PB hotel design editorial

Directly across from St. Stephen's Basilica, where Hercegprímás Street cuts through Budapest's inner fifth district, a late nineteenth-century neoclassical palace — its cream stucco facade articulated by pilasters, rusticated base, and ornate ironwork balconies — was converted into the Aria Hotel Budapest, which opened in 2015 under the Library Hotel Collection. The music-themed concept organises the hotel's 49 rooms and suites across four wings, each devoted to a different genre: classical, opera, jazz, and contemporary. The interiors, designed by New York-based Adam D. Tihany, treat that conceit with enough wit to avoid novelty fatigue — exposed brick vaulting crowns the jazz suites alongside acid-green velvet headboards and pop-art canvases of guitar-playing figures, while the classical-wing rooms deploy deep-buttoned blue velvet headboards, coffered plaster ceilings, and marble chimneypieces retained from the original structure. The rooftop is where the building's position becomes undeniable: a terrace garden furnished in amber wicker and saffron-cushioned lounge chairs sits at near eye-level with the Basilica's twin bell towers and the copper-green dome that Josef Kauser completed in 1905, the view framed by clipped topiary and planters of cypress. Below, the enclosed bar space carries a different register — red carpet, tufted linen armchairs in taupe, and fringed floor lamps beside a glazed conservatory wall, the atmosphere hovering somewhere between a Budapest salon and a late-night jazz club. The building's own bones — brick arches, stone cornices, original fireplaces — do most of the architectural work throughout.

"We had a fantastic two night stay in the Aria Hotel. It’s in a beautiful location , easy to reach main attractions and lots of great restaurants! From the moment you arrive until the moment you leave you are looked after extremely well! Great room and delicious breakfast! It’s a lovely touch in the afternoon to sample Hungarian wine and cheese for free. The rooftop bar is a must visit! We would definitely love to return one day!"

"We stayed for three nights on a bed and breakfast basis at The Aria and from first welcome to our departure everything was fantastic. The staff were professional, courteous and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was spacious, well equipped, very comfortable and spotlessly clean, with the music theme within the decor a nice touch. I loved it. The food selection at breakfast was very good and well presented, catering for all tastes and the afternoon cheese and wine in the hall was very relaxing with the live (very professional and not intrusive) background music. Another highlight is the rooftop bar, an inviting place to start your evening. I can't praise The Aria enough, everything about it is spot on and its central location makes it an ideal base for a visit to Budapest."

"This hotel just kept on giving you more and more WOW moments as you explored this Hidden Gem. Just like Dr Who’s Tardis small on the outside very big on the inside . Free Cheese and Hungarian wine tasting late afternoon Mmmm lovely but beware we asked for a glass of Merlot but was not informed this Merlot wasn’t part of the free Hungarian tasting wines and we were charged 11600 HUF for 2 medium glasses of Merlot with service charge of 1740 HUF total 13340 HUF in sterling that was just under £30.00 but we paid in HUF so stick to the wines on offer for free unless you can afford that price or moneys no problem. Also on booking in you have to pay a hotel Tax which all hotels have to pay to the Government for two of us for 3 nights stay was around £18 sterling cheaper than 2 glasses of wine. Food excellent, staff very helpful and friendly although when we sat down at a table at the afternoon wine and cheese tasting we were asked if we were guests at the hotel by a waitress even though we’d been at the hotel a few days by then. It felt like a Julia Roberts moment in Pretty Woman with Richard Gere me not looking like I could afford to be at the hotel obviously not after paying nearly £30 for 2 glasses of wine haha but it was a beautiful hotel really enjoyed everything about it even had swimming pool steam rooms gym Jacuzzi Spa treatments. The hotel is in the town centre of Budapest lots of historical places in walking distance to visit restaurants, bars ,fashion shopping and cruise trips on the Danube River , St Stephen’s Basilica right next door to hotel we booked on line for our trip on Danube river and Basilica . Alcohol can be pricey and the food as you’re in town centre tourists price's . Would I go again? It’s a big YES from me."
