PB hotel design editorial

What the Athens studio Interior Design Laboratorium did at Parīlio was essentially an act of architectural subtraction: taking a sprawling 1980s resort complex near Naoussa on Paros and stripping it back to something that feels genuinely Cycladic, not decoratively so. Design director Stamos Hondrodimos and lead designer Fragkiskos Sarris reduced 55 rooms across six buildings into 33 suites spread over seven acres, the lower room count giving the site room to breathe. The signature arched threshold visible from the pool terrace, framed by two tall Norfolk pines whose shadows animate the whitewashed walls through the afternoon, captures the project's central instinct: formal geometry softened by the specificity of place. Inside, the palette holds to sand, warm taupe, and terracotta, with limestone-tiled floors and bespoke furniture produced by the same studio that designed the building. Handwoven textile wall hangings in each room, abstract and linen-ground, bring in a craft note without folklore. The outdoor dining terrace is floored in a herringbone terracotta tile that plays against the mountain backdrop beyond, teak chairs in a profile close to Hans Wegner's Round Chair giving the space an ease that sits comfortably between the vernacular and the contemporary. Large boulders integrated into the pool deck, left exactly where the original landscape placed them, are the most telling detail: evidence that the design worked with the island's grain rather than over it.
