PB hotel design editorial

Spread across 1.2 square kilometres of the Aravalli foothills south of Delhi, ITC Grand Bharat draws its architectural language from a sequence of India's most formally inventive sacred structures: the Adalaj stepwells of Gujarat, the Mukteshwara temples of Bhubaneswar, the layered stone ghats of Varanasi. The result is a campus of sandstone-toned pavilions arranged in a mandala plan, their shikhara-capped rooflines and colonnaded facades stepping outward from a central pool court in a geometry that reads, from above, as a deliberate act of spatial cosmology. Opened in 2014, the property holds 100 suites and four Presidential Villas across three floors, making it India's first all-suite luxury destination resort, a distinction the scale of the grounds fully justifies. Inside, the interiors navigate the colonial-era India of the imagination with considerable confidence. Guest rooms show carved dark-timber beds with scrolled headboards, tray ceilings lined with floral-patterned wallcoverings, and marble-inlaid floors in a palette of sage, ivory, and warm gold. The grander suites open onto arched windows framing views across the Aravalli scrubland, furnished with hand-knotted wool rugs in Mughal garden motifs and club chairs upholstered in indigo cotton. The bar brings a clubhouse warmth, its mahogany counter columns carved with elephant capitals and its floors covered in richly patterned geometric carpet. A 27-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course extends into the surrounding landscape, and the property carries LEED Platinum certification, threading environmental ambition through what is, architecturally, an act of unapologetic grandeur.
