PB hotel design editorial

Vijay Mallya built this neoclassical manor in the early 2000s on a 66-acre winery outside Pune, with the sphinx-flanked grand staircase, arched colonnades, and cream-and-ochre rendered facade of someone who understood spectacle. That history gives Hotel Irada, which opened in 2026 as a 32-key Design Hotels member, an unusually loaded starting point: a monument to a particular kind of Indian ambition, quietly converted into something far more nuanced. The interiors, handled by a studio from the AD 100, pull the building in an unexpected direction. Walnut-panelled bedroom walls carry a diamond inlay motif that echoes the facade's ornamental detailing while tilting firmly toward midcentury warmth; iron-framed sofas in oatmeal linen sit alongside damask armchairs and glass-topped cocktail tables with wrought-iron bases. The bar features a green marble counter, barley-twist columns, and a floor of polychrome stone in a geometric pattern borrowed from North African tilework, all hung with over 150 curated pieces sourced from Le Puces in Paris and galleries across India. Elsewhere, a scarlet chandelier above a patterned orange rug in one of the villa-category rooms introduces a playful counterpoint to the more composed main-house suites. The pool terrace, lined with burgundy-fringed umbrellas and balustraded arches framing the Sahyadri foothills at dusk, is where the building finally relaxes into its landscape, 4,000 acres of reserve forest pressing in on all sides.

"Our stay at Hotel IRADA – India’s First Design Hotel by Marriott was nothing short of exceptional. We chose this beautiful property to celebrate our daughter’s one-month milestone, and the entire experience exceeded our expectations. From the warm welcome to the thoughtful cake-cutting celebration, every moment felt special. A heartfelt thanks to Chef Tabrez, who went above and beyond to cater to our every food preference. From breakfast to lunch and dinner, every meal was prepared with great care and attention. He ensured that everything was made exactly to our liking and consistently delighted our taste buds throughout the stay. A special mention to Mr. Pankaj, who played a huge role in making our celebration so memorable. His attention to detail, care, and hospitality were truly outstanding. From the beautiful room decoration to ensuring my wife and daughter were comfortable at every step, he made us feel genuinely valued and cared for. As a proud Marriott Bonvoy member, I was also delighted to receive a complimentary room upgrade, which made our celebration even more special. A big thank you to the entire team — Komal, Moe, Annie, Prince, and Sudip — for their warmth, kindness, and impeccable service. A special thanks to Chef Tiwari as well, who thoughtfully packed snacks for our journey back home and made sure our travel was comfortable and safe. It was these little gestures that made such a big difference. Every member of the team contributed to creating beautiful memories that we will cherish forever. Hotel IRADA truly delivers world-class hospitality, and we cannot wait to return again. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a memorable, personalized, and heartwarming stay experience. "Pls read this review before thinking of booking Hotel Irada. 1. The place has no soul or warmth . The staff is sweet and friendly but inefficient . 2. The estate manager , is horrible and unbothered . He couldn’t care whether your experience is good or not . He needs to be sacked immediately . 3. We paid 50,000 for a suit per night, that was tiny , no wine glasses in the room , tv wouldn’t work , bathroom that has a tiny AME toothpaste that will allow u to brush ur teeth only once , shoddy job of the painting in bathroom cubical , no tissue paper in the room , no pen or pencil , and the list would go on . 4. Prices of food items are more than an Oberoi Vilas or Taj palace . 5. The moment we reached we changed our 2 night reservation to 1 by calling marriot customer care , when I first approached the estate manager , he couldn’t care or interested in why I’m leaving early . 6. The hotel got the information that we were unhappy with the place through marriot but the management didn’t care . 7. I’m surprised conde Nast would rate this highly as a design hotel . The place has no design , no aesthetic and no soul. 8. And the BIGGEST mistake , they have no safety or emergency protocol . For example the kids play area is in the midlanding of the staircase without any grills or support or barrier , a child could crawl or clumb the stairs and fall . 9. The rooms Shld have an emergency exit plan that is missing . 10. There are visible electric wires in the kids pool ( seemed to be taped off )"

"Irada felt less like checking into a hotel and more like disappearing into a quiet vineyard retreat for a couple of days. The property has a calm, relaxed vibe that kicks in almost immediately, and that's probably its biggest strength. The rooms are spacious, tastefully done, and very well maintained. More importantly, the staff seem genuinely invested in making guests comfortable rather than simply following a script. Service throughout the stay was attentive without being intrusive, and the Estate Manager appears to be doing a fine job setting the tone. Food was generally very good. Rocco, the Italian restaurant, was the highlight for us. Great ambiance, excellent food quality, and surprisingly good value considering the overall pricing at the property. The Irada Pool Restaurant also serves good food, but the portion sizes felt a bit conservative for the price point. The quality is there; quantity could catch up. Now for the fine print. * Food and beverage prices are on the steeper side, even by luxury hotel standards. * The high tea timing (5:30 pm–6:30 pm) felt unusually late compared to what most resorts typically offer. * The final 2 km approach road was already challenging during our visit, and clearer signage would make arrival far less of an adventure. Would we stay again? Possibly. The bigger question is how the property will perform after a full monsoon cycle. It's still relatively new, and many of its strengths are tied to the outdoor experience. If the approach road was already testing suspensions before the rains, we would be curious to see how it holds up afterwards. Poolside dining, balconies, and other outdoor spaces may also become less usable during extended periods of heavy rain. What we appreciated most was that Irada has its own identity. This one actually leaves an impression."

"A truly unforgettable experience at Hotel Irada! ✨ From the moment we stepped in, the stunning European-inspired aesthetics and warm ambiance made the place feel incredibly elegant yet comforting. Every corner of the hotel reflects thoughtful design, luxury, and attention to detail. The food deserves a special mention — absolutely exceptional. Every dish was beautifully curated, rich in flavor, and crafted to perfection by the incredibly talented chef(Dabir). Both the restaurants IPC and Rosso were outstanding. One of the finest culinary experiences I’ve had in a long time. What made the stay even more memorable was the hospitality. A heartfelt thanks to Moe and Annie for being so welcoming, attentive, and genuinely caring throughout the experience. Their professionalism and warmth added a very personal touch that truly stands out. Hotel Irada is not just a stay, it’s an experience. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates great food, beautiful aesthetics, and world-class hospitality. Looking forward to visiting again soon! 🌟"
