PB hotel design editorial

Grande Anse beach on Grenada's southwestern coast had long been the island's most coveted strip of white sand, but serious architectural ambition arrived there only in 2017 when Silversands Grenada opened as the Caribbean's first genuinely contemporary ultra-luxury resort. The three-storey building, designed by the London-based firm Goddard Littlefair with local architectural input, deploys a language of dark hardwood vertical fins, glass-railed balconies, and a low-pitched green roof that echoes the island's plantation vernacular without quoting it directly. Lush bamboo and royal palms planted immediately against the facade blur the boundary between building and landscape, so the structure from the pool side carries the feeling of something that grew here rather than arrived. The 43 rooms and suites are finished in a palette of pale oak slatted millwork, polished concrete floors softened by wide-plank timber zones, and tightly edited furniture — rattan bucket chairs, tulip-base side tables in matte black, linen daybed benches — that keeps the focus on the framed Caribbean horizon beyond the full-width sliding glass walls. The lobby bar extends that grammar outward through steel-framed bifold glass panels onto a covered terrace, its slatted timber ceiling continuing the exterior fin motif into the interior. A narrow reflecting pool draws an axis from the building directly to the sea, lined with dark timber pergolas and woven-rope outdoor chairs that hold the composition in place without overwhelming it.

"**Bottom Line Up Front:** I would stay here again—but not during the rainy season. Airport Transfer: The airport transfer was smooth and reasonably priced. Representatives were waiting outside the airport with signs, making them easy to find. However, since the resort has two properties, make sure you know which one you're staying before approaching them. The ride to the hotel took about 15 minutes. Check-In: Check-in was quick and welcoming. Since I arrived after the official check-in time, my room was ready. One thing to be aware of: the security deposit is supposed to be a temporary hold, but it ended up posting as a charge to my credit card. I recommend confirming that they are placing only an authorization hold—not an actual charge—when you check in. Room: The room was modern, well-appointed, and, for the most part, soundproof. The rooms are designed so you wake up facing the ocean. However, buildings directly in front of the hotel partially obstruct the view. If possible, request a room on the far-right side of the building, preferably on one of the upper floors. Since the hotel has only three stories, even the higher floors won't provide a completely unobstructed view, but a higher-floor corner room offers the best chance. Housekeeping was attentive, consistent, and did an excellent job throughout my stay. Pool: The view of the pool when you first enter the hotel is absolutely stunning. It really takes your breath away. Although the pool could be considered narrow, it's very long, so it never felt crowded. Pool service was inconsistent. One day there were three attendants working, while on other days there was only one. Other staff members were willing to help when needed, but having only one dedicated pool attendant often resulted in slower service, especially when he took a lunch break or was assisting elsewhere. It seemed like an unnecessary strain on both the employee and the guests. The hotel provides complimentary sunscreen and insect repellent, and you'll definitely need the insect repellent if you visit during the rainy season. Unfortunately, the insects were the biggest downside of my trip and significantly impacted my vacation. I was told the property fogs for insects twice a week, but during the rainy season that simply wasn't enough. They really should consider fogging at least every other day. The bugs were so bad that I couldn't comfortably enjoy the pool or beach. Beach: The beach is small but perfectly adequate. While the water isn't the most stunning Caribbean water I've experienced, it's still beautiful. There are also quite a few friendly stray dogs along the beach. If you're uncomfortable around stray dogs, beach walks may not be particularly enjoyable. Gym: Small but functional, with enough equipment for a basic workout. Spa: Don't skip the spa! The facilities are beautiful, the treatment rooms are among the nicest I've experienced, and the massage services were outstanding. The spa was easily one of the highlights of my stay. The only missing element is a whirlpool but everything else is certainly there! Breakfast: Breakfast was average. The selection remained fairly consistent each morning, but the quality and flavor varied from day to day. A dish that tasted great one morning might be disappointing the next. Fruit flies were also noticeable. Most of the food was covered to protect it, but some items remained exposed. Overall Experience: The shuttle between the sister properties runs every three hours. The Grand Anse property was very accommodating if you needed transportation outside the scheduled times, but the Beach property adhered strictly to the shuttle schedule. Overall, the resort never felt overcrowded, even when having locals visit for the day. It maintained a quiet, relaxing atmosphere throughout my stay. The staff were professional, responsive, and generally accommodating. Despite a few areas that could be improved, I enjoyed my stay. If I return to Grenada, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again—as long as it isn't during the rainy season."

"Wow... where do I even start? My stay at Silversands was honestly 10/10 from beginning to end. The resort itself is absolutely beautiful, the food was incredible, the rooms were stunning, and every little detail made the experience feel so special. But what really made this trip unforgettable was the people. The team at Silversands genuinely made me feel at home from the moment I arrived. Everyone was so warm, welcoming, and attentive, and it never felt like they were just doing their job. They truly cared about making sure I had the best experience possible. A special thank you to Rolando (my fave), Princess, Shaquille, Andrew, Dominique, Kory, Kehrim and Kellon. You all went above and beyond, and your kindness, energy and hospitality made my stay even more memorable. It's people like you who turn a beautiful hotel into a place you can't wait to come back to. I'll definitely be returning, and the incredible team is one of the biggest reasons why. Thank you all so much for making my time in Grenada so special. I already can't wait to come back."

"We had an absolutely wonderful time at Silversands! We stayed in Villa 4 for five nights, and everything exceeded our expectations. The food was incredible, and the service was truly outstanding. Our butler, Shea, was exceptional. Anytime we texted him, he responded immediately and made sure we had everything we needed. He consistently went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. During our lunches and afternoons at the Grenadian Grill, we were fortunate to be taken care of by Shaquille. He provided top-notch service, was incredibly friendly and personable, and made us feel right at home every day. If you’re planning a trip to Grenada, I highly recommend staying at Silversands—and be sure to ask for Shea and Shaquille. They truly made an amazing vacation unforgettable! 5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐"
