PB hotel design editorial

At the heart of Jakarta's Mega Kuningan business district, where glass towers crowd the skyline above the city's most concentrated cluster of embassies and corporate headquarters, a low-rise neoclassical podium with arched colonnades and a terraced roofscape makes an unexpectedly grounded gesture amid all that vertical ambition. The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Mega Kuningan was developed as part of the broader Mega Kuningan mixed-use precinct and holds 359 rooms across its tower floors, its exterior massing visible in the aerial image as a mid-rise anchor against the taller residential and office structures behind it. The interiors navigate a deliberate conversation between international business-hotel precision and quieter Indonesian inflections. Guest rooms are finished in warm-toned engineered timber flooring, fabric-upholstered wall panels in pale grey, and dark walnut joinery — furniture kept spare and clean-lined, with brass pendant hardware adding a discreet warmth. The suite category introduces hand-painted chinoiserie-style wallcoverings depicting flowering branches and songbirds, framed within teak louvred panels, grounding the room in a Southeast Asian material register without resorting to the obvious. The all-day dining space counters that restraint with something more theatrical: semicircular tufted tan leather banquettes arranged across a boldly patterned burgundy carpet, the ceiling articulated with dark metal grille screens in a geometric lattice. The outdoor pool, set within a tropical garden of palm and frangipani, is edged in rough-cut stone fountains and lit at dusk in a deep cobalt that gives the whole terrace the atmosphere of a resort transplanted into the city.

"We stayed at the Ritz Carlton on a stopover on our way back to Australia. We were picked up at the airport and it took about 45 minutes to arrive at the hotel. It was a very impressive experience. The lobby is enormous and the staff are extremely welcoming. Our room on the 10th floor was very spacious and comfortable, the shower and bathroom were fabulous. There was a welcome gift of fruit and petit four waiting for us. We were so tired we didn’t leave the hotel at all. The breakfast room was enormous and had the most amazing selection we’ve ever seen. We also chose to have lunch at the hotel and just relaxed. We arranged a late checkout and headed straight to the airport. We were so pleased with our choice of hotel and would definitely recommend."

"I dined at the Asian restaurant at The Ritz-Carlton. Considering the reputation of a 5-star international hotel, I was unfortunately disappointed with the level of service provided. The staff addressed guests in an overly informal manner by using ‘aku,’ which felt inappropriate for a luxury hospitality setting. I apologize if this is part of the operational culture, but personally, I found it somewhat impolite. In addition, there was no warm greeting or smile from the waiters upon arrival. What disappointed me the most was the lack of basic courtesy after finishing my meal. Despite seeing me pass by, none of the staff acknowledged me or said “thank you.” For a hotel with such an established international reputation, this was quite surprising. Luxury hospitality is not only about the food or the building, but also about professionalism and guest experience. I hope the F&B team takes this feedback seriously. That being said, I would like to sincerely appreciate the front office and security teams, who were consistently friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout my visit. Good job front office team!"

"Kak Rivi & kak Nailla were really kind and friendly. They took initiative to help me while I prepare my company banner before the event starts! They also asked to prepare me and team this healthy breakfast (as I attached here) while I was hectic and not even have a time to think about my breakfast. Their service is not only great, but so lovely and personal 🥰 thank you kaka2, may you both always be blessed and healthy. God bless your sincere heart and excellent service 💙"
