PB hotel design editorial

Cycladic vernacular architecture has always rested on two gestures — the whitewashed cube and the rough-cut stone wall — and the design of Summer Senses Luxury Resort on Paros's Punda Beach presses both into service with unusual discipline. The property cascades down a hillside above the Aegean in a series of two-storey white render volumes whose clean cubic massing is anchored at ground level by dry-stone boundary walls and structural piers in local schist, the same warm ochre and grey stone that terraces the surrounding scrubland. Native maquis planting and white gravel paths thread between the units, softening what might otherwise read as a development and pulling the landscape into the architecture rather than surrounding it. The interiors carry that same restraint indoors, where slatted white-painted ceilings borrow their rhythm from traditional Cycladic boat-timber construction and give each room a domestic rather than institutional ceiling. Headboards arrive in reeded rattan or striped upholstery panels in tonal blues and stone, teal cushions and navy throws pulling the sea palette in without forcing it. Woven-cord dining chairs and reed-panelled pergola ceilings furnish the terrace restaurant, which frames an unobstructed view toward the water through schist piers that mirror the external stonework. At dusk, the infinity pool holds the last of the Aegean light, the harbour below and the silhouette of a neighbouring island settling into the horizon behind it.

"We came as a family — my wife, our two children, and my brother's family in the suite right next to ours — and I can say without hesitation it was one of the most relaxing holidays we've had together. Travelling with kids is never simple, but here everything was made effortless. We stayed in a Senses Suite and it was perfect for us. Spacious, beautifully kept, with more than enough room for the children to spread out and for the adults to actually unwind. Having my brother's family right next door meant the cousins could run between rooms while we enjoyed a quiet coffee on the terrace. The housekeeping was flawless — every day the suite was reset to perfection, and they were so gentle and discreet around the little ones. The staff genuinely loved the children. **Maria** from guest relations went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed for the kids, down to the smallest detail. At the bar, **Georgios** even made the children their own special "cocktails" without alcohol, and you should have seen their faces. This is a place built for families who want to relax without compromise. We left rested, the kids left happy, and we're already planning next year. Thank you for taking such good care of all of us."

"There are trips you forget the moment you get home, and there are the ones that become part of you. This one belongs firmly in the second category. I travelled here with a friend for a short break, and it exceeded every expectation we had. I'll be honest: I stay in a lot of hotels, and most are "fine." Good bed, clean bathroom, polite staff — the basics. This was an entirely different story. Here, hospitality isn't a service; it's an attitude. You felt it in every corner, every smile, every "good morning" that was real rather than routine. Our room became our little nest. Comfortable, spotless, cared for with a level of detail only people who love their work can achieve. Every day some small touch reminded us that someone genuinely cared. On the food, I'll admit I was completely won over. I have a soft spot for good cooking and here I ate beautifully. Dinner at the hotel restaurant was a meal I'll remember for years, and the chef surprised us with every course. At the bar, **Aphrodite** told us stories while she prepared our drinks, and it became the highlight of our evenings. If someone asked me what sets this place apart, I wouldn't say the room, or the food, or the pool — though all were excellent. I'd say the people. Because in the end they're what turns a lovely hotel into an unforgettable experience. We left with heavy hearts and full smiles, and one thing is certain: we'll be back. Thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts."

"I've travelled a fair bit, but I rarely feel the need to sit down and write a review with this much gratitude. A couple of friends and I booked a few days here on a whim, and it turned into one of the most beautiful little holidays we've had together. Let me start with the thing that matters most to me: professionalism paired with genuine human warmth. When we asked about excursions in the area, **Iakovos**, the concierge, sat down with us and built an entire itinerary of suggestions — places we'd never have found on our own. That kind of care can't be bought; it comes from real passion for the work. Our room was our sanctuary. Clean down to the last corner, always tidy, with that fresh scent that greets you every time you open the door. The housekeeping team deserves a special mention — the rooms were kept to a standard that genuinely made us appreciate the effort behind every detail. The dining was dazzling. At the main restaurant, **Berlinda**, the captain, remembered even our small preferences from the day before — how I take my coffee, what one of my friends doesn't eat. That kind of personal attention is rare. The kitchen sent out plates that left us silent with pleasure. What moved me most was that the same language was spoken everywhere — from reception to the kitchen — true hospitality. Everyone worked toward the same thing: making us feel special. And they more than succeeded. We've already promised ourselves we'll return."

"I came here with two close friends for a long-overdue getaway, and honestly we're still talking about it weeks later. From the moment we walked in, the welcome set the tone. The team at reception checked us in with such warmth that it felt less like arriving at a hotel and more like being expected by old friends. When we had a question about the room, **Ioanna** from the front office came by personally to make sure everything was perfect. That kind of attention tells you everything about a place. The room was immaculate. Every single day we'd come back from breakfast to find it spotless, beds made to perfection, our little things tidied with real care. One afternoon I left a bracelet on the nightstand and that evening found it placed neatly on the pillow. It's those small gestures that stay with you. The food deserves its own paragraph. We ate like queens. Dinner at the hotel's signature restaurant was one of the best meals any of us had had in years, and the kitchen clearly works with soul. The bar became our nightly ritual too — **Angelos** made cocktails that we genuinely looked forward to all day. This isn't just a beautiful hotel. It's people who care, details that show love, and a sense of being truly looked after. We left already planning to come back. Thank you for everything"

"What should have been a relaxing hotel stay turned into one of the most unpleasant hospitality experiences I’ve ever had. The most ridiculous part of the stay was being told we were not allowed to order from the room service menu while sitting at a table in the hotel restaurant — despite the food coming from the exact same kitchen, and despite the restaurant being almost completely empty. Instead of handling the request professionally or with any flexibility, both the hotel manager and reception manager responded with sarcasm, rudeness, and a completely dismissive attitude. It was honestly shocking to witness management behave in such an unwelcoming and arrogant manner toward paying guests. What makes this even more disappointing is that many of the other staff members were absolutely lovely — warm, polite, and clearly embarrassed by the behaviour of management. Several employees showed genuine kindness and professionalism, which unfortunately was completely overshadowed by the attitude at the top. A hotel is defined by how guests are treated, and in this case the management made the entire stay feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Overall, this was a dreadful experience and I would strongly warn others against booking this hotel. There are far better places to stay where guests are treated with basic respect and courtesy."
