humour with amazing professionalism. Nothing is too much !! Please give them a go and be as blessed as we have been to call them our best friends in Greece. Our catch phrase is “Only in the Mykonos Grand”, A staggering joy of a high end hotel..:. Booking next year already, before we fly out . Tay LeMare Matah❤️"

"The Mykonos Grand Hotel and Spa is an amazing choice for a relaxing holiday but still being able to enjoy Mykonos Town, We arrived late in the evening but were still welcomed with a drink and sweet treats whilst the amenities of the hotel were explained, The rooms are beautifully appointed with a terrace and separate bath and shower. Immaculatey clean with nightly turn down where each evening a handy different gift was left, luggage strap, torch, etc. Breakfast was a delight with an incredible buffet and also a la carte options. A big Thankyou to the breakfast team for looking after us. Another big plus about this hotel is the beautiful and relaxing beach area where Fotis ensured we had our sunbeds and always had a lovely smile and welcome for us. The hotel also provides a complementary shuttle service to and from Mykonos town. Theo, our driver was always waiting with a smile and a great fountain of knowledge on Greece. What sets this hotel apart from others though is the amazing team who look after you, always with a smile, creating a wonderful atmosphere. Themis, in particular, is an amazing asset remembering everyone’s name and going out of his way with his help and kindness, nothing was ever too much trouble for him. We’ve had the most amazing family holiday and cannot wait to return. Thankyou Mykonos Grand Family."

"Our stay at Mykonos Grand Hotel & Resort was an excellent experience from start to finish. The professionalism of the team showed even before arrival, with prompt and helpful communication from the reservations staff. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted and personally assisted with arranging our stay and receiving thoughtful recommendations for exploring Mykonos over the coming days. The facilities are top-class. We especially appreciated the two seawater pools — one reserved for adults, one open to all — both kept at the perfect temperature. The bars and lounge areas are stylish and inviting, making it easy to relax throughout the day. Our room was also a highlight: upgraded to a Junior Suite, we enjoyed a spacious, modern space with a wonderful sea view and even the luxury of a private steam bath. Every detail, from the furnishings to the amenities, reflected high quality and comfort. Breakfast deserves a special mention, offering a well-stocked buffet alongside a generous à la carte menu with a wide variety of options. The staff throughout the hotel were consistently attentive, friendly, and professional, always going the extra mile to make our stay enjoyable. While the hotel’s private beach is a smaller stretch and the windy conditions kept us from swimming during our stay, the pools more than compensated — even for someone like us who usually prefers the beach. Finally, the location of the hotel is ideal: close enough to easily reach Mykonos Town and other attractions, yet positioned so that entering and leaving by car avoids the island’s heaviest traffic. Overall, Mykonos Grand combines luxury, convenience, and warm hospitality in a way that makes it truly stand out. We would gladly return and can highly recommend it."
