PB hotel design editorial

Carved into the caldera cliff at Oia's northern edge, where the volcanic rock drops sharply toward the Aegean, a cluster of cave dwellings and Cycladic captain's houses was transformed into Canaves Oia Boutique Hotel by the Zozas family, who have shaped the property since the 1980s into one of the island's most recognised addresses. The exterior, visible at dusk in the images, follows the vernacular geometry of Oia precisely — whitewashed plaster volumes stepping down the cliff face in cascading terraces, grey-painted arched doorways, pebbled courtyards laid in the traditional Cycladic manner with white marble chips — so that the hotel's massing is essentially indistinguishable from the village fabric surrounding it. Inside, the cave rooms preserve their original barrel-vaulted and cross-vaulted ceilings, plastered smooth and left entirely white, the curved geometry creating natural acoustics and insulation that no contemporary construction could replicate. Against that ancient shell, the furnishing approach is spare and carefully edited: linen-upholstered headboards in warm taupe, antique carved wooden chairs and dark-stained chests of drawers placed as counterweights to all the white, handwoven cotton rugs on polished marble floors. The terraced infinity pool, its organic form echoing the cave plan below, reflects a chandelier silkscreened onto the adjacent white wall — a quietly knowing gesture that keeps the property from tipping into pure vernacular pastiche. Across its roughly twenty-two suites, Canaves Oia manages what very few cliff hotels on this island achieve: the feeling of inhabiting the place rather than simply viewing it.

Canaves Oia Boutique Hotel Reviews

"Our stay at Canaves Ena was absolutely exceptional and easily one of the highlights of our time in Santorini. We’ve also stayed at Canaves Oia Suites, which is beautiful, but we actually preferred Canaves Ena. It feels a bit more intimate and relaxed while still delivering that same elevated luxury experience. The setting is stunning, with breathtaking caldera views and a peaceful, refined atmosphere that makes it so easy to unwind. The entire property is beautifully designed and feels very private and special. What truly sets this hotel apart, though, is the staff. John, the hotel manager, was incredible—so warm, attentive, and genuinely invested in making our stay perfect. And Maria at the swim-up bar was an absolute standout—fun, welcoming, and made every moment by the pool even better. This is one of those rare places where everything just comes together perfectly. We would return in a heartbeat."

"We recently stayed at Canaves Ena for 5 days as part of a company event, and the entire property is absolutely delicious! The hotel perfectly captures the magic of Santorini, with rooms designed like luxurious little caves that overlook the breathtaking caldera. Our room was an absolute retreat. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and we were obsessed with our bathroom - it featured a huge, underground shower that felt exactly like a private hammam. Our absolute favorite feature, though, was our outdoor patio. Having our own peaceful space to lounge and take in that iconic, endless blue view was simply unforgettable. Beyond the gorgeous architecture, the hospitality was top-notch. The staff was so incredibly friendly, and the breakfast they served was amazing every single morning. If you are looking for a magical, beautifully designed getaway in Santorini, I cannot recommend Canaves Ena enough!"

"Stunning views and friendly staff. Rooms were spotless and well kept. Like having your own little cave. Only 18 rooms so very cozy. Can be private but also easy to make friends with other guests especially at the restaurant or bar. Welcome gift of hats, bag and fruit and dessert plate were much appreciated. Personal welcome note from staff was also much appreciated. Front desk staff was always available to give suggestions or coordinate outings. Within walking distance to shopping and restaurants. The attached restaurant Adami served fresh and authentic food. Restaurant staff were very friendly and offered suggestions for food and sights. There is lots of walking and stairs in Santorini and can be steep especially in the area around Canaves so good to know if you have any mobility issues. Sunset is spectacular!"

"This is a 10 location with wonderful rooms with private balconies all directly facing the Caldera. The service is outstanding and the restaurant and bar are excellent. A perfect location away from the crowds in the heart of Oia (Santorini). It is also part of a family of hotels in Oia that allow guests access to each, and the others are also stunning in their own way as well."
