PB hotel design editorial

Carved into the volcanic caldera edge of Oia, where the cliff drops several hundred feet into the submerged mouth of an ancient volcano, Canaves Oia Sunday Suites represents the more intimate, design-forward sibling within the Canaves family of properties that has shaped Oia's identity as a destination since the 1970s. The original cave structures — hyposkafa dwellings hollowed from the pumice and ignimbrite of the caldera wall — were sensitively converted and expanded, their vaulted ceilings and curved interior volumes preserved as the defining architectural gesture rather than erased in favour of conventional room layouts. The interiors work almost entirely within a single chromatic register: lime-washed white across every surface, with scallop-edged upholstered headboards, pendant lamps in elongated white ceramic, and occasional black sculptural objects — biomorphic stone forms and cast resin pieces — placed to interrupt the monochrome with deliberate visual weight. A glass-topped coffee table trimmed in raw resin edge, paired sun and teardrop mirrors on the bedroom wall, and framed geometric prints in black and white introduce contemporary graphic sensibility without disrupting the cave-dwelling calm. On the terraces, white-painted director chairs and marble-topped tables furnish rooftop platforms oriented entirely toward the caldera view, while glazed white donkey sculptures positioned at the infinity pool edge are a signature wit that distinguishes Sunday Suites from the more austere properties flanking it along the cliff.

"The Canavas Oia Suites were a dream come true. We went to Santorini to elope and Canavas Oia made the entire experience effortless and relaxing. They provided top tier service for everything we needed. The outstanding wedding planner they connected us to helped bring our vision to life and exceed our expectations. The room was very beautiful. Very private and secluded with jaw-dropping views. The location is right in the heart of Oia so many shops and restaurants are close by. The resort was very quiet, peaceful, and clean. All the amenities were in pristine condition. The spa was a wonderful experience. The room service and breakfast were delicious. They had fresh fruit every morning and the service was top tier. The value of staying at this resort is worth every penny and we can’t wait to come back to have another spectacular vacation."

"Absolute great location sitting on the cliffs of Oia. Easy accessible to the main town which is only a short walk away. The breakfast and staff were amazing especially Ali who made us feel very welcome. Pool not big but ok for the hotels size, gym was ok and adequate. Few niggles room was big but only two sunbeds for a room that could fit 4 not good enough for the price paid. Wouldn’t bother eating in Petra either as simply not worth the money charged compared to other restaurants in Oia. Also first time ever a hotel wasn’t accommodating in letting us extend our check out time. However they informed us we could buy a room for a further €500 for about 2 hours. I know companies need to make money but felt this was extreme. However we paid it so I shouldn’t moan. With all this said would definitely stay here again we had a fantastic time!!"

"We absolutely loved our stay at Canaves. The location was perfect for walking around Oia, while the hotel itself still felt private and peaceful. Our room was beautiful and we loved the unique cave design. The quality and level of luxury throughout the property were exceptional, and the staff were consistently friendly and helpful. We also thought the food was outstanding—we had both breakfast and lunch during our stay and were very impressed. Overall, a really special experience and one of the highlights of our trip."
