PB hotel design editorial

Perched on a raw volcanic headland at Paralia Merchias, where Mykonian rock drops in jagged shelves directly into the Aegean, the architecture of Semeli Coast Mykonos works through a problem that most Cycladic resorts avoid entirely: how to build a village-scale compound on terrain that resists domestication. The answer, visible in the aerial view, is dispersal — white cubic volumes cascading down the promontory in stepped clusters, separated by dry-stone retaining walls built from the island's own dark schist, each unit claiming its own plunge pool and sightline to open water. The interiors navigate a similar tension between vernacular warmth and contemporary restraint. Whitewashed beam ceilings, a direct citation of traditional Mykonian farmhouse construction, run across rooms whose furnishings are otherwise emphatically spare — upholstered window benches in off-white linen, warm oak millwork with slatted cabinet fronts, pendant lights in woven rattan and hammered metal hanging asymmetrically beside concrete-plastered headboards. Dark slate-effect floor tiles anchor rooms that might otherwise feel too pale against the bleached landscape outside. At the pool bar, a steel-framed pergola structure with retractable timber louvres frames the social core of the property, rattan pendant clusters overhead and a stone-backed bar visible through open glazing — the effect closer to a considered private residence than a resort amenity, which is precisely the register this corner of Mykonos has always demanded.

"Our family had an incredible 4-night stay at Semeli Coast Mykonos. From the moment we arrived until the day we left, the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Every member of the team was genuinely warm, friendly, and always eager to help with anything we needed. Special shout out to Sofia/Mina/Elani for literally answering our requests instantly and running to make sure everything is beyond perfect! Thank you! and the drivers were amazing with complimentary airport transfers- giorgios and makkis thank you! Traveling with children can sometimes be challenging, but the hotel is exceptionally kid-friendly and incredibly accommodating. The staff made our family feel comfortable throughout our stay, which made for a truly relaxing vacation. The rooms were spotless, beautifully maintained, and cleaned to a very high standard every day. The pools are absolutely stunning—clean, spacious, and the perfect place to unwind while the kids had an amazing time. If you're looking for a hotel in Mykonos with outstanding hospitality, immaculate rooms, fantastic pools, and a team that truly cares about its guests, I can't recommend Semeli Coast Mykonos highly enough. We had a wonderful stay and would gladly return!"

"I don't even know where to begin as I travel a lot but have never ever stayed anywhere like the Semeli Coast Hotel. Everything and I truly mean everything from the communication with the hotel staff, to check in with the fresh lemonade and hand made cookies, to the immaculate cleanliness of the property, free upgrade to a villa (I traveled as a family with 5 kids), private beach on property, complimentary bottles of water and white wine in room, delicious breakfast and transport to and from the main areas/beaches of Mykonos. Sofia ( 5 thumbs up!!!) from the reception has made our stay extra special from the moment we have walked inside the hotel; she has made sure that me, my husband and our 5 kids felt extra welcome on the property and well never forget her. We will never forget our stay at Semeli Coast hotel. 5 STAR hotel hands down!!!!"

"Pros: Semeli has the best location, and the staff were amazing. Celine, Yannis, the gentleman from Senegal (I'm so sorry, I forgot his name), the cleaning staff and everyone else were incredibly kind and welcoming. The room was clean, and I loved the little walkway outside the rooms with all the beautiful flowers and greenery. The breakfast was also excellent. Cons: The room itself was nice, but I was surprised by two things: The duvet didn't have a duvet cover. We mentioned this to the staff, but nothing was done about it. I find it hard to believe that the duvets are washed after every guest, which raises concerns about hygiene. We used the drinking glasses in our room one evening. After housekeeping cleaned the room the next day, the glasses had been put back, but they still smelled like the drinks we had the night before. This made it seem as though they had only been rinsed with water instead of properly washed before being returned. Overall we had a nice stay"

"From the moment we arrived until we left, the amazing staff were hospitable and so helpful. The setting is very peaceful and atmosphere chilled, perfect for a relaxing holiday. Our very comfortable, impeccably clean, spacious suite had everything we needed and more, and a beautiful view of the coast. The concierge team were knowledgeable and keen to help in anyway they could. Breakfast was a delicious fresh feast, carefully prepared and served by dedicated genial staff. For dinner there was a good choice of excellent dishes, including vegetarian options, again the staff were first class. The beach tavern served a selection of lunches, brought to us as we enjoyed relaxing by sea and coastline. Nothing was too much trouble, golf carts were available on request to take us to the beach and a shuttle bus dropped us off and collected us from Mykonos town when we fancied a night out. We would love to return"
