PB hotel design editorial

At the foot of Buda's Castle Hill, where Adam Clark Square meets the western end of the Chain Bridge, a curved eight-storey building clad in dark oxidised bronze-toned panels holds one of Budapest's more considered contemporary hotel positions. Hotel Clark Budapest, which opened in 2019 with 96 rooms across its gently bowed facade, was designed by Hungarian practice Zs+B Group, the building's rounded corner responding to the geometry of the roundabout below while a glazed rooftop pavilion — visible clearly from the Danube embankment — crowns the structure without competing with the neoclassical neighbours pressing in on either side. Inside, the interiors draw on Art Deco geometry filtered through a contemporary Hungarian sensibility: rooms feature faceted graphic wall treatments behind the headboards, evoking cut crystal or gemstone faceting, dark walnut flooring, and oversized drum pendants that anchor the bed without overwhelming compact floor plates. The palette shifts between warm taupe and deep navy, with colourful illustrative scatter cushions providing the kind of editorial wit that prevents the scheme from tipping into corporate neutrality. The ground-floor restaurant deploys emerald green buttoned banquettes, blue velvet dining chairs, white hexagonal floor tile, and a marble-topped bar beneath a large brass-framed pendant light — a room that carries the mood of a 1930s Parisian brasserie translated into a Budapest key. On the rooftop, the Leo bar frames an unobstructed view of the Hungarian Parliament through a glass-and-steel structure furnished with tropical upholstery and rattan lanterns.

"Hotel Clark is a gorgeous property with amazing views of the Pest side of the city, especially at night. Service is first class and rooms are very clean and comfortable. Leo, the rooftop restaurant and bar, offers delicious food and drinks with an even more impressive view. (Rooftop requires reservations.) Many must-see sights and restaurants are within walking distance. I highly recommend the Hotel Clark!"

"I stayed at Hotel Clark Budapest following a recommendation from a travel agency I frequently use, and unfortunately my experience was extremely disappointing. After driving from Vienna to Budapest, I arrived at the hotel only to be told that my reservation had been cancelled, despite all confirmation details on my end still showing it as active. I am not entirely sure where the miscommunication originated, and I believe responsibility likely falls on both the booking agency and the hotel. The front desk receptionist and front desk manager advised that rooms were available and assured me they would accommodate me. However, after roughly 30 minutes of discussion, there was still no clear resolution. I contacted the agency I booked through, and they acknowledged an error on their side and stated they would arrange payment directly with the hotel. Later, while I was waiting outside for food, a receptionist approached me to explain my options, despite my agency already having communicated these. I was told the agency had requested a payment link, but the hotel would not provide one because it was a weekend and the following day was a bank holiday. Instead, I was encouraged to book directly with the hotel. At the time of writing, this situation has continued for two days without resolution. I also requested the return of the €200 deposit I provided upon arrival. I was informed it would instead be applied to my bill, despite the reservation already being paid through my agency. I was further told the deposit could not be refunded. As a result, I appear to have paid both through the agency and directly to the hotel, while still lacking clarity regarding the final charges. What has been most disappointing is not necessarily that an error occurred, as booking mistakes happen, but the lack of transparency, urgency, and ownership in resolving the issue. Clear communication and prompt problem-solving would have significantly changed this experience. The front desk staff, including Matyas and Boróka, encouraged me to leave a review. I’m leaving one because I believe future guests should be aware of the challenges I experienced. Based on my stay and the handling of this situation, I would not choose to stay at this property again."
