PB hotel design editorial

Carved into the pine-forested cliffs of Sithonia's central peninsula, where the Aegean meets the red ochre rock of Halkidiki's middle finger, the Danai Beach Resort & Villas has maintained a studied tension between Hellenic restraint and quietly theatrical luxury since its founding by the Daskalopoulos family. The aerial view tells you everything about the property's organizing logic: white beach cabanas march along a private sandy shore in geometric formation, the pine canopy pressing right to the cliff edge above, the whole compound sheltered from the outside world by topography and dense woodland rather than walls. Inside, that tension between discipline and indulgence plays out across two distinct registers. The beach restaurant operates in full resort mode — fringe-trimmed pergolas, white beaded chandeliers, teak dining furniture on striped flatweave rugs, all of it open to the Aegean on three sides. The guestrooms split between an older Mediterranean vocabulary, where deep teal venetian plaster walls and wrought-iron baroque headboards carry the feel of a well-loved Aegean villa, and newer suites that tilt toward contemporary eclecticism: polished white marble floors, a Salvador Dalí-referencing hand-shaped lounge chair in cream bouclé, red leather club chairs, and original paintings introducing flashes of narrative. The infinity pool terrace, furnished with dark-framed canopy daybeds in white linen, frames the Aegean with the straightforward confidence of a property that has never needed to oversell its position.

"A beautiful hotel, lovely and relaxed and boutique feel. Staff were very lovely and rooms beautiful. Felt a really thoughtful hotel in service, decor and ambiance"

"My husband and I enjoyed a five night break here, after arriving exhausted from a busy and complicated house move. The Danai retains the charm of a small family run hotel, as a leading hotel of the world this also equates to very high service levels - combined with some real Greek authenticity, and outstanding dining options, it was perfect for the kind of relaxation we were looking for. It is nestled right next to the sea which offers some of the most beautiful views in the region, both during the day, at sunset for pre dinner drinks - and later for romantic starry nights it is gently lit for dinner under the pine trees, overlooking the sea bathed in moon light. The setting is just sublime. The chefs produce outstanding dishes, and we enjoyed our suppers so much, we decided to stay for dinner every night of our stay. The location is just an hour to and from the airport, and the entire experience was seamless from London to the Danai. Incredibly civilised and comfortable, with the chauffeur taking excellent care of us too. We absolutely adored the pool area, with the bird song, deep tranquility and reading our books quietly under the trees surrounded by mediterranean flowers. The shimmering pool, excellent pool service and the comfort of the bedrooms. The newly renovated spa and treatments really made for a truly restorative break in combination with a hotel that has history and a soul, and has been truly cared for over the years which is obvious in every small detail and refinement around the hotel. . Authentic family run hotels like this are becoming increasingly rare in a globalised, homogenised world, we will most definitely return."

"The hotel benefits from a beautiful setting, great sea views, excellent food, and attentive service—but it falls well short of what its prices promise. The biggest issue is the rooms. Despite requesting a quiet room, I was given one with a connecting door that was so poorly insulated I could clearly hear conversations, TV, and general noise from next door. Any sense of privacy was completely lost. At this price point, that is unacceptable. If peace and quiet are important to you, i strongly recommend avoiding any room with a connecting door. Pricing transparency is also lacking. Beyond room rates, virtually no prices for restaurants, bars, spa treatments, or cabanas are published online, and it is unclear whether service charges are included. The hotel also appears to cater largely to families rather than couples or solo travellers, which is somewhat surprising given the lack of dedicated children’s facilities. In short: a beautiful property with strong food and service, but significantly overpriced and let down by poor soundproofing and lack of transparency."

"My husband and I had the most magical and truly memorable stay at The Danai. Every aspect of the hotel is simply flawless, and the team made us feel so incredibly welcome from the moment we arrived. We were completely blown away by the beauty of the hotel and its incredible views - it really is a slice of paradise! Every meal we had was truly exceptional, the beach is absolutely stunning, and the rooms are beautifully designed and incredibly comfortable. Overall, I cannot recommend The Danai highly enough and very much hope to return one day!"
