PB hotel design editorial

Hilton's Canopy brand made its Nordic debut on Sæbraut, steps from the old harbour where Reykjavík's fishing trawlers once docked, in a purpose-built structure clad in dark standing-seam metal panels that sit in pointed conversation with the painted corrugated-iron vernacular of the surrounding city. Canopy by Hilton Reykjavík City Centre opened in 2017 across 112 rooms arranged over seven floors, its facade geometry sharp and contemporary against a neighbourhood where the adjacent building — visible in the exterior image — carries hand-painted geometric murals that echo traditional Icelandic craft motifs. Inside, the double-height lobby works exposed concrete columns, wide-plank oak flooring, and warm timber wall cladding into a register that feels closer to a well-appointed longhouse than a chain hotel common area. Blue velvet armchairs on wire-frame legs cluster around round walnut tables with teardrop pendant lamps between them, while a mezzanine staircase with industrial steel balustrades rises past a collage artwork overhead. The bar and restaurant continue the material conversation — patterned encaustic cement tiles underfoot, a back-lit oak bar front, smoked-glass globe pendants alongside hammered brass shades, white subway tile framing the kitchen pass. Guest rooms carry the palette upward: pale ash floors, geometric dhurrie rugs in charcoal and grey, oak desk-and-shelving units, and a distinctive teal-painted slatted headboard canopy that gives the brand its name its most literal architectural expression.

"A fantastic 4-night stay at this very stylish, perfectly situated hotel. We booked a King One Bedroom Suite, which was perfect for ourselves and our 13yr old daughter. Our room was spacious and had all the amenities you would want. Spotlessly clean too. Breakfast is a highlight. Something for everyone. Food is all very tasty and fresh. A fantastic start to the day. Location is absolutely perfect for exploring Reykjavik. Staff are friendly and welcoming. We would not hesitate to stay here again. Thoroughly recommended."

"Currently listening to a booming party right outside the window at 11:10 pm. Impossible to sleep. Called the front desk and was told that the hotel’s restaurant was having a party. He suggested that I write an email to the management."

"What a gem of a hotel! Excellent location with the most hard working, friendly staff. This was our first visit to Iceland and won't be our last. Breakfast was tasty and included for Hilton Diamond. Super clean and a short walk from rainbow street, awesome restaurants. This is a great point redemption too. Rooms are usually not ready super early in the morning so we were pleasantly surprised that both our rooms were ready for us when we arrived around 7 AM. We only had one issue, room 406, twin room we booked for our teenager. The bathroom in this room has a strange shower set up, small rubber barrier on the ground to block water, but doesn't work well at all. Water goes everywhere. Our room, 404 had a proper door and was roughly the same size. Highly suggest the hotel do something about that. Otherwise, it was a great stay and every single member of the staff greeted us every morning when we walked in/out of the hotel, super helpful with making reservations, calling taxis."

"My wife and I had a great 4 night stay at the Canopy by Hilton in Reykjavik. Ideally situated close to shops, restaurants and the main areas of the city, the hotel is ideal for a stay in Reykjavik. From the moment you enter reception you can see that the hotel has been well designed, really well decorated and has great quirky public spaces. Our room overlooked the inner 'courtyard style' square and, as a result, was quiet and away from the road. The room was comfortable, very clean, a good size and had sufficient space for hanging clothes, with a number of drawers as well. Major pluses were the cafe in the foyer (based on a honesty system) and the Geiri restaurant/bar. The latter had a daily happy hour and, in addition, has a buy one get one free offer on main courses on a Monday & Tuesday (well worth knowing given that it is expensive to eat out in Iceland). The hotel is around 5 mins walk from Bust Stop 6 (pick up/drop off) for tourist excursions and 20-25 mins walk from attractions like the lava show and FlyOver Iceland and only 3-4 mins walk from Magic Ice bar. The hotel is highly recommended."
