PB hotel design editorial

Directly opposite Gelora Bung Karno, the vast Sukarno-era sports complex that hosted the 1962 Asian Games and remains the most charged civic space in Jakarta, the Fairmont Jakarta rises across 45 floors as part of the mixed-use Senayan development that reshaped the district in the mid-2010s. The tower's cream-toned facade, articulated by a regular grid of deep-set glazing, carries the disciplined commercial grammar typical of large-scale Indonesian developments from this period, but the aerial view reveals something more compelling — a building in genuine conversation with one of Southeast Asia's great modernist monuments, the stadium's illuminated ellipse visible from nearly every west-facing room. Inside, the interiors move between two registers. Guest rooms fitted with dark-stained hardwood floors, leather-upholstered headboards, and carved batik-motif medallions on the walls draw on a broadly pan-Asian luxury vocabulary that the brand deploys with quiet confidence, cushion textiles borrowing ikat geometries and the occasional deep-indigo canvas adding a distinctly Javanese note. Higher up, the rooftop bar deploys vertical timber louvres to filter the city glow, a herringbone parquet floor and cage-pendant lighting giving the space a warm amber register after dark — the Jakarta skyline suspended beyond the full-height glazing in a manner that makes the city feel both immense and, for a moment, entirely manageable. The pool terrace, set at podium level, offers a calmer counterpoint, lined with dark-woven sun loungers and a timber pavilion shading one end.

"We recently visited Fairmont Jakarta for a special family staycation to celebrate my wife’s birthday during the busy post-Lebaran period. It was a stay filled with high points and some learning opportunities for the hotel’s coordination team. Upon arrival, we were kindly informed that the property was at near-full occupancy. While a twin-bed upgrade was available, the front office team noted that our current room had already been prepared with birthday decorations. In the spirit of the celebration, I opted to stay in the original room. However, there seemed to be a slight misunderstanding of our priorities; while the cake and mirror message were lovely, the kids' play tent we had pre-confirmed was unfortunately missing. Had there been more transparency that the full setup (specifically the tent) wasn't ready, we likely would have prioritized the upgraded room for the family. The "hard product" of the Fairmont remains a highlight. Even the entry-level rooms are notably spacious and well-appointed, featuring a relaxing deep-soaking tub and a pleasant partial view of the Senayan Stadium. Our breakfast experience at Spectrum reflected the high holiday demand. There was a brief 5-minute queue, and once seated, the buffet struggled to keep pace with the crowd. Premium items like salmon, sushi, and pastries were often depleted, making it difficult to fully enjoy the usually excellent spread. While my children were happy, my wife found the selection a bit limited due to the slow refills. The stay was warmly concluded with a generous 2 PM late checkout. I would like to extend a special thank you to Ms. Sherryra for her incredibly thoughtful parting gift—a framed caricature portrait of my wife. It was a truly unique and personalized gesture that we will cherish. While there is some room for more seamless coordination during peak periods, the staff’s genuine hospitality was evident. We look forward to a more consistent experience on our next visit."

"For this trip we tried Fairmont Jakarta for the first time with a short 2-night stay. We were upgraded proactively as Accor Diamond to a suite. While I appreciated the suite upgrade, it was possibly the weaker point of our stay: this suite was a bit boring, dark, and only one toilet despite being spacious. It was functional but I did not like it much especially not in a city shock full of great luxury hotel. The strong point of the hotel is by far the Gold lounge. It was super quiet, stylish, and fantastic service. For happy hour we could choose between the roof top bar (drinks only) or the lounge (food and drinks) and for breakfast we could choose between the restaurant or the lounge. So we could get variety of venues even if the stay had been long. As an example of good service in the lounge, I asked for spicy sauce in the lounge during breakfast. When I make such a request, 99% of hotels bring, unsurprisingly, spicy sauce. But here they brought 4 kinds which was thoughtful. They frequently anticipated our needs or tried to go above and beyond. I would be happy returning to this hotel and would recommend it particularly if booking a Gold room."
