PB hotel design editorial

When Ed Tuttle conceived the original Amanusa on Bali's Nusa Dua peninsula in 1992, he drew the architecture directly from the aristocratic compound tradition of southern Bali — low pavilions arranged around courts, alang-alang thatch pulled low over deeply shaded verandahs, pale Balinese sandstone used for walls and colonnades rather than polished surfaces. The Aman Villas at Nusa Dua, a cluster of freestanding private residences woven into the Amanusa grounds, carries that same language forward at a more intimate scale, each villa configured as its own walled compound with a dedicated lap pool, teak sun deck, and open-sided bale dining pavilion overlooking the Nirwana golf course. Inside, the rooms layer handsome Balinese craft details against the mineral calm of checkerboard marble floors — local stone cut in alternating warm and cool tones — while four-poster beds draped in white mosquito net hang beneath alang-alang ceilings woven into radial patterns that concentrate the eye upward. Teak louvred shutters and dark-stained timber joinery frame each opening onto the gardens, the furniture mixing Balinese carved case pieces with rattan desk chairs and teak campaign-style tables. The palette throughout — raw stone, aged teak, ivory linen, ochre ikat throws — keeps the architecture in charge, the vegetation of frangipanis and bougainvillea doing as much compositional work as anything drawn or built.

"Hardware was stunning, slight issue with mosquito net on the first night but they quickly fixed it. Service was good but nothing special, but food was the major let down. Most of the meaty dishes, i.e. Chicken, fish fillets, pork etc were overcooked at all meals. We tried to ask for off menu items and were simply told it wasn't possible. We booked the tour to the Uluwatu temple and we asked the driver if we could hire for a local guide, and he said he was one and then proceeded to just walk us through the temple without a single word or care at all. We were "upgraded" from 3 bedroom to the 4 bedroom Villa #5 with the 50m pool which was nice, but we were told to pay $1,125++ per night if we wanted to use the 4th bedroom (coincidentally the master bedroom). We still had a really good time and enjoyed the stay there, but it didn't really anything special at all. It could've been any other nice resort anywhere in the world instead of at an Aman. Would most likely not go back."

"Stayed here for a few days to celebrate a couple important events and was very satisfied with everything. Every little things were taken care smoothly. From the smooth reservation process, airport pick up to the villa, arrival greeting from the GM and villa team and during our whole stay. The resort was kind enough to arrange a few cars to pick us up as our group arrived in different flights. Despite the age of the resort, everything in the villa was still in very great condition and very clean. Villa is also very huge, especially when it’s only 4 of us staying during the trip. Would like to say thankyou to our butler, Mr.Messi, for taking care of us and always there at unlogical times sometimes. Our water was changed before the ice was completely melted and there’s a few occasion that we came back to the villa at dawn and he was still there to greet us back. Of course this is not something surprising as Aman is very famous with their impeccable service. Would love to visit the villa back again for a weekend retreat."

"We were staying there for 1 night since we have booked Amandari for our following days. This is really huge. They have private butler to help you during the stay and you can ask him to buy food outside the property. The size of the villa is massive. 4000m2 is only for you, that means your privacy is kept. The size of swimming pool is massive and again, that is for you. Definately I will stay again there if Im looking for silence and privacy."

"Second half of our CNY trip - relocating from Amandari to Aman Villas at Nusa Dua. Different experience from Amandari. Due to the timing and hence occupancy we were treated to the main bedroom in a four bedroom villa with access to the rest of the villa. As the other bedrooms were empty we had sole access to the whole villa which includes the main pavilion, library, dining bale, spa and the 25m pool as well as dedicated butler service who take care of everything. Perfection. The butlers were fantastic. We also had access to the Revivo resort - a short walk away. The butlers do much much everything and take care of guests every need from arranging transport to and from the resort, booking restaurants or treatments at the Revivo resort and taking care of our in villa dining arrangements. Breakfast was a bit limiting in terms of choice and quality but dinner - we had one dinner in villa - was fantastic. As we were in Bali we also ate out a number of occasions - the local fare is fantastic and very reasonably priced. You can choose to stay in resort as frankly all your needs are taken care of. As we had the villa all to ourselves I dare say we used it fully. The library provided a great workspace too for the few hours I had to put in."

"Went there with friends for an occasion. A bit far but this place is so beautiful. So many trees, flowers and sound of birds around and still natural view. We didn’t try the food because of short staying but the service is superb. They are full of manners and very friendly. This place is also good for families with massive swimming pool and the important one is very clean. Very recommended. 👍"
