PB hotel design editorial

Designed by Ramesh Khosla and completed in 1976, the building that became ITC Mughal sits within a sprawling landscape conceived as a direct conversation with the Mughal garden tradition — the charbagh's geometry of water channels, terraced lawns, and shaded pathways translated into a contemporary resort spread across twenty-three acres just south of the Taj Mahal, whose white marble dome is visible from the rooftop tower. The exterior is Agra's red sandstone vocabulary reinterpreted in exposed brick, the facades entirely consumed by climbing vines that soften what might otherwise register as a heavy institutional massing into something closer to a ruin reclaimed by its own gardens. The pool terrace, framed by white-painted pergolas and brick colonnades, channels the same Mughal hydraulic logic — water at ground level, shade overhead, geometry underfoot in a herringbone brick pattern laid with precise informality. Inside the 233 rooms, two distinct registers operate. The standard rooms carry ivory-toned arched headboard panels referencing Mughal architectural detailing, dark granite floors anchored by red floral dhurrie rugs, and warm teak furniture with brass fittings — colonial-inflected but grounded in local craft. The suite bathrooms move toward a cleaner contemporary language: travertine-clad soaking tubs open to the sleeping area through timber-framed partitions, with corrugated metal wall panels and vessel sinks on floating walnut vanities. The restaurant Peshawri, with its rough-cut limestone walls, dark timber ceiling beams, and copper thali service, evokes a North-West Frontier caravanserai with a conviction that few period-referencing hotel restaurants manage to sustain.

"The check-in process was extremely smooth and efficient thanks to Front Office Manager Akash, who ensured all the formalities were completed quickly and seamlessly. A special mention to Nabanita for warmly showing us around the room and patiently helping us with all our queries during the stay. The check-out process was equally pleasant and hassle-free. Ananna made it very quick, smooth, and comfortable for us. We had a truly rejuvenating and relaxing experience at the Spa. Special thanks to Vini & Nisha at the reception desk for being so warm, sweet, and incredibly helpful in assisting us throughout our visit. Poonam, Thumlung and Stella were absolutely exceptional, the massage therapies were supremely relaxing, calming, and professionally done. We walked out feeling completely refreshed and rejuvenated. I would highly recommend the spa services for anyone looking to unwind and indulge in a luxurious wellness experience. Ashish in sports was extremely engaging and energetic throughout the sessions — pickleball, lawn tennis, and cricket. We really enjoyed ourselves; he made the games fun, interactive, and exciting. My father and mother had a great time. A heartfelt thanks to Chef Manoj at Taj Bano for making my birthday so special. He thoughtfully prepared a beautiful cake for me, which truly made my day amazing and memorable. The food was absolutely scrumptious — especially the Green Thai Curry (which he specially made for us), the Indian main course, and the phirni (my parents loved it).The entire experience was warm We had a truly wonderful dining experience at Peshawari. The incharge and servers, Krishna and Sunil, were incredibly sweet, attentive, and hospitable throughout our meal. They made us feel very comfortable and ensured we had a pleasant time. The food was absolutely outstanding The Dal Bukhara was rich and flavorful, the starters were delicious, and the breads were simply amazing special thanks to the Chef Sanju. A special thanks to Pratik and Shyam Sunder for their excellent hospitality and quick service throughout breakfast. They were attentive, courteous, and made sure everything was served promptly, making our morning experience truly enjoyable."

"The hotel from outside is fantastic The interior is in need of some running repairs Lots of cracks in walls, lots of damp in corridors and carpets that need repairing The service in the bar and restaurant is very poor One morning, l had to wait 25 minutes for two poached eggs Trying to get a coffee is almost impossible Same in the bar The bar area is way too small Also, trying to get a drink is very difficult The room staff are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble This is not a five star hotel by English Standards Not that l haven't enjoyed my stay. it's been great Just when booking this hotel don’t set your standard too high"
