PB hotel design editorial

Hilton's Canopy brand made its Nordic debut on Sæbraut, steps from the old harbour where Reykjavík's fishing trawlers once docked, in a purpose-built structure clad in dark standing-seam metal panels that sit in pointed conversation with the painted corrugated-iron vernacular of the surrounding city. Canopy by Hilton Reykjavík City Centre opened in 2017 across 112 rooms arranged over seven floors, its facade geometry sharp and contemporary against a neighbourhood where the adjacent building — visible in the exterior image — carries hand-painted geometric murals that echo traditional Icelandic craft motifs. Inside, the double-height lobby works exposed concrete columns, wide-plank oak flooring, and warm timber wall cladding into a register that feels closer to a well-appointed longhouse than a chain hotel common area. Blue velvet armchairs on wire-frame legs cluster around round walnut tables with teardrop pendant lamps between them, while a mezzanine staircase with industrial steel balustrades rises past a collage artwork overhead. The bar and restaurant continue the material conversation — patterned encaustic cement tiles underfoot, a back-lit oak bar front, smoked-glass globe pendants alongside hammered brass shades, white subway tile framing the kitchen pass. Guest rooms carry the palette upward: pale ash floors, geometric dhurrie rugs in charcoal and grey, oak desk-and-shelving units, and a distinctive teal-painted slatted headboard canopy that gives the brand its name its most literal architectural expression.

"Choose this hotel for our week stay in Reykjavik.... It was centrally located and easy walking to most things in town. Close to the tour bus stop #6, and near the main shopping areas. Hotel staff were friendly and attentive. Breakfast was wonderful and made for a great start to all our mornings. They also offered bagged breakfasts for early morning departures-it was very nice. Are dinner there twice and food was very good!! Enjoyed happy hour too.... Overall aesthetics were nice and would definitely book there again!"

"Perfectly located in the city centre, easy to walk everywhere (and then some). Stayed here for a week before moving to the south coast for the second part of the visit. Great location with plenty of food options, and, of course, all the key sites that make central Reykjavik popular are within 1-5 blocks, depending on what you're looking for. This was our initial base, and it only took an hour or so to get out to the Golden Circle/Geysir areas, so easily workable if you want to venture outside of the City. We stayed on the top floor, near the Terrace patio, and suggest you request it if you can, especially in the winter months, as the Aurora is easy to see overhead, despite the city lights. Breakfast was included with our plan, and the buffet was classic Euro, with all of the standard fare. If you walked out on the day hungry, it will be your own fault - we loaded up and were set (for the most part) until dinner. We did not eat dinner at the hotel, given the large number of options literally within a few blocks' walk. Rooms are classic city-Euro rooms, but big enough to relax in without feeling cramped. Very comfortable."

"We booked this as a Jet2 City Break and chose this hotel (though more expensive than others) for its central location - we were not disappointed. The location is excellent next to all bars and restaurants and is right next to bus stop 6 where all the tours go from. We had a premium king size room which was spacious with a good sized bathroom. Breakfast was buffet with very good hot and cold choices. We visited the bar which was reasonably priced during happy hour (8-11) and all the staff were super helpful - especially the reception staff. Would definitely stay here again!"

"Stayed at this hotel in Reykjavik for 4 nights. It has a great location for bars and restaurants, sights and also Bus Stop #6 where a number of the tours pick up from. The rooms aren't the biggest but they have everything you need. The TV was a bit temperamental on occasions but we weren't there to watch TV. The breakfast was plentiful and varied with a few items I've not seen anywhere else. Staff were efficient, professional and friendly. I would stay there again if I visited the city."
