PB hotel design editorial

Perched 2,000 feet above Hyderabad on a rocky plateau in the Falaknuma district, the palace that Nawab Vikar-ul-Umra commissioned in 1884 and later surrendered to the sixth Nizam of Hyderabad, Mahbub Ali Khan, spent nearly a century in near-abandonment before Princess Esra of Hyderabad initiated its restoration in 2000. Taj Falaknuma Palace opened to guests in 2010 after a decade of painstaking work that required sourcing craftsmen trained in traditional Nizami stucco techniques, restoring Venetian chandeliers, and recovering period furniture that had been scattered across the royal household. The architecture is a confident hybrid — Italian marble colonnades and neoclassical arched loggias wrapping a massing that breaks into Mughal domes and pointed Indo-Saracenic arches at the roofline, a combination that made the palace one of the grandest private residences in nineteenth-century India. The interiors carry that same layered inheritance. Guest rooms fitted with four-poster beds draped in silk and floral cotton, exposed timber beam ceilings overhead, and warm hardwood floors recall the colonial-period aesthetic the Nizams absorbed with genuine enthusiasm. The dining room, visible in the images, deploys carved walnut cane-back chairs around formally dressed tables beneath a double-height coffered ceiling and a Murano glass chandelier — a room that could as easily be read as Edwardian London as Deccan royalty. Across 60 rooms and suites, the property sustains a convincing continuity between palace archive and hotel present, the two existing less as contrast than as conversation.

"This palatial palace property will give you a glimpse of the royal lifestyle. Big rooms with excellent beds and even bigger bathrooms with top notch toiletries are sure to rejuvenate your mind, body and soul. We went there for a staycation as a group and booked 5 rooms for 1 night. The royal welcome and smooth check in were heartening. The afternoon tea, guided palace tour and evening Qawwali performances were a great experience. AND THAT IS ALL as part of Part of Palace experiences. The biggest letdown is food which you yearn for when staying in a hotel of this stature. The breakfast spread was pretty ordinary ( presentation/ variety/ taste) —nothing home to write about. Food temperatures were not maintained—- Hot dishes were cold and Cold dishes were warm. When pointed out to the Executive Chef he made some silly excuses 😞. We had ala carte lunch at Adaa restaurant and had Biryanis( veg and non-veg ) and Kebabs which were stupendous and service was ok ( definitely below the benchmark for an unofficial 7 star hotel ). The dinner experience ruined by extremely sloppy service and goofiness. The vegetarian dishes ordered from Celeste restaurant were satisfactory but the special non vegetarian dishes ordered from Adaa restaurant were disappointing. We were served Nalli Nihari 45 minutes before the signature bread came 😡( Bakkarkhan— which was nothing short of a big sized partly burnt naan ). Again to compensate us we offered a dessert platter each which we refused as already our appetite had been exhausted. This type of unprofessional attitude is not at all acceptable. In the morning when we went to the swimming pool we had another shocker. The pool though nestled in a thick foliage had dead insects and debris floating and the floor was visibly stained. I think and it’s my sincere wish that Taj management wake up and take some corrective measures rather than dismiss this review after the ritual of reading it so that the hospitality excellence standards associated with the Taj brand is not washed away."
