PB hotel design editorial

Strung across a hillside above one of Bali's most storied fishing bays, a village of 147 thatched-roof villas descends toward the Indian Ocean in a composition that owes more to Balinese sacred architecture than to conventional resort planning. The Four Seasons Bali at Jimbaran Bay, which opened in 1993 to designs by Balinese architect Hendra Hadiprana, treats the traditional meru tower and alang-alang thatched pavilion not as decorative gestures but as the structural grammar of the entire property. From the aerial, the scale of the ambition is immediately legible — each villa a discrete compound disappearing into the tropical canopy, the whole arranged so that the beachfront infinity pool and its open-sided restaurant pavilion anchor a shoreline otherwise given over entirely to white sand and breaking surf. Inside the villas, the vocabulary is consistent and precise: steeply pitched joglo-style ceilings lined with woven bamboo matting, carved grey paras stone panels set into whitewashed walls, wide-plank teak floors, and four-poster beds draped in white voile that catches the coastal breeze through sliding timber doors. The open-air dining pavilion shown in the images deploys woven rattan pendant lights and split-bamboo ceiling ribs in a way that feels entirely continuous with the surrounding architecture rather than layered on top of it. Hadiprana's achievement was to demonstrate that international luxury hospitality and Balinese spatial tradition need not compromise each other — a proposition that every subsequent resort on this island has been measured against.

"One day, someone told me that it is better to buy experiences than objects, because experiences stay engraved in our memories for life. This is exactly what Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay delivers. From the moment we arrived at the airport until the very end of our stay, we felt completely taken care of. Every single staff member goes above and beyond to make your stay unforgettable. A special mention to KC, who upon our arrival not only immediately organized our departure transfer, but also proactively arranged a late check out for us because our flight was at 5pm, without us even having to ask. This level of anticipation and care is what truly makes the experience exceptional and unforgettable. We were upgraded to a stunning ocean view villa. Honestly, the villa itself was so beautiful that it made us want to stay there all day. The private pool and patio were simply perfect. The main beachfront pool is also massive and extremely pleasant. The breakfast was absolutely gargantuan, with an incredible variety of options. My only small remark is that my rate included breakfast, but I was not entirely sure whether the à la carte items were included or not, as prices were displayed on the menu we received. I did not ask because the buffet already offered so much choice, but a small explanation when being seated would have been appreciated. Also worth mentioning, the glass of prosecco at breakfast is charged separately, whereas in several other hotels of this category where I stayed it was included. To be fair, the quality was excellent and the price remained very reasonable. I also loved the village atmosphere created by the dispersed villas across the property. The lush tropical vegetation is absolutely magnificent. My partner also attended the beachfront yoga class and absolutely loved it. I would also like to thank Martini for all the thoughtful little attentions during our stay. Transportation organized by the hotel is of course a bit more expensive than local alternatives, but you immediately feel fully taken care of, with cold towels, water, and even WiFi in the car. Honestly, it is definitely worth it. We will definitely come back."

"We come to Bali a few times a year and after staying at the Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay this will be the only place we stay now. The service is honestly on another level. Not in a try-hard way, just really genuine and natural. One example — I asked where a restaurant was and the guy I asked (turned out to be Mr Aditya, Director of Rooms… which I didn’t realise at the time) actually walked me there. It was like a 10 min walk… for someone that busy, you just don’t see that. Says everything about how they run the place. Kids club was amazing too. Properly good, not just something they say they have. Makes it so easy with kids. Food was great across the board and the whole vibe of the place is just what you want in Bali, especially in the evenings. It’s not a brand new hotel and you can tell in parts, but honestly the service more than makes up for it. Didn’t bother us at all. Couldn’t recommend it more highly. We won’t stay anywhere else now."

"Had an awesome stay in this property we stayed here for 4 nights after shifting from the W in Seminyak. Well all I can say is the property is massive and beautiful the scenery is stunning and the views are amazing. Has an old school Four seasons charm with slight renovations required but awesome place. Staff is great as in most Four seasons. All in it was worth it and will be back in future."

"We traveled around Singapore, Bali and Lombok. The Four Seasons Jimbaron had the best customer service we experienced. The staff was kind, attentive, prompt and a joy to be around. The rooms were very nice. We had a pool that was mostly secluded. We did not think we would use it, but were in it every chance we got. The toiletries were a wonderful Bali fragrance. The grounds are well kept. The have carts to take guests around the resort to different restaurants, pools, spas, etc. We chose to walk, which was very comfortable. We would come back to Bali just to stay here again."
