PB hotel design editorial

Carved directly into the volcanic caldera cliff face at the northern tip of Oia, the property that became Mystique Hotel required its architects to treat the island's ancient cave-dwelling tradition not as aesthetic reference but as structural logic. The whitewashed forms cascade down the basalt rock in a sequence of vaulted suites, terraces, and curved retaining walls that appear — from the aerial view — to have grown organically from the pumice rather than been built upon it. Across its 40 suites and villas, the architecture works entirely within the Cycladic vocabulary: barrel-vaulted ceilings, thick render absorbing and radiating heat, arched doorways connecting cave-like chambers, and an elliptical infinity pool whose rim dissolves into the Aegean far below. The interiors sustain this restraint with genuine discipline. Walls, floors, and ceilings in each room share the same chalky white — broken only by raw driftwood headboards, rough-hewn timber bedside tables, and striped linen cushions in warm grey. Paired wall lamps flank the beds in a quietly symmetrical arrangement, while full-height panelled shutters fold back to frame the caldera view as a living picture. On the restaurant terrace, teak-topped tables and white powder-coated chairs line up against the cliff edge, the bar set into a niche of sculpted render behind them. The effect across every level is one of deliberate subtraction — colour, ornament, and material weight progressively removed until what remains is light, volcanic stone, and the deep blue of the caldera.

"Such a gorgeous property. Walking distance to a lot of great restaurants and downtown OIA. Hotel is beautiful and yes a lot of cobblestone steps to get to and from your room. Rooms Are spread out enough to get privacy it yet close enough to see everything happening around you. We were located in the middle and those cobble stone steps are no joke. We had our private balcony with an amazing view. Restaurant for breakfast had a great service. Anastasia was great she remembered our coffee orders each day. Breakfast has a great variety and the entire team is great. We didn’t eat here for lunch or dinner but walked outside of property for a variety of food option and. Isn’t life. Everything is 10min walking distances. True VIPs are the porters who carry heavy suitcases from/to your room. No elevators just cobblestone steps. I just can’t imagine how they do this all day especially in the heat. Jimmy is great and has great recommendations. Property also has car services if you want to go wine tasting or shopping etc. nothing disappointed here."

"We absolutely loved Mystique, a Luxury Collection Hotel. From the moment we arrived, every member of the staff was amazing—warm, welcoming, and incredibly attentive. The concierge service was truly unmatched. They took care of us throughout our entire stay and made all of our dinner reservations at some of the top restaurants in Santorini, making sure we had wonderful tables and experiences. They made everything effortless for us. The hotel itself is absolutely breathtaking. All of the rooms have incredible views of the caldera, and the beautiful infinity pool overlooking the Aegean Sea is the perfect place to relax and take in the scenery. We also loved all the thoughtful touches. We would return to our room to find beautiful pastry treats, complimentary wine, and they even surprised us with a bottle of Prosecco. Breakfast every morning was amazing—my absolute favorite was the Energy Yogurt! Our room was beautiful and unique, with an upstairs area and two private terraces overlooking the caldera. Waking up to those views every morning was unforgettable. Our only regret is that we didn’t book more days. We truly didn’t want to leave. Mystique made our time in Santorini unforgettable, and we would absolutely stay here again. ❤️"

"⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ If You’re Looking for the Best Hotel in Santorini… Stop Searching. As someone who travels often and truly appreciates exceptional hospitality, I can honestly say Mystique Luxury Hotel exceeded every expectation. This wasn’t just a hotel stay—it was an experience we’ll never forget. The excellence began before we even arrived. The day before our check-in, the concierge team called to ask if we were celebrating anything special and whether we needed transportation from the airport. That thoughtful phone call immediately made us feel like valued guests rather than just another reservation. The moment we arrived, Maria greeted us with one of the warmest welcomes we’ve ever received. She was genuinely kind, professional, and made us feel at home within minutes. If you’re fortunate enough to stay here, ask for Maria. She is an absolute gem and a true ambassador for this beautiful property. Walking into our suite was simply breathtaking. We were welcomed with a personalized letter, complimentary Prosecco, fresh fruit, cheese, and a stocked complimentary minibar. Every detail felt intentional and luxurious. Our room was spectacular. We had a private jacuzzi on our terrace overlooking the Aegean Sea, and I honestly don’t think there is a bad view anywhere on this property. Whether you’re standing on your balcony, relaxing by the pool, or walking through the pathways, every angle is postcard-worthy. For anyone who loves photography or social media, this hotel is paradise. There are countless hidden corners, terraces, and scenic overlooks throughout the property that create incredible photo opportunities. Every morning and every sunset feels like a professional photo shoot. What impressed us most, however, was the people. Throughout our stay, the concierge team and staff consistently checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. They were proactive, attentive, and genuinely invested in making our stay unforgettable. Every employee we encountered greeted us with a smile and treated us with kindness and professionalism. The food deserves special recognition. It was absolutely outstanding. We explored several wonderful restaurants during our time in Santorini, but the meals at Mystique were among our favorites. You truly don’t have to leave the property for an exceptional dining experience. We visited Santorini to celebrate my birthday, and Mystique made it feel incredibly special. I would recommend this hotel for birthdays, anniversaries, honeymoons, or simply anyone wanting to experience Santorini at its finest. One helpful tip for future guests: this is Santorini, so be prepared for lots of stairs and cobblestone pathways. If you have mobility limitations, this is something to consider. But if you’re physically able, embrace it! We joked that we didn’t need the gym because the stairs gave us our daily workout—and every climb was rewarded with another breathtaking view. I’ve stayed at many beautiful hotels over the years, but what sets Mystique Luxury Hotel apart isn’t just the stunning location or luxurious accommodations—it’s the people. Exceptional service is what transforms a beautiful hotel into an unforgettable destination, and the team at Mystique has mastered that art. Thank you, Maria, and the entire Mystique team, for making my birthday celebration so memorable. We left with amazing memories and are already looking forward to returning. If I could give this hotel 10 stars, I absolutely would. :::writing This review has the qualities TripAdvisor readers appreciate most: it tells a personal story, mentions outstanding staff by name, highlights unique amenities, gives practical advice about the stairs, and explains why the experience stood out instead of simply saying it was “great.” It’s the kind of review that future guests often mark as Helpful because it feels authentic and informative."

"Beautiful caldera rooms with serene sea views. The staff were incredibly attentive (very responsive through Whatsapp)and always ready to help with anything—finding the spa, second pool or fitness center. The steps are steep but manageable, definitely let the team help with bags. 5-10 min walk to the main area of Oia, good location away from all the hustle of shops/restaurants. Breakfast and lunch by pool incredible. Made to perfection each day. We really loved the smoothie bowls, Signature egg dish, and Calamari by pool delicious. Did the lymphatic massage and the service was wonderful. Nice and relaxing after long travel days and hiking to Thira. Def recommend, and if possible book a room with a private pool as the main pool is a bit small but always managed to get a sun bed, all beds have umbrellas that provide good shade."
