PB hotel design editorial

At the edge of Ranthambore National Park, where the Aravalli hills fold into tiger country, ten canvas tents rise from the scrub with the unhurried authority of a Mughal encampment — which is precisely the lineage Aman i Khas draws on. The property, opened in 2003 as part of Aman Resorts' gradual conquest of Rajasthan, translates the imperial shikar camp tradition into something stripped of nostalgia and sharpened into contemporary restraint. Each tent, framed by dark-painted steel poles and finished in cream canvas with octagonal apex rooflines, covers a generous footprint that accommodates a living area furnished with teak campaign chairs and leather-strap daybeds alongside the sleeping quarters proper. Inside, the palette is almost aggressively calm — natural linen, undyed cotton, warm teak joinery, and the bronze-finished articulated reading lamps visible beside each bed carrying a faint echo of British colonial utility repurposed without irony. Outdoors, the communal fire pit is built from local rubble stone set into a recessed square terrace, low cushioned seating arranged around a cast-iron bowl that anchors the space against the Aravallis beyond. The pool deck, laid in grey-green sandstone, gives onto dense bamboo groves. Dining happens under established trees on a terrace where canvas director's chairs and white linen cloths avoid any suggestion of the decorative excess that the state's palace hotels routinely deploy. The effect is closer to considered understatement than any kind of theatrical wilderness performance.

"This place was AMAZING! From the moment we arrived, we were pampered. The grounds are beautiful and the tents unbelievably well appointed. Large with high ceilings designed to provide maximum comfort. The staff were similarly AMAZING! Attentive, protective and caring. I can't thank them enough for taking good care of me when I came down with a cold. The thoughtful daily gifts were a surprise and put a smile on our faces. Our safari guide and driver were great too."

"Ok, well I love Aman Hotels. We were really looking forward to this one so here goes, the good, the bad and the honest. Positive points: -Our Batman was awesome, Vijay, this guy is a game changer and makes the resort and the experience perfect. -The tents are super dope, luxury for sure, amazing, picture perfect. Really incredible. -The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. -Our yoga instructor was awesome, if I could grab two people from that resort and employ them it would be ViJay and the Yoga bro, I forget his name but he was great. -Food was great and Vijay was proactive in creating amazing customized meals for us, I was super satisfied and no complaints whatsoever. -The wildlife was incredible, the birds, mongoose, monkeys, bugs, butterflies everything was magical. It was a nature lovers paradise and thats what matters most to us and why we were there. -We had great massages in the spa and I am picky, these were legit massages. Thank you Spa team, you did a great job! Areas of improvement (4 things): A few things went wrong on our stay, normally these wouldn't be a big deal but if you are paying USD2k a night you don't expect these difficulties. -Our bathtub jammed in the on position, our batman was gone, and we had to wait 40 minutes or more for staff to come shut it off. This threw a "wrench" into our calculated day plans and given we had only two days, time was valuable. This set us back and upset our timing on a few things. -I had planned a yoga session, was waiting for someone to come take me to the yoga area as they said they would do and nobody showed up, so I wandered the resort for 45 minutes trying to find the location. This was super annoying, given our timeline I was pretty unhappy with this. That said they made up for it with a solid yoga session with the yoga instructor who is great. -Hair: We had hair in shower stuck to the wall and the loofah package when we arrived, we pointed this out, they replaced the loofah. This is Aman, no bueno, this should just not happen, ever at Aman. -We were given the Centurion AMEX letter by accident when we arrived, when it should have been the Amex platinum FHR letter. They swapped it out without us seeing, not a big deal but it was confusing for us, I would have appreciated them just stating they made a mistake and changing the letter. -Safari: I booked a private 3.5 hour safari tour for $1,000 as opposed to the inexpensive group tours (that consisted of crowded buses full of loud tourists and children) clearly because we prefer privacy and exclusivity. I had hoped our guide was a little more pro-active, enthusiastic and assertive in chasing great photos. Instead he followed the crew of massive tour buses full of screaming tourists and children and then parked next to them (actually behind them), until we had to complain to get him to be proactive and move the vehicle. In fact if my wife hadn't said anything I think we would have sat with the tour buses all afternoon and got some distance shots of the tiger. This was laziness in my opinion, Aman needs to up their game here, this booking was cool because it was new to us, but honestly they need better proactive third party guides and telescopic cameras. These guides need to be trained to meet Aman standards, if I wanted to be in a crowd of average, I would stay at the Sheraton and take the tour bus full of crying kids for $50. -The final piece I didn't like was our driver from Aman-i-Khas to the Jaipur airport pulled his sales pitch on us. I was extremely clear before departure I didn't want to buy anything prior to leaving, this is an India thing, expect everyone to attempt their side hustle on you. I expect Aman hotels to shut this down and do as the guests request. The driver on arrival to Jaipur started his sales pitch on gems and precious stones and his connections in Jaipur on jewellery, stones and how much he was making with his 1% commission. Honestly it was super off-putting. Is Aman advocating this? Is this guy really working for the hotel or himself? So many questions! It was odd as he tried to say he can video call gems to us and we can send him money. Maybe this is just an India thing but its sketchy and if I want to buy gems I would go to Cartier in NYC where we live. Not some unknown side of Jaipur highway, send USD by wire. The guy probably thought he was doing nothing wrong because many in India do this, but I hold Aman hotels to the highest standard and they should reign this in. I specifically and clearly requested I did NOT want the sales pitch and wanted direct airport transfer and yet here it was. All in all I would say it was a positive experience. I have friends going there in the coming months and I think they will have a great time. This review is more to get Aman to tweak those little points that make the experience that much more "Aman"perfection. I would recommend this unique hotel and the beautiful tent experience. 3 days is about all you need here. I would give this hotel 4.5 stars and if they address the improvement points above this is easily 5 stars. See my review on Amanbagh for the second India property which was exceptional and where we planned a short stay and moved in for many more days!"

"This is a very special place with an extraordinary staff. If you want to go on a tiger safari, do not separate yourself from nature in a hotel. These luxurious “tents” are sublime. My Batman, Kaseem “KC” was amazing. He anticipated my every move. Indulge. Hire a driver from the Aman to pick you up and return you to the airport. The food was superb and there is no worry about belly issues. Aman-I-Khas is a must if you’re going to Ranthambore National Park."
