Eighteen floors of glass rising from a canopy of century-old trees alongside the Poona Club Golf Course — the image is almost paradoxical, a crisp corporate tower softened by 100 acres of fairways and monsoon-green foliage stretching to the horizon. Designed by Madhav Joshi and Associates as part of Panchshil Realty's mixed-use development, The Ritz-Carlton, Pune opened in 2019 with a deliberately linear form, its transparent north and south facades functioning less as walls than as wide-angle lenses trained on the landscape below. From the upper-floor suites, the golf course unfolds like a painted ground, and the rooms themselves — conceived by Bangkok-based PIA Interior Company Limited — lean into that theatrical framing with Louis XV-style gilded bed frames, damask wall panels, and tufted ottomans set against floor-to-ceiling glazing that makes the whole arrangement feel faintly cinematic. PIA's interiors move confidently between registers: classically dressed guest rooms with chandelier light and parquet floors sit alongside the hotel's most arresting space, a restaurant where rough-hewn stone columns and layered timber latticework glow amber against a back-lit grid ceiling — an atmosphere closer to a contemporary Japanese izakaya than a conventional hotel dining room. At level 18, the rooftop bar strips everything back to exposed brick, industrial pendant lighting, and open sky, the city spreading low and wide in every direction as Pune's Deccan plateau fades into dusk.
