A Nusa Dua beachfront resort where traditional Balinese joinery and craftsmanship anchor St. Regis formality.

Best for: Collectors and aesthetes seeking Balinese craftsmanship

Highlights:

  • Hand-carved timber beds and batik-printed rugs in suites
  • Joglo-influenced architecture with alang-alang thatching as structural grammar
  • Beachfront restaurant with Javanese shadow puppets as sculptural screens

PB hotel design editorial

Balinese craftsmanship and the formal conventions of a St. Regis address make an unlikely but convincing alliance along the white-sand coastline of Nusa Dua. The St. Regis Bali Resort, which opened in 2008 across eleven hectares of beachfront gardens, resolves that tension through architecture that takes traditional alang-alang thatching and steeply pitched joglo-influenced rooflines seriously as structural grammar rather than decorative gesture. The landscaping, dense with frangipani, coconut palms, and mature tropical planting, gives the resort the feeling of a private estate that has been there considerably longer than it has — pools edged in dark volcanic stone descending in terraced steps toward the beach, red-umbrellaed sun loungers glimpsed through foliage rather than arranged in institutional rows. Inside, the 123 suites and villas move between two registers. Some rooms carry the warmth of hand-carved dark timber four-poster beds, woven bamboo ceiling panels, floral batik-printed rugs, and wayang kulit shadow puppet figures worked into room dividers — a thoroughly Balinese vocabulary applied with considerable care. Others shift toward a more international luxury idiom: tufted velvet ottomans in teal, gilded chandeliers dripping above woven-grass ceilings, etched mirror panels behind the headboard. The beachfront restaurant maintains the balance most successfully, floor-to-ceiling glazing flooding a white-painted double-height dining room with Indian Ocean light while traditional Javanese shadow puppets hang as sculptural screens between tables.

"I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. We experienced the best customer service we have EVER had in a hotel and we have stayed at some luxurious hotels in our time! We stayed in a garden king villa with a private pool and this room gave us everything that we needed for a perfect stay. The beach was great. The lagoon pool was amazing and truly a hidden gem. We had Sunday brunch in Kayuputi on my birthday and it was sublime! The food was never ending and we just loved it. They put balloons and cake in my room for my birthday. You get a couple of items free ironing per person per day which was turned around so fast! The butlers can’t do enough for you. The breakfast and evening buffet in Boneka is amazing. The staff all learned our names really quickly. The guys driving the buggy are so friendly. We watched sunrise at the end of the beach on a morning and ended each day with their champagne toast at sunset. We had a complementary transfer back to the airport in their luxury vehicle and even at the airport a member of the team greets you by name and makes sure you get checked in! (And Bali airport itself is fabulous by the way!). We did the morning bike ride with the fitness guy (whose name I’ve forgotten but he shared same birthday as me!). He was so lovely and we saw a great bit of the coastline. The waiter in the the Gourmand Deli on our last night was so friendly and had a hilarious sense of humour! He made our night! The shop has everything you could wish for. We only stayed five nights and did not leave the resort once other than the bike ride. Why would you want to leave paradise when you have it all on site. I would love to go back here. Thank you to all the team for our amazing stay. We really hope to be back."

"This was our third stay at The St. Regis Bali Resort, and once again, it reminded us why we keep coming back. During our previous visits, we stayed in a Gardenia Villa, but this time we chose a Lagoon Pool Villa—and we would book it again without hesitation. Having direct access to the lagoon pool made our stay even more relaxing. The resort is simply breathtaking. The lush tropical gardens are beautifully maintained and create a truly peaceful atmosphere. Compared to a neighboring luxury hotel, which felt rather soulless to us, The St. Regis Bali Resort has a unique charm. It is a place that immediately makes you feel calm, relaxed, and completely at ease. The beach is stunning, wide, and never feels crowded. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in Nusa Dua and perfect for long walks or simply enjoying the ocean. The resort itself is showing its age in some areas, but it is exceptionally well maintained and has lost none of its elegance or beauty. Our only disappointment was the food service. On several occasions, our meals arrived only lukewarm or cold, and the waiting times were often much longer than expected. After mentioning it a few times, we eventually stopped complaining, as we did not want to spoil our holiday. This was the only aspect that did not meet the otherwise very high standards of the resort. The gym is also a little on the small side, although it is well equipped for a holiday workout. One small suggestion regarding the Vilebrequin partnership: The resort’s Instagram showcases exclusive St. Regis x Vilebrequin apparel, which naturally led us to believe that these items would be available for purchase at the resort or that there would be a dedicated boutique. Unfortunately, neither was the case. It would be a wonderful addition if guests had the opportunity to purchase these exclusive pieces during their stay. Despite these minor issues, we had another wonderful stay and are already looking forward to returning. For us, The St. Regis Bali Resort remains one of the most beautiful and relaxing places to stay in Bali."

"Stayed 3 nights, and was a fantastic experience! We had a villa with pool. The villa was very large, and beautiful. It had living area, 2 bathrooms, large bedroom with a canopy style netted bed, small bar area, small kitchen area, a front Courtyard, and a large relaxing area in the back with pool, loungers , table and other relaxing areas. Each villa also was looked after by your own butler. As an example one evening we wanted tea, which was delivered to our room. Staying here was such wonderful experience, and we would certainly do it again! The beach was beautiful and once you have chosen your area, staff bring towels, cold water, and sunscreen. The beach area while we were there had a gentle breeze, which was lovely in the heat. Just behind the beach area, was a large pool, and nothing ever seemed overly crowded. We enjoyed the fire dance show put on at the hotel, and ate dinner one evening at the restaurant there. Breakfast buffet was extensive, you could order off the menu, and enjoy all there was in the buffet area too. Staff brought drinks such as coffees and fresh juices to the table. After breakfast one morning we were given a small bag in the lobby so we could feed the fish. Exceptionally attentive staff. There are golf cart drivers to take one around to the areas in the resort if needed, but it’s not a hard walk anywhere. There are a number of stairs from the lobby down, BUT there is an elevator if needed. The hotel will pick up guests at the airport for a fee, which we did after our late arrival flight. It was so nice to be greeted, and brought to the hotel. A perfect relaxing way to arrive. Hotel is approximately 20 minutes drive +- depending on traffic. We stayed 10 days in Bali, and two other hotels. This would be our #1 choice. Grab transportation picks up from here easily."
