PB hotel design editorial

Spread across a ridgeline above the sawah fields of Ubud's Kelusa district, with Gunung Agung and Gunung Batur rising through morning haze on the horizon, the property that became Gdas Bali Health and Wellness Resort was shaped around a single governing idea: that the landscape itself is the primary therapeutic agent. The architecture earns that ambition. Villa pavilions step down the hillside in a linear sequence, their dark-stained timber louvred screens and volcanic paras stone walls absorbing rather than imposing on the surrounding green. Pointed metal roof forms punctuate the ridge in a contemporary riff on traditional Balinese thatched meru profiles, while full-height frameless glazing dissolves the boundary between sleeping quarters and the paddies that extend to the horizon. Inside, the material palette runs to warm teak strip ceilings, polished grey volcanic stone floors, and verde marble washbasins — textures that feel locally grounded without resorting to pastiche. Ikat-weave bed runners in saffron and crimson introduce Balinese textile culture as the single decorative gesture against otherwise restrained linen and timber surfaces. The restaurant's curved timber-lined ceiling and floor-to-ceiling glazing give the room the atmosphere of a pavilion suspended between terrace and canopy, furnished with low-backed teak chairs and rattan pendants. At the pool terrace, teak sun loungers and white-draped cabana frames line a dark-edged lap pool, the rice fields beginning immediately where the lawn ends — a boundary so deliberate it feels designed to remind guests exactly where they are.

"Beautiful and peaceful stay off the beaten path in Ubud, central Bali. Mas is just what you need when looking to escape a busy city lifestyle. The villa with pool was another level of luxury - stellar views, bed, pool, lounges, and outdoor bath and shower with Japanese bidet toilets. The real standout at GDAS is their staff! Special shout out to Agung our main man - tour guide, hospitality expert, local historian and friend ❤️ we felt cared for daily and his enthusiasm and knowledge is unmatched. Also a big thank you to Ani, who served smiles at breakfast every morning. Gede at the front desk with some local hot tips, Deni & Murdana who were kind, helpful and made feel us at home. There’s plenty more to thank. The entire property was so special with a brilliant kitchen team, spa staff, and thoughtful wellness facilities. 100% looking forward to coming back in the future"

"6 star treatment best describes our experience at Gdas, everything was above our expectations, Dayu made our entire time completely seamless, if you ever need a host request Miss Dayu. We are not vegans but after dining at Gdas for our entire time one has to start thinking about what have we missed out on for so many years. The deep tissue massage was the best we have experienced for many years. Our pool villa was spotless, the process for cleaning is carried out twice a day, the communication between Miss Dayu and her team is so good and precise that you are not aware when the cleaning is carried out. The use of the additional treatments is shared by day users so do book in advance. Overall we cannot wait to come back to Gdas and experience the Health retreat again."

"Our stay at GDAS Health & Wellness Resort was truly unforgettable. The resort felt like a small village of its own, surrounded by nature and designed to offer complete peace and relaxation. Everything was thoughtfully planned, from the modern gym and beautiful swimming pools to the sauna and spa. Every facility was excellent and made our stay even more enjoyable. However, what impressed us the most was the kindness and genuine hospitality of every staff member. Everyone greeted us with warm smiles and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. A special thank you goes to our personal assistant, Juna. From the moment we arrived until we checked out, he took exceptional care of us. No matter what time we contacted him, he was always kind, patient, and quick to help with every request. His attentiveness made our stay incredibly comfortable and stress-free, and we truly felt cared for throughout our visit. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Juna once again. He played a huge part in making this trip so memorable. Thank you, GDAS, for such an amazing experience. We hope to return again in the future!"

"Wow, what an incredible experience. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by the amazing staff and introduced to our wonderful personal concierge and now friend, Juna! Juna is such an incredible gentlemen. He introduced us to Uncle Rush (who chatted with us while working out and gave us a free cyro. He connected with us each day and even added some humor to our Cryo experience when we finally decided to take it.) The property, food and amenities are incredible. They are very close to Ubud Centre and have free shuttle rides there each day from 10-9. Juna! I could go on and on about how incredible he is… kind, resourceful, responsive, engaging, hilarious, friendly and thoughtful. By the end of the trip we were sad to leave and it was clear that we had a friend for life. If you go to Gdas be sure to get the concierge service and ask for Juna. Gdas is a one of kind place, Juna is a 1 of 1 gentleman and Bali in and of itself if one of the world’s gems. Go now! We can’t wait to return and repeat all of the experiences we had during our honeymoon."
