PB hotel design editorial

Paddy fields stretching toward the Arabian Sea at Majorda, their flooded terraces catching the last of the Goan sunset — this is the agricultural landscape that the design of Alila Diwa Goa was built to honour rather than erase. Opened in 2009, the low-rise resort was conceived by Goa-based architect Revathi Kamath with a clear directive: to settle into the working countryside of South Goa rather than dominate it. The massing is deliberately horizontal, white-plastered volumes arranged beneath steep laterite-tiled roofs that draw from the vernacular architecture of Goan farmhouses, the whole compound spread across roughly 25 acres with 143 rooms and suites across two-storey wings that keep their rooflines well below the coconut palms. Inside, the interiors move between warm restraint and confident local colour. Guest rooms carry exposed timber roof structures — raftered ceilings in dark wood giving each space an intimate pitch — with parquet flooring, jute dhurries, and upholstered headboards in woven earth-toned fabric. Ikat-print cushions and perforated metal wall sconces introduce craft references without tipping into pastiche. The restaurant, open to the garden on one side, lays patterned cement tiles in a bold red, black, and cream geometry underfoot, the high timber-trussed ceiling and rattan chairs above it pulling the room back toward warmth. The infinity pool extends its edge directly toward the paddy, making the working fields as much a visual amenity as the sea beyond.

"Excellent location, 10 min walk to the beach. Spaces were well designed, the room was spacious and gave a feeling of warmth due to the use of wood at many areas including ceiling. We hada relaxing holiday with good ambience, good food, happy faces and good service."

"Alila Diwa Goa is a beautiful hotel in South Goa. I travelled with 2 siblings and my elderly dad who has poor mobility. We had a direct flight with Tui from London, Gatwick to Manohar, airport ( North Goa) and from there it took 1hr 45mins to the hotel as there is a lot of construction on route ( Dabolim airport is closer but we could not get a direct flight to it). The hotel feels really safe, gated with security at the front and back entrances/exits. The hotel is set in a tranquil and relaxing setting overlooking paddy fields and it has a beautiful infinity pool and poolside bar/ restaurant to catch the stunning sunsets. The rooms are quiet, spacious and very clean with all the amenities needed including UK 3 pin plug points. The bottled water is supplied free, is replenished daily, and they are generous with the amount supplied which is needed in the hot conditions. WiFi was excellent and had good coverage around the hotel and grounds. Unfortunately we got bitten by a few odd mosquitoes in the room at night but that was before we realised they supplied a plug in repellent which was good. Breakfast was good with continental choices and cooked foods including local specialities. As we met family and friends we tended to eat out and there are some lovely reasonably priced restaurants that are walkable as very close to the hotel. The hotel kindly gave my dad a room close to reception which was specially adapted and they also loaned us a wheelchair for his entire stay- this was such a bonus as it allowed him to get around so much more easily. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. There was one stand out member of staff named Punchram who was part of security at the hotel entrance- he always had a smile on his face and always helped my elderly dad get in and out of taxis and pushed his wheelchair up the ramps to the foyer daily. Definitely would recommend this hotel, this was my second visit after 13years and would stay here again in future."

"I had a wonderful stay at Alila Diwa Goa with my wife and our baby. The property is beautifully maintained and exceptionally clean throughout. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely supportive, making everything feel effortless—especially while traveling with an infant. The pool area was fantastic, the ambience was calm and relaxing, and the breakfast spread was excellent with great quality and variety. Overall, it was the perfect place to unwind and create lovely family memories. Highly recommended!"
