PB hotel design editorial

Built on a four-acre natural island at the centre of Lake Pichola, the white marble palace that became the Taj Lake Palace was commissioned by Maharana Jagat Singh II of Mewar in 1746 as a pleasure retreat — a place of leisure and ceremony entirely surrounded by water, with the Aravalli Hills as its permanent backdrop. What makes the property so singular is not merely its setting but the fact that the architecture was always conceived as a kind of floating apparition, its colonnaded facades and chattri-topped pavilions designed to dissolve into their own reflection. Managed by the Taj Hotels group since 1971, the palace was converted into a hotel with 83 rooms and suites without disturbing the essential geometry of its Rajput and Mughal-inflected form. Inside, the rooms move between registers: some suites carry deep-carved teak friezes running along corniced ceilings, black-and-white marble floors laid in bold chevron patterns, and four-poster beds beneath crystal chandeliers, while lake-facing rooms offer hand-painted wall murals of birds and flowering branches, polished Makrana marble underfoot, and arched window alcoves wide enough to sit in and watch the water. The rooftop pool, framed by a scallop-arched colonnade and a domed Rajput pavilion topped with white marble figures, frames the City Palace and surrounding ghats in a composition that manages to feel intimate rather than monumental. In the bar, jali marble screens and cane-and-teak furniture hold the Mewar craft tradition lightly, without theatre.

"We visit the Neel Kamal Resturant at Taj Lake Palace Udaipur and the place is intricately detailed, the tables, the ceiling, the floor, the cutlery - everything on point. The service and food leaves nothing to complaint, The shorba sweetness and saltness balance, the aroma of briyani with buttermilk and especially the rose kulfi, everything just melts in you mouth and every flavour hits differently. A special thanks to Chef Muskan for catering the taste according to our preference and Suhana mam for delivering excellent service with meaningful suggestions both times at Jharokha Resturant and Neelkamal. Overall, truly once in a lifetime experience at Taj Lake Palace Udaipur. Truly felt a royalty dinning experience.😁"

"Our stay at Taj Lake Palace was truly unforgettable. We stayed in Room 121, one of the most beautiful suites, and the entire ambience of the palace was absolutely magical. What made the experience even more special was the exceptional hospitality of the staff. Everyone was warm, attentive, and always ready to help, making us feel genuinely cared for throughout our stay. A very special mention to Surendra, whose kindness, professionalism, and constant attention to every little detail made a lasting impression on us. He went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was comfortable and memorable. His warm nature and dedication truly reflect the legendary Taj hospitality. Heartfelt thanks as well to the housekeeping team, Chef Anop, Sneha, Amit, Nirjala, and the restaurant team for their wonderful service. A stay we will cherish forever! Thanks"
