PB hotel design editorial

Spread across a ridgeline above the sawah fields of Ubud's Kelusa district, with Gunung Agung and Gunung Batur rising through morning haze on the horizon, the property that became Gdas Bali Health and Wellness Resort was shaped around a single governing idea: that the landscape itself is the primary therapeutic agent. The architecture earns that ambition. Villa pavilions step down the hillside in a linear sequence, their dark-stained timber louvred screens and volcanic paras stone walls absorbing rather than imposing on the surrounding green. Pointed metal roof forms punctuate the ridge in a contemporary riff on traditional Balinese thatched meru profiles, while full-height frameless glazing dissolves the boundary between sleeping quarters and the paddies that extend to the horizon. Inside, the material palette runs to warm teak strip ceilings, polished grey volcanic stone floors, and verde marble washbasins — textures that feel locally grounded without resorting to pastiche. Ikat-weave bed runners in saffron and crimson introduce Balinese textile culture as the single decorative gesture against otherwise restrained linen and timber surfaces. The restaurant's curved timber-lined ceiling and floor-to-ceiling glazing give the room the atmosphere of a pavilion suspended between terrace and canopy, furnished with low-backed teak chairs and rattan pendants. At the pool terrace, teak sun loungers and white-draped cabana frames line a dark-edged lap pool, the rice fields beginning immediately where the lawn ends — a boundary so deliberate it feels designed to remind guests exactly where they are.

"This wellness resort really does have it all done right. The fitness center is probably the best in Bali, the various pools at different temperatures, saunas, spa, treatments...it is a relaxation paradise surrounded by lush vegetation and rice fields. The vegan restaurant is amazing. While I'm not vegan, I didnt feel that I was missing out when eating my meals here. Shout out to the tofu benedict. Complementary car service to Ubud central is on a schedule and was adequate. The service and professionalism of the staff cannot be compared to any other; simply outstanding. The rooms have ample space but are not sound proof. I could hear people from downstairs and next door from time to time and the rain will wake you up. Not enough of a deterrent in my opinion. I really enjoyed this place."

"The location was nice and quiet on the guest side with the rice fields. Was shocked on arrival to see a hundred people in the main pool area and a DJ. It was not advertised as open to the public with pool parties on Saturday and Sunday so I was definitely taken aback from the beginning. However I spent most of my time away from the main area the first few days to avoid the crowd and participated in Sunrise Walking and Chakra Yoga on the opposite side which was so lovely. All organised and booked with mindfulness by the beautiful Indah. Indah took great care of me travelling alone and made sure that I was reminded of my schedule and made changes on the fly as required to get the bets outcome. My first massage was in the very front room of the Spa Centre and, unfortunately, timed poorly with the DJ starting just as I layed down and was not so relaxing. My second massage was pure magic. Desi was the absolute best masseuse and had me so relaxed and calm that I did end up falling asleep. During my stay I did: - Welcome Ceremony with the Balinese Priest - Sunrise Walking - Chakra Yoga - Cryotherapy - IV Drip - Meapun massage - Full body massage - Foot massage (after walking from in town, shopping, then home) - Aromatherapy session - 1/2 day shopping - Purification ceremony with a 1/2 day tour guide (went to Umah Coffee and lunch outside of Ubud) - Hot / Cold plunge pool The rooms were beautifully presented and welcoming. I loved spending evenings reading the different Bedtime Stories left on the bed with the turn down service. Afternoon tea was provided daily and was always different. The vegan food was amazing. I am mostly vegan normally however this food was incredible from the breakfast to the customised meal plan for me. Indah had me sorted and I never went hungry. Would definitely come back again for my relaxing and reset between business in Australia and business in Bali, but not on the weekend. A great reset time away."

"What a great experience it was! Huge amount of facilities. Very clean and appreciate that the pool didn’t have strong (or any?) chemicals. All vegan menu and food was delicious. And my favorite part was the big smiles on all the staff that were a nice warm welcome every breakfast. Staff was the best, our team will miss them! Inda was especially helpful and our team is thankful to all her help. Mahalo Gdas team!"

"I have been working out, going to yoga, eating, and chilling at Gdas Bali for 3 months. I was looking for a gym and found a lifestyle. It's the vibe, people, and activities. Nicole's hot yoga classes are some of the best I've ever done. Love the cold plunge, biohacking, and especially the wonderful staff."
