PB hotel design editorial

On the eastern shore of Lake Pichola, directly across the water from the Taj Lake Palace and with the City Palace rising on the hillside beyond, few hotel addresses in Rajasthan carry a more loaded visual conversation. The Leela Palace Udaipur, which opened in 2009, was conceived as a new-build interpretation of Mewar palace architecture — chhatri-crowned pavilions, arched colonnades, and sandstone-toned facades arranged along the lakefront in a composition that, seen from the water at night, presents as a coherent extension of Udaipur's historic skyline rather than a contemporary intrusion. The interiors draw deeply on Rajput craft traditions: hand-painted miniature works mounted in the guest rooms, ikat-patterned bed runners in deep saffron and crimson, dark-stained timber balcony screens carved in chevron lattice patterns, and plasterwork cornices with leaf-relief detailing visible across the ceilings. Across 80 rooms and suites spread over five floors, the palette settles into warm amber, bronze, and ivory — materials that absorb the lake light filtering through sheer gold drapes. The pool deck, tiled in a bold cobalt-and-white geometric pattern that echoes traditional Rajasthani tilework, runs toward the water's edge with the Lake Palace floating in the middle distance. At the Sheesh Mahal restaurant terrace, hand-block-printed fabric awnings stretched between raking timber poles shelter diners from the evening sky while keeping the City Palace framed, deliberately and precisely, within the view.

"Poor swimming pool arrangement..it had depth of 5 fedt and 7 inch from start to end.. Its the most basic thing that pools in resort are for leisure and not for swimmers... Their was hardly anyone who could enjoy the pool..basically its a property without the pool"

"The hospitality was excellent! Aaditya and Leewang were a wonderful team —very kind, helpful, and always attentive to our needs. He goes above and beyond to arrange everything we need and makes sure we feel comfortable throughout our stay. Their warm and caring nature made the experience truly pleasant. Highly recommended!"

"I had a wonderful time in the hotel! The staff is genuinely so warm and caring, accommodated for everything. The place is magical and beautiful, right from the start we felt welcomed. Just one thing to flag though, my father felt temporarily unwell, so we needed doctor’s assurance. While most other hotels I’ve stayed in the past had a free on in-house doctor, sadly this hotel didn’t have one. Additionally I was told the charges were INR 2000 for a doctor to arrive in 30 mins, which honestly isn’t a big ask but when I pay for luxury, the comfort of knowing a doctor is around when needed is a big luxury for me. What was even more disappointing is that the hotel didn’t have a BP monitor or oxymeter, something which every household has these days, again I believe this isn’t a big ask when we are choosing a property for luxury. It’s always easy to handle an aftermath, the chef was kind enough to get us specific food and we got a “get well soon card” but the 30 mins delay to get a doctor in a more serious situation would’ve costed us far more. So yes I respect the hospitality and service in good times, but on a serious note if you’re travelling with elders please take a note of no basic medical amenity or doctor available."

"Excellent service . Aditya Singh was there from the start until our departure. Was around the whole time and was very responsive . He and his staff were available all the time. He was very polite and took care of things quickly. Leewang was another person I would like to compliment for his prompt response. Always calm and collected with a very pleasant attitude. They both made our stay the best in a long time. Great place with great food and excellent views Will visit again and hoping to see Aditya and Leewang in managerial roles"
