PB hotel design editorial

Strung across a hillside above one of Bali's most storied fishing bays, a village of 147 thatched-roof villas descends toward the Indian Ocean in a composition that owes more to Balinese sacred architecture than to conventional resort planning. The Four Seasons Bali at Jimbaran Bay, which opened in 1993 to designs by Balinese architect Hendra Hadiprana, treats the traditional meru tower and alang-alang thatched pavilion not as decorative gestures but as the structural grammar of the entire property. From the aerial, the scale of the ambition is immediately legible — each villa a discrete compound disappearing into the tropical canopy, the whole arranged so that the beachfront infinity pool and its open-sided restaurant pavilion anchor a shoreline otherwise given over entirely to white sand and breaking surf. Inside the villas, the vocabulary is consistent and precise: steeply pitched joglo-style ceilings lined with woven bamboo matting, carved grey paras stone panels set into whitewashed walls, wide-plank teak floors, and four-poster beds draped in white voile that catches the coastal breeze through sliding timber doors. The open-air dining pavilion shown in the images deploys woven rattan pendant lights and split-bamboo ceiling ribs in a way that feels entirely continuous with the surrounding architecture rather than layered on top of it. Hadiprana's achievement was to demonstrate that international luxury hospitality and Balinese spatial tradition need not compromise each other — a proposition that every subsequent resort on this island has been measured against.

"Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay is a hotel that has maintained a high level of service over the years. I stayed there two years ago, and this time it was just as good—maybe even better. The resort is located in a more tranquil area of Bali, where you can also get a glimpse of Balinese rural life, as a village is very close by. This combination of staying in a luxurious place while still being connected to the local atmosphere is very special. The resort has direct beach access, and at sunset you can observe local life—families coming to the beach, enjoying the moment, laughing, and playing in the sea. The beach is long and beautiful, although it’s a pity that some garbage is brought in by the water at certain times of the day. The resort offers excellent facilities: a gym, a serene spa, garden pools, and a beachfront pool. It is a trust-based hotel, which makes it easy to relax, connect, and feel at home. They truly value Balinese culture—you can see it in the way the staff talk about their work. There is also a temple in the resort where daily offerings take place, and a priest performs ceremonies. They are very generous: every day we found little treats and gifts in our villa—they really spoiled us. The staff is incredibly kind. They pay attention to details and take the time to get to know you. You can ask for anything, and they will do their best to make you feel at home. The breakfast is extensive, with local, Indian, Indonesian, Asian, and international options. The staff are flexible and friendly—I enjoy having a late breakfast, and they were very accommodating, even serving coffee and drinks after closing time. They also offer local jamu and other traditional drinks. They offer complimentary classes such as yoga, Balinese offerings, Balinese dance, cooking, and cocktail making. There is a beautiful yoga shala facing the ocean. The manager of the hidden bar, located in an intimate garden, is a Romanian who can prepare any cocktail you can imagine. He has deep knowledge of local and international spirits, herbs, and ingredients, and how to combine them. He is very friendly and generous. The garden restaurant serving Balinese and Indonesian cuisine is very cozy. They can also prepare dishes not on the menu if you inform them a day in advance. There is also a restaurant by the beach that is more modern and lively rather than traditional. They have live music in the evening. I’m not very fond of the band concept in the resorts, but it’s a matter of personal taste. Thank you, once again, I’ve enjoyed the staying there!"

"Rarely I give five stars and five diamonds to a property , but this one really deserves it. We got a warm and personalized welcome from Pak Yudi , the front office manager , with a suprise advanced birthday present for me . An upgrade to the Premium ocean pool villa. The welcome amenities, the room , the bathroom with the couple bathtub and the outside garden shower are immaculate. But the highlight is the private pool , the gazebo and the breathtaking view of Jimbaran bay . Do not miss Sundara the dining beach venue of the resort. The service, view and food are impeccable. The breakfast is awesome and also the pool just below. What is making the difference in Four Seasons Jimbaran is the team , their warm hospitality, genuine smile, professionalism and loyalty to the property. Thank you for making my stay an exceptional one. Verdict: a must place to stay in bali , just 20 minutes from airport. We will be back and strongly recommend it to all our friends. Well done , Four Seasons Jimbaran Bali"

"We stayed here as part of our babymoon and had a wonderful stay! The villa was spacious and charming, with a plunge pool and lovely outdoor area overlooking the ocean. The service throughout our stay was exceptional - team members remembered us and took care of our every little need. For instance, the team placed a pregnancy pillow in the room without us even asking. Meals in the hotel were also great - especially memorable was Sundara, both for the setting and for the food. The chef was kind enough to accommodate off menu vegetarian requests and those turned out fantastic as well. Overall highly recommend!"

"We stay here 5 nights after experience the first 5 nights at the Four Seasons Resort Bali At Sayan. So we went from the jungle towards the beach. The resort is huge - it is arranged like a village - we stayed in a Premier Villa (we booked a garden villa but gut an upgrade). The Villa was amazing - huge. The outdoor shower was a nice add-on. Very spacious., The whole resort is very well maintained - lot's of dining options. Like in the Four Seasons Resort Bali At Sayan the staff members were so friendly. Everybody is greeting you with a smile. I'd like to mention to staff members: Era was soll friendly in the breakfast area and Chef Surya at the Jala restaurant. Here we experienced a 4.5 hour cooking class making Balinese food - amazing; we started with a tour though the herb gardens and then prepared together the fresh lunch which we ended with a Balinese Coffee tasting whilst chatting with Chef Surya. Simply great ! We also used the SPA which was also great. Restraurants like the Sundara which beach front view, Jala (small one) and Taman Wantilan (main restaurant and breakfast) are all recommended. One night we just stayed at the TELA and had some really nice - sustainable, zero waste - cocktails - a must visit from our point of of view - either you order some drink from the menu are you just ask for a surprise cocktail - you'll not regret it. Overall, another amazing stay at one of the Four Seasons in Bali."
