PB hotel design editorial

Raw volcanic terrain on Santorini's northern tip, where the caldera's drama gives way to quieter hillside scrub above Oia, provided the canvas for Andronis Arcadia — a property that deliberately turns its back on the island's signature cave-cut whitewash in favour of something earthier and more considered. The architecture works in horizontal planes of board-formed concrete and rough render, terracing down the hillside in a sequence of low-slung volumes that draw more from Aegean vernacular mass than from postcard iconography. The palette throughout — warm grey concrete, raw timber columns, pampas grass planted along rooflines — keeps the building in conversation with the volcanic landscape rather than competing with it. Inside, the rooms carry the same logic: polished concrete floors, low platform beds on dark stained timber plinths, woven rattan pendant chairs, and handwoven basket-weave wall pieces that give each space the texture of a well-travelled private house. The headboards, panelled in natural rush matting set above geometric hand-painted tilework, suggest a Cycladic sensibility filtered through something closer to Tulum than Fira. The restaurant continues this thread with raw log columns, reed-ceiling panels, and oversized raffia pendant lights that would not look out of place at a Balinese open-air pavilion — a deliberately warm counterpoint to the polished infinity pool terrace, where teak-framed daybeds face a sunset view across to the silhouette of Thirassia.

"The location of this hotel is superb. Five minutes walk from the bus station to go anywhere on the island (need to go into Fira first) Five minutes walk into Oia too. The views are outstanding from everywhere on the property and the sunset views are superb too. If you struggle with walking it could be a bit of a climb from your room to the road but there are golf carts that will pick you up and take you there free of charge. The atmosphere is very chilled and literally nothing is too much trouble for the staff. There are a lot of staff and we never found anyone who wasn’t respectful, polite, cheerful and helpful. Thank you all. The food is very good. The breakfast has anything you might want and we enjoyed it all including peach Bellinis - we are on holiday after all! We tried Pac-Man restaurant and Beefbar and both were excellent on each occasion. All in all it’s a fabulous hotel with excellent food and an amazing staff. Thank you so much for giving us a superb holiday experience."

"Our family LOVED our 3-night stay in the 3-bedroom villa! The rooms were beautiful, and all of the staff were accommodating and wonderful from the bellhops to pool staff to servers. From the beginning, Nole helped us finalize our plans for our stay in Santorini. We had some activities (boat cruise and Fira to Oia hike) and restaurants planned in advance, but he and the rest of the staff booked timely and clean transportation and everything in between. The hotel is a very short walk (maybe 5-15 minutes) from the center of Oia, and on a day when the weather wasn’t nice enough to lay at the pool or get on a boat, they booked us the best car tour of Santorini with a hotel partner and driver Angel. The breakfast is amazing (create your own omelette!), and lunch and drinks by the pool were convenient and delicious. The sunset view from our room, the pool, and the restaurants was unbeatable. Highly recommend this hotel. Nothing short of amazing."

"This is one of the best hotels we have ever visited. Truly exceptional. The staff is incredible. Check in was fast and efficient and they upgraded us with our Amex Platinum. The room was incredible, spotlessly clean with an amazing view and our own pool. It was the most comfortable sleep I have had in years. The bed was perfect, pillows were perfect and it was super dark with a roller shade that made the room pitch black. The air conditioning was down to 68 and we slept like kings. The breakfast at Pac-Man was second to none. The view from Pac-Man is incredible and the staff was very attentive with smiles and welcomed us with friendly smiles every morning. The spa was incredible. The massage was excellent and we both left feeling so relaxed. For the location, you need to know that the view is NOT of the Caldera. It has beautiful ocean views but of the other side. You are walking distance like 7 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Oía. This is a good thing bc there are SO many tourists and cruise ships and it gets PACKED and this is not even prime summer season. I can’t even imagine what Oía is like in July. It must be a mess. But, the Andronis Arcadia is an oasis of relief from all the crowds. I was really sad to leave the Andronis Arcadia. We had such a delightful stay. Thank you so much to all of you for making our stay so memorable."
